I always looked at it like Primm in New Vegas: its very close to the start point, has few quests, had many more pre-release and beta content and importance, but today it just exists in game, to be seen once and almost forgotten.

Honestly Alek, that was an extremely impressive bit of investigation. I never connected all of the dots before, but I think you're dead on with the oblivion gate theory. We know they had the rough outline of TESIV already, with the not so subtle prediction down in Mournhold. Brilliant detective work!

Fkn love Pelagiad. Ill never forget the memories I made during my hardcore survivalist vanilla+ playthrough with that town. Spendibg the night at the inn, stocking up on supplies and venturing out into the local area to strive and slay and explore and return each night. Did the few little quests in the area and stayed for an ingame week just completely, utterly immersed.

Funnily enough, I had my first "player home" back in the day when I frist played Morrowind. It was the last house on the sideroad. I went in, killed the dude and declared my ownership - basically paying the guards for the house *cough
Dont judge me, I was a teen back then ^^'
Also my friend went crazy, because he could not for the love of god understand, why I would set up my house in this village. I didnt know either, I just thought its a nice place.

Don't blame youself. I don't think you're the only one who went "where do I drop off all my junk?" and made space for themselves.
I also did something similar in my first playthrough, then I felt bad and downloaded a mod to own the house of someone you can legally kill, but depending how long ago you did this it might have not been available.

That was a very interesting and entertaining video. I always liked Pelagiad as it feels comfortably familiar as you noted. Another town that would be interesting to get the low down on would be Caldera. I like both these towns' aesthetics and they seem to be plainly what they are--new Imperial charter towns or garrisons--but there is a bit more to it than what's written on the tin.

I visited Pelagiad quite a bit, as I had a mod house there back in the day.

So well done! So many details here I probably would have never picked up on. I think Hla Oad has a similar vibe. A little peaceful village outside of all the noise of politics and destiny, but there is definitely some shady stuff going on underneath the surface. One of the things I always found weird is that there is a Khajiit named Ra'Zhid inside Fatleg's drop off, which of course houses the cammona tong underneath a trap door. Ra'Zhid is not a slave and apparently part of the smuggling operation. I wonder if he is just a front, a token for the guards to not inquire any further into this "trade house". Cammona tong are nationalist and racist and yet they seemingly employ this Khajjit in Hla Oad. It's little details like this that make Morrowind stand out in terms of its lore and world building.

Outstanding trip down memory lane. Peligrad is always a fav stop of mine (I choose to walk rather than ride to Balmora.) Would you believe I found that dwemer artifact in my first playthru. Came in handy for a certain guild quest and it set me up to live on the streets of Balmora.
I stashed all manner of goodies in the towns roadside crates just in case the thieves guild requested it. It was a short jump to decorating the town, and eventually Cassius'.

As a kid pelegiad was always the town with nothing at all doing on but it was cool because there's no fast travel there. Beneath the surface there's more going on. My playthroughs have been mostly surface level with no over analyzing, but another town I noticed not much going on was maar gan. They have the church with the daedra and that's all. At least on the surface. Maybe there isn't anything going on but if there is it could make a good vid.

The idea of an Ashlander Language is nice. It's one of those things I missed from Daggerfall going onwards. Where Daggerfall actually had a lot of different "Speechcraft" skills. Etiquette which helped with Nobles and Merchants, Streetwise which helped with Peasants and Criminals, then minor languages like Daedric, Nymph, Dragonish, Giantish, etc. Including like I did in my last run, being able to even resolve quests through them (Fighter's Guild sent me to kill a Giant but I apparently passed a Giantish Check and got to talk to them and convince them to leave instead of just outright murder).
It's one of those things I'd love to see come back. Gives some much needed Roleplay in that not only can you have alternate solutions to quests (like with that Giant for me in Daggerfall), but it also lets you better define and play your character. Are you being some British Tourist basically who when confronted with Natives thinks that speaking your language Slower, Louder, and with Arm Gestures will make them magically understand you? Or are you struggling because you only know some passing phrases and aren't fluent? Did you pick up fluency in something like Nymph and why? Do you speak like an Aristocrat or a Peasant? Etc.
But I guess the reference in Morrowind to that one NPC is the last we're going to see if Speech skills being more interesting.
