    For using the lathe for the first time, this was a very difficult part and you made a very good job.

      But you are ultimate my mechanics. Please upload a bigger project like this. My personal request for you is to build a laptop body. I know you can do it.

    interesting, it reminds me of my first job.I live in Brescia, an industrial city of northern Italy and my first 5 years in the world of work,I understand your passion.I passed them working in a mechanical workshop that still revises today, machine tools of all kinds. more than a job, it's an art. I saw scrap going in and getting out of jewels. Congratulations for your work. I'm arranging a small lathe. It will take some time. Good job.

    Love seeing restorations of precision machinery using other precision machinery to do it! Also, glad you moved your cutting tool to the chuck-side of your tool post. I was waiting to see a crash.

    WOW, and you say, it was you first on a lathe?, the way you machine seems like you were born with a Micrometer in your mouth. You’re a natural.

    • @AlessGonzalez
      @AlessGonzalez  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you very much eddie. It was more work than it seems in the video.

    • @eddietowers5595
      @eddietowers5595 5 лет назад

      Oh, I can understand how much goes on behind the scenes, though it’s a very good video, it still doesn’t show how much time and force you put into it because it can be the simplest of screws being removed, or the broken thread, in the wrong place, then you find out...you may have the tools for it. But, in the end, you find, it was all worth it. Because that is what machining is, a tool to make the tools, to make that tool. Good luck, I know it’s going to come out great!

    Pro tip #304 When "trueing up" or turning a small, "true spot" (meaning you made it round) on a long part in a lathe, (because it needs to be run with a steady rest), cut the "true spot" on the part up as close to the chuck as possible. The closer to the chuck you are with the cut, the more rigidity the part will have, and the less likely it will be that you will knock the part out of 'round' (or 'indication') when cutting it. Knocking the part out of indication could result in the part suddenly being pulled out of the chuck and sent flying God-only-knows-where, and may require a change of underwear at the very least. So, to recap, turn a true spot for the steady rest as close to the chuck as possible, once you have it cut, stop, take the part out of the chuck, flip it around so that the true spot is out on the long end, set up your steady rest, and carry on, safely.

    Really well done! This will be a great machine to have around the shop when you complete the restoration. Can you tell me which paint/color you are using? The color is as close to the original paint on my Powermatic Millrite vertical mill that I've seen. Thanks for the great videos!

    If I were you I would have center drilled it before putting the steady rest on. It can be really dangerous when the piece flies out from the tool pressure. Especially because three jaw Chuck's don't grip the work very well at all. Just a bit of friendly advice that's all.

    Bon travail
    Mais une vidéo entière pour nous montrer l'usinage et le tournage d'une seule pièce c'est trop. Prends copie sur ce que font les autres restaurateurs en utilisant le timelaps car pour cette fois ci ça va mais si il te faut une vidéo par piece ça risque de faire long à suivre.
    bon courage
