    JP3 was directed by Joe Johnston and released in 2001 after going through a production without a completed script. However, originally the movie was going to be made with an idea by Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton himself. This video is essentially made on the idea of this: What if Steven Spielberg Directed Jurassic Park 3? The feathered raptors, pteranodons and Spinosaurus would probably be quite different in that version of the movie and I'm not so sure that the Spinosaurus vs Tyrannosaurus scene would've even made it in the final cut...I'd love to know what all of you think about this. :D

    If Spielberg directed, you can guarandamntee that the Tyrannosaurus would not have been killed off like it was. That was Horner finagling his bias into the ear of Johnston. Spielberg likely wouldn't have allowed his star attraction to be unceremoniously killed off in his vision.

    honestly i like the idea of grant staying on the island to study the dinosaurs, in the first movie even when he was watching the t-rex eat the gallimimus, he was still interested in how it ate and hunt. i think if the idea was changed up a bit it could’ve worked out. he could’ve discovered more about velociraptor behavior and INGEN’s more secretive plans involving dinosaurs and cloning; which could have better set the stage for jurassic worlds ‘trained raptors’ and hybrid dinosaurs. the only way i think this wouldn’t work out is because of the overall plot and suspense. but that’s just my opinion. hopefully in JW3 we see grant and sattler again tho

    Whenever I hear about the original idea of Grant studying dinosaurs in the trees, I get super excited (as if I'm going to get to see it). Then I get super sad because I know that I'll never see it. Unless I can travel to a parallel universe where that movie actually got made.

    I personally think that if Spielberg directed the third film, it would be a much better film. I would have liked to see Alan doing more research on the dinosaurs on Sorna. And yes, every film goes through three stages of writing. Pre production, production, and post production. As I'm editing my JP fan film, it's not holding up to my original vision. We changed a few things in the script during filming because some things didn't make sense. Spielberg is a cinematic genius when it comes to shots and composition. His use of dolly shots and oner scenes are just mind blowing to me.
    Great video! Awesome topic to talk about.

      @@speedracer2008 Precisely, it's what Spielberg never really "gave" apparently. He just wanted the whole "Robinson Crusoe" deal but he was unable to convince Johnston of "why" would someone who survived being chased and almost killed several times would want to go back to the same hell. I mean, Spielberg himself directed Lost World where Ian Malcolm quite adamantly called Jurassic Park hell and refused to go back. Grant may be a paleontologist but studying bones is not the same thing as risking life and limb studying gigantic and dangerous living animals.
      Also, the entire RObsinson Crusoe idea was apparently tossed fairly early in pre-production. There was also an extra extremely complex story about Grant helping to investigate dino attacks on the mainland which was also tossed because it was too complex.

    Yeah I've personally always really liked how in JP3 Grant is pessimistic about the whole situation, always made him feel more believable personally, especially after JP1.
    But then in Dominion I think it also makes sense that he's still in the dinosaur profession because that's what he knows best and he needs to make money. Plus when you've experienced the things he has then you're more qualified than a lot of people when it comes to dinosaur related jobs.

      Yes it does make sense and when you are hunted and attacked by an animal or any kind it can be very traumatizing along with his overall experience of trying to survive with the other characters. But it does make me wonder if he may have not have felt that way entirely because his experience has inspired him to do more research on raptor intelligence, which Klayton Firoriti has mentioned in another video, and you can see this in the movie when he talks with Ellie. So maybe he would for sure be more cautious and not taking things for granted, and he would still be willing to go back due to his curiosity and fascination, which is something of a reason I think can relate to everyone for wanting to visit a dinosaur island despite the risks.

      @GamingTV the only reason why I didn't like it as much as the others is because the film itself doesn't have that Jurassic Park touch. Also the way it ended, this film was going to be the one to end the trilogy, but it ends so abruptly and though I actually like the Spinosaurus, it's only purpose in the film is to kill the T-Rex and be the main antagonist. It's not like the indominus Rex where there is a reason for why she is the main threat and focus than the T-Rex.

