I honestly think Splinter being a normal rat can work if maybe after he was mutated Hamato Yoshi was a father figure to him until he was eventually killed by Shredder giving Splinter the need to continue his legacy and avenge him and maybe that could be the main conflict between him and Shredder. Shredder killed Splinter’s mentor/father figure and and Shredder is trying to kill the last of the Hamato clan. (Idk I’m just spitballing here)
I loved the movie. The action, the animation, the style... My only complaint about this and the series that will follow is that April is once again used to make a turtle a simp for her instead of being a sister figure like in Rise or 2003. I hope that Leo will be spared the 2012 Donnie treatment. For the rest, the movie's good. I liked it, but 2003 and Rise still reign supreme in my heart.
I love the character design, art animation, and humor of this movie, but I have got to agree, splinter’s backstory threw me off so much. Also the ending? Not my thing, at all. I am trying to have an open mind about this, and I think I am getting better at it, but the ending makes me want to bang my head in a wall. It’s like a love hate relationship with this movie istg
Ok, but the 2018 Rise Movie was freaking AWESOME too, have you seen the fights?? EDIT: OK yeah, I did not watch your video to the end before writing that my bad lmao
hes right about the comedy, it has a somewhat balance connection with the action, and when the turtles have a conversation, the entire thing sounds unscripted
i feel like u pretty much summed up my issues on this movie. I think it works fine as like a standalone thing but going with the knowledge that there’s gonna be more in this universe with more films and a series I think that a lot of the lore they established here reaaaaaally killed potential for future story arcs. Like i don’t wanna watch the turtles go thru highschool. i fuck with this franchise because of all the weird off the wall shit they get into that isn’t like anything else on tv. now we’re putting them…. in the most boring predictable place to set a show marketed towards kids. I can see the cliche regurgitated plots that have been done 50 billion times already coming a mile away and it does not excite me. Plus like you said, the lack of any real shredder connection and all the cues they took from literally the worst film adaptations of this franchise is not inspiring confidence. (side note, i get people were really excited about his casting but why’d they get Jakie Chan, a chinese dude, with a very distinctly chinese accent, to play a japanese, or i guess in this case just japanese coded character? like he’s cool and i’m glad to see him get work in all these fun roles, but i just don’t think it’s that great of a call when asian cultures are already so commonly homogenized in media.) Once again, April being shipped with one of the turtles is just an immediate ew from me. Idk why the hell they keep doing it, it’s literally always weird as fuck, leave the interspecies romance to the fanfiction, please and thank u. Anyway yeah, fine as a standalone thing, and i’m still gonna check out what’s next for this iteration to see if it surprises me, but i have doubts about its ability to carry itself going forward with the foundation laid out here. Rise movie better, justice for my boys✌️
I would like to respectfully share my perspective on this matter. In my humble opinion, the Turtles Forever project may have been their final endeavor.
I was actually surprised when watching this, I get your a tmnt fan that has certain criticisms, but you seemed very happy only because a certain director that you actually enjoyed was making it, but I do understand your criticisms, I thought this tmnt movie was somewhere in the middle of the tmnt cinema tier list.
I personally find that the Ninjago franchise lost its charm after the movie. While I enjoyed seasons 5 and 6 immensely, I feel that the subsequent seasons lacked the same level of quality and originality.
Hahahaha you're defending TMNT!? That movie is such garbage. Why would splinter sent Leo away to be a leader.....it makes no sense. Why do they not fight crime? That's why we watch turtles. Tmnt is garbage
As a casual TMNT franchise fan (emphasis on casual) who saw TMNT in theaters as a kid and recently saw it again with my rose-tinted nostalgia glasses, I completely disagree
Yeah honestly that movie is kinda shit imo. like the rooftop fight is gas but leo is so mischaracterized through the whole thing that it kinda lowers my investment. Raph was literally just- right? Why is Leo on his ass about doing vigilante shit? That’s literally their entire thing. Hell we saw Leo himself doing it in brazil at the beginning of the movie. This mf is just a hypocrite the entire time and we’re supposed to act like both sides have valid arguments? Let alone like we should side with LEO? Then the entire rest of the plot is just a disconnected, disjointed mess that doesn’t tie in with any of the family conflict that gives this movie its appeal. The villains are all boring, gray, and completely indistinguishable from one another. It’s just a bunch of decent ideas that might be able to carry a movie on their own, all jammed together into one incoherent mess with some pretty neat highlights, but not much else going for it.
2:27 at that point might as well put myself in a casket because that was the funniest cut away ever

So basically the backstop from the original comics/TMNT 2003 Show, correct?

Absolutely living for the commentary in these videos 🤣🤣 Came from the Rise video, but I'm here to stay lmaooo

Finally, someone actually speaking FACTS!
1:27 “i’ve been tryna talk her into an inter species relationship”
I’m sorry to tell you this. Raph had a crush on April in the “Coming Out Of Our Shells” musical.

YIPEE
Heavily agree, I think this movie had too much of the teenage and too little of the ninja

I think TMNT was a fun watch and you can get something out of it, but like, story wise it's pretty weak overall, I gotta agree
