- This is my attemt to summit Mount Everest solo withou oxygen in 2024.
After Annapurna I and Lhotse without oxygen, this would be my 3/3 8000er without the use of supplmentary oxygen!
In this video I will show you how life is in Camp 2 at 6500 meters!

I just found your channel yesterday. Thank you for bringing these wonderful videos and commentary. I'm sorry that you were not well for some time and were stuck in Camp 2. Those winds looked really strong. It was very interesting to see the kitchen tent and the melting of the ice for cooking. The cooks are doing a really good job.
Happy to hear that you enjoy the videos! It is important to me to show the people and the every day chores aswell, because that really shows how hard these people are working for their money!

Haha, anytime! You wouldnt believe how windy it was last year when I summited Lhotse. When I arrived in Camp 2 last year we had 5 days in a row of winds like that.

Great video. I was in Chamonix. France yesterday looking at the massive Mont Blanc thinking Everest is almost twice the height. It's just unreal
I LOVE CHAMONIX! Its such a beautiful place and a mountaineering paradise! Mont Blanc is/was a very important mountain in my development as a mountaineer. It delivered me my very first big loss/mistake, when I solod it the first time in Spring and I learned a lot from it, since I almost lost my life on its summit due to a snow storm. After that I climbed it 5 or 6 times from all possible sides and routes :D

Wow! I'm sorry you had to stay in Camp 2 so long. Probably felt like you were living there permanently. Holy cow that was some wind!! I thought you were going to blow away from the sounds of it! Did anyone blow away in their tent? Hope your health is fully restored by now. The pictures of Lhotse were awesome. Take care & God bless!
No one got blown away, but a lot of tents got destroyed completely or had severe damage!

I have some questions: what do you do during your downtime? just resting or do you have a e-reader with you? As you are traveling solo did you still need a climbing permit for this attempt or how does that work? Super cool what you are doing, was just interested in these details hehe greetings from Switzerland
Hey thank you for all your questions! Durig my downtime I try to go for a walk to keep the heart and lungs pumping. I mostly only have one or two physical books with me and a ton of audio books I litsen too. An E-reader seems like a nice Idea aswell. We also eat, rest and sleep a lot. Yeah, even if you are climbing completely solo and/or unassisted the Nepalese Government charges the permit fee just for you to approach the mountain and to be allowed to summit. Feel free to ask anything you would like. I can also go into more detail in upcoming videos where I cover one topic in detail.

@@norrdinenouar Yes I mean the only Scott Fischer I knew. I call him "my brother from another mother". I met him and worked for him a MM. I was the guy who drove him to the airport for that fateful expedition. I still have a hard time believing he didn't get off that mountain. Further it seems when he really needed help everyone was too busy or preoccupied to help the leader. And ya you seem very chill and confident which reminds me of him. Cheers and happy climbing! And as we'd say quite often "make it happen!"

@@sandrasan246 Yes I was working for him and Mountain Madness at the time. I was the guy who drove him to the airport (SEA-TAC) to go to Everest in '96.
And yes sadness is one of many emotions I felt about him not returning. The most common thought is "but how?". I referred to Scott as "my brother from another mother" which is pretty much why we met in the first place. I'm a second generation master painter and someone on a job I was working would hear how I talk and he insisted I must met this guy he knows named Scott Fischer. Shortly after meeting Scott he mentioned he could use some help with his business and since I was self-employed I said absolutely. This was mid '95.
I always say "I knew right away after meeting Scott that one day he would be famous, just didn't think it would be for the disaster that had happened in '96" .

You don't use an inflatable sleeping pad? Only the silver foam pad?

Hey, usually I use an inflatable mattress but for some odd reason I did not bring it this time. I did not find it in my equipment ;/

Did you manage to summit in the end?
Unfortunately not. I recovered a little bit from that gripal infection but never reached 100% again. I climbed to Camp 3 and Camp 4 and started my summit push, but had to realize very soon, that I can not push to the summit, otherwise I would have died and would still be up there, frozen forever. My body got so weakend by the infection, that I had no chance to successfully and safely summit

Hmmm.... next season I would like to try Cho Oyu from the Nepalese side in alpine style or go to Pakistan and do several 8000ers there. Inbetween a few climbs in the Alps I guess

How many Sherpas did you kill?
Since you mention it and talk about death so easily. I climb solo without Sherpa support and no oxygen. But yes I used fixed ropes. Unfortunately three Sherpas died the day right after I went through the Khumbu Icefall. They were part of the rope fixing Team of Imagine Nepal in 2023. A big group of approx 20 Sherpas went through the Icefall to carry more material up, when a serac collapsed on the last three guys. They died and they were not able to recover their body. They are swallowed by the glacier forever until the ice releases their bodies. All three men were very young and from the same little village called Thame. I dont know if it is fair to say that I killed them. Someone else needs to find an answer to this very difficult question. How many kids did you kill for wearing your shoes or wearing your T Shirt manufactured in Bangladesh? How many people died for your pleasure? How many animals had to suffer for your joy? I dont know. I only know that death is not an easy topic. And these guys joined these expeditions willingly because it is a good paying job for Nepalese wages. They are basically in the top 10% as a Sherpa and they also get a lot of credit and reputation for what they are doing. Is it worth the risk? Definately not! Again its complex. Maybe consider that the next time you judge others. I will try to climb alpine in the future.

You are right, I should call it "self sufficient". Nowadays you almost can not go solo anymore on the big mountains unless you go outside of the season or on a completely different route.

Hey, nah I just worked hard and had a good paying job, so I was able to save some money. Two years ago then, I quit my job and started travelling the world! Happy to hear that what I do inspires you! Never stop dreaming, everything is possible with discipline and hard work!

I did not summit, you can see that in the next video. I got sick in Camp 2 and had to turn around on summit day at around 8150m. I do have Camp 3 footage from last years climb of Mount Lhotse. I will probably release it tomorrow.
