    Ajira was always my favorite Morrowind NPC. Mages guilds has always been my first step because i love the magic system in that game so much, and Ajira's quests reminded me of working with my classmates in university, and i liked to think of her as my character's only true friend when finished my first playthrough.

    • @ilari90
      @ilari90 7 месяцев назад +1

      Wishing for Ajira Companion mod, I have always wanted to take her with me to go through the mages guild quest line together, rising in ranks and uncovering the mysteries of the dwemer.

      @peregrination3643 5 месяцев назад +1

      I like her a lot in part for the trouble we can get into together (I sell her many things non-Khajiit don't buy, and I do her mage shananigans), but also I like to prolong my "zero to hero" process by starting as a character who doesn't set out to be an adventurer and instead has a day job as a botanist. Ajira and one quest giver in the Cult are perfect. But living out of the Balmora Mages Guild is ideal, so Ajira always ends up feeling like a proper friend.

    it has to be Gentleman Jim Stacey
    he is such a great leader for thr thieves guild, guiding it in their war against other factions
    also, it is cool that, him being a Redguard, and a gentlemen, dressed in fine clothes, you'd expect him to duel you with a rapier, but when push comes to shove, he pulls out that daedric blade and stops being so gentlemanly

  • @HateMachinist

    Ty for mentioning Baladas, because he is the most under-appreciated character in the game by far. It was he who accidentally pulled a lever when he explored a Dwemer ruin in his youth, accidentally awakening every single Dwemer automaton which had previously laid dormant across the entire continent.
    But I do think that Divayth Fyr and some other telvanni eccentrics should have made the list. Divayth Fyr is older than the tribunal itself by well over 200 years.
    It is also a well kept secret that if you get turned into a vampire in the game, you will automatically join whichever one of the three clans the vampire who bit you belonged to. The clan leaders have a bit of interesting dialogue, though I wish there were more quests and lore in those lines.
    Some other interesting NPC's include creeper, which is broadly theorized to be Baladas -a shapeshifted aspect of Clavicus Vile, Maiq the Liar shows up on a rock in sheograd region, a stranger which may be Uriel Septim in disguise shows up at ghostgate in one quest, and I can go on.
    Dagoth Ur deserve full vid-essays deconstructing his motivations all on his own.

    • @boreanknight
      @boreanknight  6 месяцев назад +3

      I didn't know that about Baladas! Is it from ESO? I'll make another list soon, it's been long overdue, with more prominent NPCs. Thanks for great suggestions!

    • @HateMachinist
      @HateMachinist 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@boreanknight Baladas mentions the lever when you fulfil "the disappearance of the dwarves" quest-line, i think. There is alot of unique dialogue with him, so it is easy to miss.
      I made a typo though; I meant to write Barbas- the talking dog which shows up in Skyrim -is theorized to be Creeper the Scamp-merchant.

    • @boreanknight
      @boreanknight  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@HateMachinist Yep Barbas is Creeper, I talked about him in Ghorak mystery video (I plan to redo it and expand, it was my first Morrowind analysis video). Divayth Fyr and Dagoth Ur deserve their own full video essays (I'd love to cover Dagoth Ur soon), and vampires of Morrowind are still a mystery to me, I never played their questlines! But I'd love to research it, because I love horror elements in TES, and I made a video on Morthal and Movarth the master vampire, a while ago.
      There are so many good topics to keep me busy lol.

    • @HateMachinist
      @HateMachinist 6 месяцев назад

      @@boreanknight Looking forward to it!
      Dagoth Ur is so fittingly logical: the Godshead-dream is the reality of Mundus, and the Dwemer disappeared when Kagrenac desperately struck the heart of Lorkhan during the battle of Red Mountain, effectively waking up the entire Dwemer race from the dream. Dagoth-Ur regains consciousness at a later point after the battle and conclude that since he is dreaming, he must clearly be God.
      For the Vampire-quests, you will need to use guides. Finding the respective lairs without guides is...not recommended. As a vampire, only the telvanni will talk or trade with you among normal NPC's, finding vampires interesting.
      There are some interesting books ingame, like "vampires of Tamriel" which contain some nice lore-fluff Bethesda sadly did not use in later titles, such as Skyrim vampire-clans sleeping in the solid ice in glaciers, like frozen corpses suspended in the ice, etc.
      If you like horror-elements, you will probably also like the nightmares you get while being a vampire. They can be pretty damn messed up.

