What are your thoughts? Would you get one? If you want to find out more about the specs, frame rates, bit rates, codecs etc I've got them all up on the blog here: www.matjoez.com/2020/01/07/hands-on-with-the-canon-1dxmkiii/
one day ill get a 1d series camera :)
Freaking 12k kangaroo dollars, no way gonna buy one unless I won lotto
I bought one in 2021. I don’t use all that fancy stuff like joystick etc.. to move around focus etc.. I still have my old film habits from the olden times. Center and recompose etc.. one shot lol. But love the robust tough body, instant focus, 20mp sensor with amazing low noise/14ev dynamic range at 100. 20mp is more than enough, way higher than Tech Pan at this point.
Thanks for the insight and taking the time to give us your thoughts! Very interesting features in there... very keen to test it.
I'm SO glad they've boasted this with amazing features because it bodes well for the next line of EOS R cameras which hopefully will now have 4k no crop with 10-bit internal without affecting sales of this 1DX3. Cannot wait!

Stranger in the background: Ahh-hhhhhhhhh!
Capoeira! 🇧🇷! Can't wait to see your timelapses with the new 📷.
Love me some capoeira! I used to do it when I was younger
@@MatthewVandeputte Cool. Same here.
how the fire down under man? hope everything's ok now. happy new year! and i kew you were one of the first to have a test on this new camera..
fires are still burning everywhere
Just a nice straight forward review. Can't wait to get it! Used the 1dx mkii from 2016 and loved it! pre ordered this one right away! Do hoop canon updates it with timelapse mode.
| Do hoop canon updates it with timelapse mode.
Did they?
Did Canon just call us pro’s using 5D series camera’s ‘advanced amateurs’? 😂
In other words. Please shell out 7K$ for this camera or stay an amateur pleb.
I was also confused by that frame!
thank god i'm not an entry user with 6m2 and 80d, but its close!
I like ur review, simply , straight, clear . thanks for sharing
Thank you!
@4:12 - vertical exposure meter on the side for video mode. That sucks and is in the way.
Excellent thanks buddy
looks like an absolute beast! not sure if i've got the budget for it though but i'm sure it'll turn a few heads
Big beast for sure! Definitely keen to find out the price point asap.
@@MatthewVandeputte it starts at $6,499 USD
i knew you would have a tester :) good stuff mate, well done
Cheers mate!
So tempted in pre ordering the Canon 1DX mkiii but I love the Nikon skin tones and color science and touch screen. Will the Nikon d6 blow our minds and make me purchase their dslr camera?! I’m so excited yet nervous .
Question: Couldn't the Smart Controller inadvertently move your focus point when you use back button focus?
Mathew, off the wall question. Using a7riii should I turn off in camera lens correction when doing Star Trails with Star Stax? Thought you might know.
my anxiety about that camera sitting on the window cill, damn.
looks like a big step up from the MarkII, the only thing I would have liked is if they made an adapter cage for use with CFast Cards as well, like Nikon has done, I am all for moving up in technology, but I know a lot of people who invested heavily in CFast and if it meant a slight drop in a feature to use them I would be all for it, especially for a still photographer where realistically CF is still fine.
WOWZERS
Think you'll be getting one??
I have a question. Can you make a photo time lapse with an app on your phone?
That was the most sabotaged monologue I ve seen. Trooper that you talked through the screaming, bald guys and animals sounds lol
those kids screaming had me turning my head left and right🥵😂
I am still a bit confused with the DPAF :D So there is DPAF in 4K60 with no crop but not even a contrast AF in 5.5K RAW both in 30 and 60p? Is there DPAF at FHD120?
Planespotting HAJ I believe there is DPAF in 4K 60 Cropped, but not in 4K non cropped or RAW 5.5K
Does it support sedn selective pictures via wifi FAST to the laptop? (for sports photography)
Sending all rated/locked pictures in a quick batch would be great. Also curious about editing options in-camera. And the new ability to embed metadata on the card for IPTC.
Yea Matt!
churr bro
Strange you search for Canon EOS 1 DX Mark 3 all you find is stuff from people back a year ago! Feels like people got to use it and then they just moved on to other cameras. Was looking for find what people are feeling after the firmware updates. Need an updated video...
What is the dynamic range on it?
Is there AF shooting at 5k in video modes? I've heard there isn't, which seem a bit strange.
There's no AF for the 5.5K RAW shooting unfortunately!
@@MatthewVandeputte I suppose they need to protect the C range though and if you are a real pro requiring 5.5k raw video, you'll use a dedicated film camera anyway. Thanks for the video though!
I'm all the way into SONY but I subscribed!
Appreciate that! Whichever tool does the job!
Does the 120 1080 have autofocus and capture audio?
who want audio in 120
I want one cause I'll be using it in the dark/low light during parties.
No autofocus on 4k 60p ? Does 1DX mk ii has AF enabled for 4k 60p?
Dion Siswadi that’s just the RAW 4k60
They have DPAF on 4K 60 (Cropped) - The exact same as the 1DX II
That sounddddd
Duuuuude.
Nice.
Agreed, hah.
I am somewhat disappointed by the 20.1mp, but otherwise I'm impressed. Looking forward to seeing more of the high ISO images and autofocus.
ayeeee
Sup dude! You getting one??
