For a small, light rangefinder style camera, consider the Panasonic GX85, or GX9.

A couple of years ago I went to the store to buy the X100V and found a used Sony a6500 for $750 instead. I didn't think they would be sold out 2 years later 😄. I think the film simulations that are captured "in-camera" are so wonderful on these fuji cameras and they don't look over the top like most pre-sets. Fuji has created a demand with this little beast.

Fuji X30 is one of the best cameras i have ever bought. I'm not a fan of a fixed lens camera so I avoided Fuji for a while until I unearthed the gem that is the X30. Small but still so capable and not even that slow considering its age. I take it to gigs to take photographs and have never been stopped by security and I'm able to to get good quality prints afterwards too. Haven't travelled with it yet but I can only assume it's brilliant for everything.

The one thing that I love about the Fuji X100v is the one thing you guys didn’t mention. And that’s the leaf shutter lens, none of the other cameras have a leaf shutter lens and I love shooting with one, I don’t have to worry about high speed sync, and I don’t always like carry my medium format equipment. The only drawback is the fixed focal length, but the converter that gives you a 50 mm equivalent works great with no loss of image quality. I gotta say I’m right there with you guys. I love that camera. Keep up the good work.

Great video ... BUT ... I would 100% recommend the Fujifilm X-T30ii over the X-T3. It is smaller and has the same auto focus as the X-T4 which is much quicker than the X-T3. I am uploading as we speak on my channel a quick review of the Fujifilm X-T30ii. I even show it with a pancake lens which makes it the same size as the X100V. Cheers 🍻.

I am a Nikon shooter, I mainly do wildlife and nature, but I also have a love for black and white photography. I wanted a retro styled camera for my black and white and film simulation, so I did look at the Fujifilm and Olympus cameras. I decided against the Olympus on the basis of the micro 4/3rds sensors and low light performance. I looked at the Fuji cameras too, and whilst they were very tempting, I was pleased they had the Zfc Black edition as an offering and for a bit less than the X-T5. It was perfect for me. It allowed me to do a different style of photography whilst sticking with a brand I know. I was a bit bummed when they announced the Zf full frame version like 2 months after I bought it but it is 3x the price and APS--C is still a great option. Only gripes I have with it are that it does air on the side feeling a bit plasticy, but the images speak for themselves. If I didn't have any cameras and I was getting into photography, the Zfc is a great choice, But I would seriously consider the Fujifilm option.

Excellent video as always. The options are well explained, and I would like to add in a personal opinion. I owned the RX100M2 and enjoyed it. Crazy portable and easy to use full manual. The newer ones with great autofocus and a viewfinder would be a great improvement. But I found the camera TOO small for my hands. And the image quality, while acceptable, pales in comparison to the Fuji cameras. Distortion, colors, and sharpness, are all a level lower which is fine but not good enough after owning the Fuji cameras. However, I did get some great images with the camera until I sold it for the X-T20 (still too small to hold comfortably, I have XL mitts).

It is relevant to point out that the X100 series uses a leaf shutter, and that could be the main feature for which some people are getting it. You can sync your flash up to 1/4000 with any flash. None of the other cameras presented can, only older X100 models

The only thing that makes the X100s truly irreplaceable is the combination of the leaf shutter, built-in flash and integrated ND filter. If someone doesn't understand why that's important, or what they would do with it, they should probably get another camera.

The XS10 suggestion is absolutely solid. Love the flexibility and IBIS. Have used one for 2 years and takes great photos with whatever lens you like. I find the control options to easy to manipulate with my eye on the viewfinder. For beginners you have the option to preset 4- custom settings you love to incorporate film simulation, etc. and you are good to go in the field without worrying about setting adjustments if you want to keep the shooting experience easy and fun.
The grip while not retro in its looks is very comfortable and makes carrying and holding the camera superior ( IMO) . Still a very light and compact camera at a price point new under $1000 and of course used too.
I been shooting since 1972 and have owned quite a few cameras starting with the Nikon Nikkormat EL.
I any event while other Fuji cameras look so beautiful and reminds you of days gone buy in camera style the XS10 delivers a higher level of flexibility and a Amerasian beginners can grow into. Thanks for the review.

I think the Ricoh GrIII and GRIIIx are good alternatives. Although they are becoming hard to find as well. I just picked a grIII up and I am loving it as a throw in my pocket and go camera. Has all the manual modes like a larger camera but its tiny! Has similar specs as the x100v. The grIII is great too if you like 28mm over the 35mm. I think the only other good compact camera similar with a 28mm is the leica Q and Q2 and they are much more money. The only thing I am not a fan of are lack of viewfinder and the battery life is terrible. but batteries are cheep and I put my leica 28mm finder on it and turn the Snap focus on (basically a system for zone focus) . then turn the back screen off and its like a quick point and shoot.

My x100f is neat and love using it as I walk about downtown and events. It compliments my xt3 and xt5. Yes I am a big Fuji Fan😳

I've had my X100F since 2017, it is still my ride along companion for any time I just wanted to stash a camera in my pocket or compliment my kit. I recently added the glimmerglass 1 filter and it's become quite exciting.

Fuji X-A, X-E, and X-100 series have some great features and lower prices too!

Just be patient and wait for a new x100 release and watch the x100v prices tumble. The V is a good camera but the RRP was on the high side to begin with, you’d be nuts to pay above that.

Given how many X100V are for sale on the secondary market, I wonder how much of the issue is Fuji can't keep up with demand and how much of the issue is just artificial demand from flippers.

Tony/Chelsea...thanks for this video. I've had the X100V on my radar and have frankly given up. It is my understanding that the pics coming straight out of camera are somewhat comparable to a Leica. Is this the case or am I thinking something different? Are any of the other cameras you suggested have a similar experience coming straight out of camera? (primarily a Nikon shooter)

All Fuji cameras have pics straight out of camera that have the vintage look comparable to Leica with their film simulations. Get the XH1 model which is cheap now($700) and in-body stabilization, weather sealed too.

I couldnt get the Fuji due to unavailability and opted to save several hundred pounds buying the Lumix LX100ii and have not been disappointed once i took the time to set the menus up to my liking.

Surely the fujifilm xe series is the most comparable. Apart from the optical viewfinder.

Like others have said, the Pen-F is actually better looking (IMO), and is probably quite inexpensive in the used market. Mine is still a joy to use after 7 years, although it _is_ getting long in the tooth, tech-wise.