    9:23 I expect Baladas will still be at Gnisis, or whatever is left of it. After all, he does say he'll be there after Gnisis is gone.
    I also want to see more of Baladas, but I think Bethesda made the right call including Neloth in Dragonborn instead. I don't believe the Red Year will have driven Baladas away from Vvardenfell; he seems pretty attached to the land he's on and I'm sure someone of his power can find a way to survive in the ash and destroyed landscape.
    If we see Baladas in a future game, I'd like him to be visiting whatever location the game is set rather than having moved there like Neloth. Maybe he could be on an expedition to study a Dwemer ruin in Hammerfell or something like that.

    Percius Mercius is a good mention. He's grounding in a world of politics and "chair polishers". Crassius Curio gets a rap for the first thing he makes you do, but especially since I get to his stage of Hlaalu quests around when Caius leaves, Curio felt like a more chaotic mentor alternative. Skink-in-Tree-Shade is the closest to a mentor and being level-headed in the Mages Guild, so that was a relief. And to think he's a master Speech trainer and keeps sharing books. Ajira is a good friend since I like to start off as a non-adventurer with an alchemy and mapping (I count filling my map as me charting details as I adventure) day job. Synnolian Tunifus is the alchemy fetch quest giver in the Cult, but I find it so funny how he forces you into dialogue, yet gets overjoyed over simple accomplishments, and dumps books on you because he thinks you're as nerdy as he is even though for all he knows you're just doing the rounds. Out in the wilderness, I like that there's so many unique NPCs instead of radiant generics.

    Excellent video! I love it a lot and was surprised you didn't have thousands of viewers. I have not had nearly the same amount of time with morrowind as you but one of the NPCs that stuck with me is the argonian near vivec who pretends to be an escaped slave and asks the player to take them to a twin lamps safe house, only to be revealed to be a Morang Tong Assasin sent to kill the abolitionists. It was a twist I genuinely never saw coming and I felt like had a lot of nuance.

    Some favorite characters are the Ienith Brothers who ambush you during that one Morag Tong quest, Hasphat Antabolis from the Fighter's Guild (a super enigmatic guy), Athyn Sarethi, and Gentleman Jim Stacey. Also, super random one, but always had a soft spot for the Khajiit slave in Addamasartus named Baadargo cause I thought it was a cool name. Wanted him to be a companion.

    • @boreanknight
      @boreanknight  Год назад +3

      That's a great selection and thanks! Hasphat was always so suspicious to me, really knowledgable guy for some random trainer in Fighter's Guild. I
      And I also remembered Baadargo because of the name, how funny. Too bad they all disappear after we release them. I wanted to have some of them move to my stronghold (it's Hlormaren so a lot of living space), give them clothes and books and just enjoy life lol.
      As for the Lenith brothers, I never reached to them but Dren Plantation in general is ripe for a video analysis.

    I remember how Neloth's retcon in Dragonborn annoyed me a lot. It made no sense at all. Neloth always was a grumpy old man, who made us kill an innocent woman just to get her robes. And payed 10 drakes! And then - boom - he is Dyvaith Fyr's clone 200 hundred years later. WTF?! Whoever wrote this garbage never played Morrowind, I'm sure. Baladas rocks, I join Telvanni House for him:)
    Btw, I like Ilmeni Dren, Anassi, Terana, Aryon, Orvas Dren, Edwinna Elbert and many others

    As someone whos go to characters in TES games are Orc barbarians, the smith Garothmuk gro-Muzgub in Suran is my dude. I really like that Garothmuk sort of breaks the orc stereotype but also doesn't either, he is a smith which the orcs in TES are known for being skilled at but he is also not a dumb brute and is very knowledgeable about the different armor and weapon types you can find in Vvardenfell. You really get a sense that he loves and is passionate about his craft. When ever I play a warrior type character, I always go out of my way to visit Garothmuk smithy when I am in Suran for his knowledge of arms and armor and to support his business by buying some repair hammers or selling him gear.

    • @boreanknight

      I remember him! And being so excited to read all the info on weapons and armors for the first time. It's been so long since I read those dialogues. I used to memorize some of it because I tought it would be important later in game (not that it isn't).
