Red Bull- “just in case you freeze to death, or fall into some rocks or some shit, we’re going to need to get a clip of you drinking a Red Bull at the peak.”
This is incredible. First of all to do anything at the summit without oxygen is a feat in itself, and then to descend on skis is just amazing. Now it looks kinda slow and not so exciting to watch, but if you know anything about K2 and skiing then you realize how difficult and dangerous this is as controlling your speed of descent on such a steep mountain is nearly an inhuman feat of athleticism. It would be so easy to lose control and one single slip would mean almost certain death as there is no way to arrest the fall once the momentum picks up and many of the sections are nearly vertical. Other sections are on ridges with nothing on either side except ice or rock cliffs mere inches from his skis. There is another documentary called Zabardast which features a multinational team of skiers and snowboarders trekking through the himalayas and climbing up some other insane peaks to be the first people to make descents on skis and snowboards that is absolutely incredible to watch.

Vids like this are so much better without backgound music. Thanks
The last video I watched, there was this guy telling how extraordinarily difficult it is to ascent to K2, people die every year, death valley and blah blah blah.... a video later, this guy is skiing down like he's in his grandma's backyard. Insane.
there is a difference between going there in summer and winter
Its about weathers, when its summers u cnt summit
And when its winter you can go to top and ski as its.snow !
Normally its high high risk to come in winters as weather is super high with lots of snow ! So this guy came in winters when its covered fully with snow
Normally people summit in summers as the roads to last village are closed, he would have come with special permission
This goes in my list of comments posted before actually watching the video

This video of the ski descent is absolutely amazing, made even more amazing by the fact that only the natural sounds are audible not some idiotic music. Thank you for posting this with real audio.
OK looks like I posted too soon, the real documentary is the one with the idiotic music throughout.
Absolutely love the vibe. Very pleased with the general moving away from flashy photography and pumpy music in outdoor adventure videos - the type of people who are truly interested in and inspired by this type of feat are not the type who want flashy videography. We want pure experience, to feel it the way the athlete feels it. The lack of music and constant sound of his breath creates such a tense atmosphere which of course is nothing compared to what he is experiencing, but at least we get a glimpse. Thanks so much!
That glimpse down the traverse from his POV was heart racing. Certain death if he skied half a meter forward. Crazy
I love the way you put it
Red bull videos have traditionally been about glorifying adrenaline junkies and making them look like gods, but there is a growing market for suffer/exhaustion junky videos with a more human component.
I wonder how they get third person footage when he's coming down. Helicopter?
@@Mike-bc7xvdron. Welcome to 2024
This is simply insane. Not skiing down, but climbing up.
Every time when I carry my ski gears and walk in the ski resort, I feel tired very soon.
Considering this is K2, the most deadly mountain, and he reached to the summit with ski gears on his back, I cannot imagine how difficult that is.
Plus no bottled oxygen
I've never skied in my life but that also looked INSANE to me. It looks so steep it gives me vertigo just watching it.
2nd deadliest mountian. Annapurna I is the deadliest with a third of climbers not surviving the decent compared to a quarter for K2
No there’s no way he got there climbing with a pack pack and ski gear not to forget the gear you need to climb, and he was all alone, and was asking questions about the location of the first camp, he got there on a helicopter 100000%.
@@zerubeus helicopters literally can’t fly that high up and they don’t even offer heli evacuations off k2 unlike one of Everest base camps where they can fly to. You need to look into this mountain or just check out what helicopters are capable of and you’ll realize this is 100% legit.
cameras don't do slopes justice on how steep they are and that thing looks steep as HELL even through the camera. Can't belive he actually did that, what a mad lad
That’s insane! This guy climbed up the hardest peak in the world without supplementary oxygen, drank a Red Bull on the top without showing strong evidence of being exhausted, and went down on his skis, even in the steep parts and in the crests! Awesome!!
Hmm I dont think he climbed it. I think he was brought to the summit with a helicopter
@@vukkekovic7005 maybe he received some help, he could be left at 6000 meters, but an helicopter can’t reach the summit (over 8000 meters)
@@vukkekovic7005 air is too thin for a helicopter to fly up there that's why you are screwed if you get in trouble on everest, nobody is coming to get you. It's impossible to do so safely and helicopters are not an option
@@rylandavis2976 Yea I know it, my mistake, But I still think he was brought up to some point
@@vukkekovic7005 he probably was not, even military helicopters that can fly higher than civilian choppers, can only fly at about 20,000 feet. The base camp at k2 is 18,000 feet, he might have been flown in to the base of the mountain. But that's it. There's only one way up mountains in the Himalayas and that is walking, if they had a really high altitude chopper they could maybe get him to camp one, but I highly doubt it.

Wow just wow , as someone else said the degree of difficulty in that is off the roof. And you can hear how icy the snow is. Just a 100 out 10.

It is even more impressive if you know that he climbed K2 summit, alpine style, without supplemental oxygen and with skis on his back. Bargiel is one of the strongest and the fastest skialpinist/himalaist in the world.
Agreed
No
At about 7 or 8 minutes when he reaches a checkpoint and says “I need to catch my breath” was such a tense moment. Despite this man’s body being made of titanium, you could still feel the wear-and-tear of the mountain really getting to him. I can’t believe this happened. Very inspirational.
Brave as hell. You know it's real when a pro is leaning back and skidding like I do on a regular slope.
I can't imagine how many insane micro adjustments he had to make every second. The snow is so variable at that altitude and exposure. The amount of mental focus required to ski that is beyond comprehension. His heartbeat must've been a solid 180 the whole way down.
i love how casual these two are having a conversation on one of the hardest and most dangerous mountain in the world. They are literally having a conversation like they are on a hike at a local state park. Incredible

Seeing him go down the Messner Traverse scared the shit out of me. Absolutely insane!
What this doesn't show is that Andrzej did the remainder of the climb by himself, after his friend/guide was paralysed by lower back pain at the 7000m camp. What a fucking trooper.

It’s physically impossible to ski down the entire way from the summit that’s why there are a lot of edits (just one example are the unavoidable rock bands plus then there’s the traverse at the bottleneck).
