  • Welcome to an Omega Seamaster extravaganza! We'll take a look at the new Seamaster 300m for the Beijing 2022 Olympics special edition (ref. 522.30.42.20.03.001) and compare it to the classics as we explore the history of the Seamaster in 5 watches.
We'll examine the allure of James Bond with the quintessential Pierce Brosnan-era 300m Professional (ref. 2531.80.00) from the 1990s. And we'll also check out the fascinating World War 2 history that made the Seamaster the watch it is today, with the famous "Spitfire" pilot watch (ref. CK2292) and a rare 1960s Seamaster (ref. 165.024) from the golden age of their military divers.
I also compare my pre-1957 trilogy gold, dressy Seamaster with the latest Planet Ocean 39mm (ref. 215.30.40.20.01.001) to delve deep into Omega's illustrious story and prestigious watchmaking achievements, in addition to its cultural impact, record-breaking deep sea explorations, amazing moments in cinematic history, and design evolution. Join me for a deep dive into the masters of the seas and my personal watch collecting journey.

Watching this channel 6 or so years ago definitely shaped my love of the Seamaster. Early SMPs were attainable to a broke college kid, where as a Rolex was, and still is out of reach. I have no regrets about getting a midsize SMPc. I love that they're still holding to the ideas (city, sea, country) that defined it in the 50s while letting the design evolve.

Another out of the radar Omega Seamaster that no one talks about is the Omega Seamaster Exclusive New York Limited Edition. They only made 399. It’s a retro 1940’s ….50’s feel and it’s a NY honor. You can only acquire this watch at retail in the NY City Omega or Short Hills NJ Boutiques. It’s really a classic piece.

My first luxury watch was a bond seamaster thanks to you. If I had to live off one watch line for the rest of my life it would be the seamaster.
My favourite seamaster is my first generation planet Ocean in 42mm. But my favourite era of seamaster is definitely the 60's with that second generation diver and all those classy dress watches.

About this time last year after much research, I bought the 43.5mm Planet Ocean as a retirement present to myself. It was my first automatic/luxury watch. It is everything I wanted in a watch. If I had to do it again I would buy the exact same watch. No regrets. Thanks TGV for helping me make my decision.

Wow, bravo. Your love of watches always shines through in your videos. As someone who just bought their first Omega, I found this video to be especially interesting because it was like taking a journey back in time with the brand. And after a year of challenges, seeing all the challenges the Omega brand endured makes me like it even more because it has had to fight and adapt to a changing world. It makes the pride of owning a watch with such heritage just a little more special and as I sit here looking at my 300, I wonder whose hands it will be in (not mine, I would imagine as that would put me close to 100) in another 50 years, and what challenges the company and the world will have faced in that time.
Thanks for doing what you do.

I’m loving these lineage videos you are doing lately! I am the proud, original owner of a 1997 Seamaster. I remember thinking when I bought it back then, “ wow, this watch is monstrous in size!” 🤣😂 I recently was given my deceased father-in-law‘s 1952 Seamaster with automatic bumper movement. I’m so happy to have the pair of them to show how they changed over time, and I love both of them for what they offer and how they make me feel. I’ve been saying it for 25 years now....anybody that is into watches needs to have an Omega in their collection.

Personally I feel like the aqua terra is more like a modern railmaster, and I wish they had released it as a railmaster as it is so different from dive seamasters. I think the original dressy seamaster line is actually carried on by the de ville line, especially the tresor.

Absolutely wonderful episode, TGV. To see such passion and excitement about the pieces, as well as learn so much about the collection is intoxicatingly enjoyable. Cannot thank you enough, my friend.
The way that you worked each piece into this video as they were acquired along your collecting journey as opposed to chronological production was masterful and very personal.
It seems you find a great deal of your horological inspiration from cinematic adventures. It is good to know I am not alone in this😜😎 For some reason, although Craig is not my favorite Bond, the Spectre 300 is probably my favorite Seamaster. That or the Brosnan....just due to Brosnan being the Bond I grew up with.
This episode was truly special. Stupendously well done.... you have been put doing yourself lately, but this raises the bar to another level!
Onward and upward, my friend. Thank you very much.

