      Going to C2 directly with 20kg on your shoulders is incredibly hard, yet the Sherpas do that at least 10 times per season. They have to work so hard for their money and risk their lives so many times. Last year, when I climbed Lhotse I once even carried my two tents up to Camp 2 and returned the same day. You can imagine how extremely exhausting and what a long day that is. But seeing these mountains, being surrounded by these giants and all the glaciers, ice and rock formations and breathing the cold air simply makes me happy and I cant even resist to smile. It is such a gift that I am allowed to live this life and that I got a healthy functioning body and it makes me happy every day! Thank you for your words and thank you for your enthusiasm and for being a fan!

Excuse my ignorance but I am wondering if "solo" means you don't get any help to carry your gear and guide you through the mountain or does "solo" mean you don't get any help at all including things like setting up your tent, carrying your tent, cooking your food etc. ?

Since I used the fixed ropes and the food in Basecamp and Camp 2 the term solo is technically not correct. Though I carry everything myself, my tents, my food for higher camps, my gas, all my equipment etc. I also climb without Sherpa support or oxygen. It is hard work and actually drains a lot of energy out of your system which you are not able to regenerate during the time you are there, but thats part of my climbing style. You have to work with a Nepalese operator/expedition organizer in order to get the permit and have basecamp support. From there I was self sufficient. Depending on how you climb the prices vary a lot. If you need oxygen and a sherpa you pay minimum 30k $ to climb Everest. As a solo no O² climber you are almost not causing any costs, which is why it gets much cheaper. I can tell you I payed less than 20k $ for my Everest climb. That is quite good if you factor in that the permit alone is 11k $ and you also have to pay a garbage fee, a garbage deposit, a liasson officer and a rope fee.

      I was in May. The weather window for Everest opens around the 2nd week of May and is open until the end of May. This is when the jet stream slows down enough, so we can climb there otherwise we would be blown off the mountain. With the beginning of June the monsoon hits the Himalayas and no one climbs there anymore until autumn. In summer expeditions move to Pakistan.

    stepping on the rope with crampons is very "elegant"

    • @norrdinenouar
      @norrdinenouar  Месяц назад +1

      It is not ideal, but it happens to almost everyone up there and sometimes you cant avoid it especially not when you are exhausted at 6000+ Meters carrying a heavy load. You would know that if you had been there. These ropes are not your ordinary climbing rope though and the Rope Fixing team constantly checks the route. And apart from that the damage on the rope by using the jumar is way bigger than from the crampons.

    Walking on the rope when wearing crampons; nicks and cuts can't be good for the ropes integrity.

      Yes, but you can not always avoid it especially considering how weak you are sometimes. The fixing team is checking all ropes constantly

    your video is so cool honestly and it really shows how exhausting it may be doing this climb. but one the other hand, it looks commercialised as fuck honestly, the mountain, not your video. like, I get the whole " I went to everest" thing but I think the whole "experiencing nature in its virgin and natural state" thing is lost here, anyway.

      Happy to hear that! But please... dont die! I really mean it. Gather your experience, train hard, be respectful to the mountain and prepare properly. Climb some other 8000er before, before you go to Everest.

      Why would you risk brain damage or worse? Lack of oxygen is no joke and nothing to be proud of. It affects your ability to make decisions in the worst possible circumstances.