Great to hear your thoughts mate. Don't think I will be selling my 1DXmkii any time soon though. My guess is close to $10K RRP especially with the dollar as it is
Yeah the dollar isn't favourable at all. That being said it's cheaper than I thought!
I have the same disappointments as you too. Such a shame there is no improvement to resolution. Its the big thing that keeps me using the 5D4
@@MatthewVandeputte just saw Sun studios have it priced at $12099 !!!! WOW! Definitely won't be getting one! Haha
@@societyphotography8668 oh damn that is too bad!!
I’m a Sony guy but your break down is selling me big time
Cheers my man!
Some are comparing the 5D to the 1DX series in the comments. I do have the MK4 and the MKII and find it amusing when 5D owners who have never owned the 1DX, or have ever processed the Raw data are so quick to defend the 5D as an equal. Dynamic range, noise, focus accuracy and speed are all Superior with the 1DX series, and it becomes immediately apparent in tough situations like motorsports. It is the flagship for a reason. I will have the new MKIII next week, keep the MKII and probably say by by to the 5D MK4. Not because its a bad camera, but more like its a Mustang compared to a Ferrari.
Only thing I want is Cinemascope crop mark.
6.5k gbp, ridiculous money, but kinda worth it, for video it makes you consider a red when it’s that much
$6,500 US I hear. That's almost $10,000 AUD. At that price I personally think there's better options. How do you compare it the the Panasonic S1H?
Yep, Ted's have it on pre-sale for AUD$9999.95. No frickin way.
@@kriseriksen4737 🤣🤣🤣🤣
all 1d-series canon were that price. my old 2007 1ds mark 3 was already that price, maybe bit more. And there is no better options with that speed, construction, reliability and lens line up.
My SL2 has timelaps! 🤔🤔🤔
In his presentation it says that the 5D series is for advanced amateurs. Guess that makes me an amateur then lol
Embarassing. Pictures from the 5D series have probably won more awards for professional photo journalism than any other camera series in the digital age. Mark II and III are still widely used among pros.
So whats an amateur that uses a 1dx mark III 😂
Matt how much$%%???
Nikon Z6 Has RAW video
6:31 but Peter McKinnon is using it for Vlogs😂🤦🏽♂️
And here I shoot the 1dx mark III in single shot mode lol.
Given the current fire situation down under (and your accent) I cant help but feel bad about the foreshadowing seen here in this intro... Can we all as photographers do something to contribute to help out aside from offer to capture whats happening? Truly. #AustraliaNeedsHelp
I've donated a bunch, and have asked my followers to do the same!
@@MatthewVandeputte Good on ya brother! Loved the review btw! Reading back I hope I didn't come off obtuse, was not intended if I did!
I want but i cant 😂😂
Canon using brazilian capoeira in event......🤔🤔🤔🤔
ummmm yeah pro for sure at $6500.00 i'll just take your word for it and stick with my prosumer rig lol
First comment 🙌🏻🙌🏻
That was REALLY quick
It was super fast! Just by chance I was on RUclips and had the notification! #notificationsquad excited to see more from the 1DX iii
Ooooooo
Not bad is it?
You can trust Nikon for their real life colors
And Canon?
@@MatthewVandeputte my default
"CaNoN cAnT iNnOvAtE" - morons.
I'm keen to see so much of this trickle down to the prosumer market. If even a tiny fraction of it comes down to the 5D/R ranges, the next series looks pretty impressive.
I'm very curious to see what they'll put in their pro mirrorless version!
@@MatthewVandeputte Absolutely, there's definitely interesting times ahead for Canon. Admittedly for some it's probably too little, too late (looking at those who've jumped to the big S), but a lot of what else is in the market hasn't really grown at the meteoric pace it did at the start of last decade. This starts to make things interesting.
Do you think you'll get a chance to do a hands on and test the aspects you talked about, like DR and low light once this body goes into the wild?
20MP??? No reason to upgrade from my 1DXii. I am disappointed.
No ibis? No RF support? Waste of money. This camera already obsolete
Have you tried the electronic image stabiliser? At least it's something!
Matthew Vandeputte it’s a joke
It’s pretty clear this will not stand the test of time. Compared to Sony, within two years this will be laughable.....again very sad that there is such little innovation and forward thinking from a flagship.
Please expand!
@@MatthewVandeputte why would you choose this over a specialized video camera? Yet all the major updates are for video. People are already switching to an EOSR with an Atmos if they want a portable hand holdable camera at less than 1/3 the price and half the weight. (I know of 3 people who did exactly that and sold their 1DX’s) There is nothing you can do with a Mark III that you can’t already do photographic wise with the II. Plus the oil issue with the II was terrible no word on a fix for that with this model. No animal eye AF. Mirrorless will make the point of buying it even worse. ( unless you need a harsh condition camera). Corporate and pro com companies will buy them but will be either due to tax, existing lenses, old bodies etc etc. Nothing in this model is game changing that isn’t already available or somewhat solveable. The Mark II has aged badly over the last year and a half. Why do you think so many pros are switching to Sony for mirrorless or future tech. If I was you I would stick with the II and seriously consider instead saving for the next gen mirrorless.
What garbage. Canon can't innovate with their software AGAIN. NO TIMELAPSE MODE? And 20MP in 2020...what the ****. Hopefully Sony eats Canon's lunch yet AGAIN in the professional market like they did with the A7 in the prosumer.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Besides the pixels, what else do you think could have been improved?