I too fell in love with the seamaster after watching golden eye. In the summer of 1997 i was in the Bahamas (young and with a young lady) and would look in the various watch stores as we travelled about but no one had the watch, they were selling fast. Finally in Jamaica i walked into a store that had the watch but with the white dial and not the iconic blue. Upon wearing the watch and feeling the heaviness and how great it looked on my wrist along with It being my first automatic watch i had to have it (paid $1100, wish I could buy one today for that price) and still have it today but regret not waiting and getting it in blue. I never wear it anymore and it sits in the safe. Your channel is so great as I have learned so much from you, your a plethora of information, your strap changes have even inspired me and i have ordered a new strap for it. Also, i am contemplating changing the bezel face to blue to offset the white face to try and modernize the watch a bit or frankenize it as you say. Hopefully i will put it in my watch rotation again and fall in love all over. Keep up the great work!!

  • @robhaley802

Fantastic video! My first Seamaster was the 90’s bond automatic. I bought it in college. That was the first watch that I really had to make sacrifices for and I wore it for many years. I eventually sold that watch and I regret it to this day. I now have the glossy dial ceramic and yes it is a slightly better watch than the 90’s bond, but I do still have a soft spot for those. I’ve owned many watches that I love but the Seamaster will always hold a very special place in my heart. When I wear mine it brings back all of the memories that I have from wearing it over the years. It’s a perfect one watch as well. You can wear it on the bracelet, leather, nato, rubber, it doesn’t matter. I’ve also always preferred it to the submariner as well. Wear the Seamaster’s in good health guys!

A great introduction into the history of Omegas lurch into dive watches, I love the Seamaster from Omega. I have an old titanium Aqua Terra GMT asymmetric case super clean white dial that is definitely a keeper. I've also have older 7753 based modified co-axial chronographs with date at 6. Also a later 9900 based version with the ceramic wave dial where the light play is almost surreal. From the latest releases the great white is the one that grabs the top spot. The Olympic 2020 white dial with the blue bezel may have the edge but I've not seen in in the flesh.

Thank you TGV for this great episode that gave me a lot of insight into Omega and Seamaster line history. Your passion shines through as always. It was a great pleasure watching this particular episode because Omega is also very close to my heart.
As regards Seamaster models that I would get today, they would have to be 3 different ones: contemporary Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra and vintage 1950’s dressy solid gold Seamaster, all 3 being so different that they would almost form the perfect 3 watch collection: dressy 1950’s Seamaster, weekend / adventure Planet Ocean 39,5mm and a perfect everyday watch that is Aqua Terra 38mm. I’d love to have such a collection and hopefully one day I will.
Just small remark with regards to the video: Omega wasn’t actually bought or taken over by the Swatch Group in 1998. That was the year when Swatch Group was renamed as such from the earlier SMH (Société de Microélectronique et d'Horlogerie) but Omega had been part of the group since 1930 when it originally merged with Tissot and two years later got also joined by Lemania. The group was initially named SSIH (Société Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogère) but looking at its history one can argue that it’s the same group that later became the Swatch Group.
    Best regards

My favorite Seamaster is my Seamaster, a mid-1990's 300M midsize, black dial. I held both the blue "Bond' model and the black one in my hands (and on my wrists) and opted for the black one. I just like the heritage and style better. Good vid. Keep at it!

Great channel! My dad had a ‘57 silver tone Seamaster, like your gold. I inherited the watch in the late ‘70s. I gave it to my brother, and sadly believe it was sold. I have been searching for another ever since. The heritage city version is appealing, and your comments on the Olympic, the 300, and Planet Ocean, have me rethinking it. Btw thanks for the reviews of the Dan Henry and Yema’s. My Gran Tourismo and Rallye Mario should be hear this week. As for the update on top Chronos under 5, was happy to see the Citizen A-T Skyhawk made the cut viz a vi your friend. That one arrives tomorrow, but had been eying for a year and bought ahead of the review. Yep, 3 in a week. Time to put the brakes on! I’ll have to save up for the next one, undoubtedly an Omega.

I've recently acquired a Seamaster 300 233.30.41.21.01.001 I'm in love with it. But Planet Ocean 42mm orange and an old 60' Seamaster (not the scuba one) are still in my collection. Compliment for your italian and keep up the good job. Urban Gentry it's my favourite watch channel

The Seamaster is what my grandfather, uncles and father wore proudly to celebrate momentous achievements in their lives and what started my journey to collect the now vintage models that they owned. If I could afford to purchase a brand new Seamaster, it would be the new No Time To Die model.

Great content as always! I've been really itching for a vintage Seamaster 30 with a sub second dial for a while now, I just love the simplicity but I've also got the 2019 Seamaster 300 Sedna Gold and Speedmaster Prof Moonwatch on my list too. I've never owned an Omega before and I think that's my next addition :) I've only really been into watches for around 3 years so still a long way to go!

wonderful history. thanks for sharing your seamaster journey. a few years ago i was looking at vintage seamasters, i liked the 60s ones with the crosshair dial, the cosmic? later 70s ones start to get to cushion case for me. in the end i was put off by maintenance costs, reliability, water resistance, and the lack of knowledge about the brand and i was worried about fakes, so i opted for new not vintage, also at the time i couldn't imagine spending that much money on a watch. oh boy little did i know. i did end up with a 2nd and then 3rd generation of the lorier neptune which does ape the omega seamaster arrow handset a bit. i also bought an early 1960s 34mm Rotary watch that is a little bit similar to the style of those omegas, simple dial with arabic numeral at 12 and 6, bit of patina on the dial, very charming. i am trying to parr down my collection and keep it bare bones, but it the future i could see myself getting an older fortis flieger or revisiting omega. i've always loved the american art deco watches too though. definitely want to revisit them at a later date. love the videos keep it up!

Hey my good friend thank you so much for sharing your wonderful Omega collection with us. The Seamaster is a watch near & very dear to my heart. When I was 23’ I went into Ben Bridge Jeweler to purchase my first new Omega Seamaster 007 after saving $3500 to buy it. After the recent redesign of the wave dial in 18’ I decided to pull the trigger on a blue co axial master chronometer. My original seamaster has never been serviced & has run flawlessly. The Orange Planet Ocean is a watch I still have my eye on. Note I also own a Rolex Explorer II, Tissot PRS516. Most hilarious aspect of ownership is that the only watch I get regularly compliments on it the Tissot haha. Thanks again & I seems to be rambling much!

The blue 2018 SMP 300 is my favorite. The way the laser etched waves play in different light is spectacular. It is both dressy and a functional tool watch.

    Hi TGV!
For me, it's the often overlooked Seamaster Railmaster. Only the time. Brushed case. No bells and whistles. Perfect for everyday wear.
    Best regards,

Superb Seamaster video. I am seriously considering adding a Diver 300M (white face with rubber strap) to my collection. I tried one on at my local AD last week and I've never had a watch on my wrist that I enjoyed more than the "Great White". Keep up the great work!

I'm in love with the new 300. The sandwich dial and the lollypop transformed the watch, the devil is truly in the details. Its elegant, sophisticated and understated. Whether its true love and almost grail like status or a mere crush like the Railmaster is yet to be seen, I guess only time will tell ...
As for the SMP, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I remember seeing giant posters of the SMP at all the mall when I was a kid, I was in complete awe of that wave dial and scalped bezel, it was unique and different from everything else. It wasn't love at first sight, but it gradually grew on me over time, I used to visit that mall every other Thursday and eventually stare at the posters when I walk past the watch shops, that was years before I watched my first Pierce Brosnan Bond movie. I began to shy away from the SMP in the era of the glossy plain dial and the Bond special editions. The 007 dial is just ... eeewww. The 2018 refresh of the Seamaster rekindled the flame. A powerhouse of a movement & a cleaner contemporary take on the wave dial. I still don't like the HEV.
In a perfect world I would have both the 300 & SMP in my collection. One would be my steel watch and the other is the NATO monster ... Sadly, in the real world I'm a long way from either one & may have to go the Pagani Design route to scratch that itch, it'll serve as a motivation to push harder and aim for the real deal.
I'm somewhat indifferent about the Aqua Terra and Planet Ocean. The AT is somewhat growing on me lately, perhaps its due to my newfound appreciation for sports watchs.
    Excellent work as always, TGV.