      @GamingTV I do agree with you on them Disneyfied the dinos, but they don't do it to all of them only the raptors and personally I like that about Jurassic World, giving the raptors different personalities helps us differentiate them from one another. The raptors aren't overly friendly either and Owen even said that they are dangerous animals same thing can be said about lions, lions are wild, dangerous animals but if you raise it when it's young (like what Owen did Blue and her sisters) and you stay with it for the rest of its life, then it would come to respect you, it's not a pet thing it's a respect thing (just like Owen said). GamingTV I'm not a fan of the Jurassic World movies. But, uh, the domesticated dinosaurs (as you call them) do go insane and cause chaos. So, if anything, it's exactly what Malcolm and Grant warned. On a grander scale.. because they trained these dinosaurs, have GPS trackers embedded in them, and (stupid) security with live ammunition.. and shit hit the fan. Actually, Jurassic World is more like shit, birds, and concrete hits the jet engine. Again, I dislike the Jurassic World movies.. but chaos theory is still present in them. So present, in fact, that it beats you over the head with it. I mean, fuck, chaos happens to chaos what with the Mosasaurus stepping into the fight.. after Rexy... and the Raptors step in. I'm honestly not sure why I'm typing anymore. Fuck Jurassic World. Chaos theory happened to the franchise--and THAT is what Malcolm warned. Trevorrow discovered Jurassic Park and BAM he packaged it. • @KlaytonFioriti
      @KlaytonFioriti  6 лет назад +8

      They actually explain that in the movie. The reason Zia Rodriguez goes along with Wheatley in Fallen Kingdom is because she's worried about him injecting Blue with too many tranq darts. She even pulls one out on his vest and shows what the darts look like before telling him that one too many can kill her. When Owen is shot and falls to the ground she immediately runs to his body and pulls the dart out of him. There is a close up of the pulled dart in her hand and you can see that only half of the blue liquid went into Owen. I'm not so sure what kind of tranquilizer was used on Henry Wu but the stuff with Owen is explained on screen. Hope this helps :)

    • @MoonLoonie69
      @MoonLoonie69 6 лет назад

      Yeah but just a small amount enough could have been already been flooded into his blood stream, which is alot different from a full grown raptor. It's filled with Carfentanil, which is extremely potent and has a lethal human dose in the micrograms, meaning any human injected with a dinosaur-sized dosage of it should have experienced fatal respiratory failure. Yet Wu and Owen recover fairly quickly and suffer no lingering side effects.

      As the above commenter said, Malcom had no choice but to accompany Levine, knowing he would be in danger otherwise. Also, Levine actually asked Malcolm to help him investigate dinosaur attacks in Costa Rica. Malcolm was pretty much already forced to help once Levine confirms evidence of dinosaurs in the Central American lands. Plus there's the fact Levine decides to explore the place by himself and Malcolm realises BioSyn infiltrated their offices and found out about Isla Sorna. So yeah, Malcolm didn't "choose to go", he was "forced to go".
      In fact, it's not very differently in the movie itself. Malcolm doesn't want to go to Isla Sorna in the movie, Hammond basically sends Sarah Harding to the island and then informs Malcom about it,making it impossible for Malcom to refuse.

    I feel like Spielberg’s story would have been a lot better and wouldn’t have played out so clunky. Also things like Amanda Kirby’s consistent ignorance would not have been an issue, if they were in the movie at all. With those things being said, in ways I’m thankful that JP3 is how it is for a few reasons.
    Firstly, I feel that with it tanking like it did it made the wait for the next movie that much sweeter. Being able to enjoy the next chapter of JP as an adult is something that I’m very grateful for because I have a much higher appreciation for the story than I did as a child.
    Secondly, I feel like if Spielberg and Crichton would have stayed on together they would have wrapped up a lot of the ideas that are being addressed now in this new trilogy.
    Thirdly, things like the DPG and all that info wouldn’t weigh as heavy and be as exciting as they are if Johnson’s version was never made. The JP franchise suffered dramatically from large portions of things that simply didn’t make sense or line up after the release of JP3. JP3 basically said to hell with the ideas and stories that have been building, we’re making an adventure film. While fun to watch, it severely hurt the direction of the franchise because there was simply no where to go after what it did. The DPG has bridged all of those gaps and made the lore more interesting than I ever thought it would be(so I guess in all fairness, that’s more on the creativity of the DPG people).

    You know what would've been awesome? If we saw Spinosaurus battle with Cerataurus and kill it instead or maybe have the smaller T-rex die but later towards the ending of the movie we see Spino come face to face with the same T-Rex couple from Lost World and wage war with each other with the T-Rex pair winning. that would've been cool.

    I'd like to think that if Spielberg had directed JP3 a lot of his go-to crew would have been involved: Janusz Kaminski as cinematographer, David Koepp helping as an additional writer, John Williams composing the soundtrack, etc. On top of that, I think we'd also see a more ambitious directorial style like what we got in TLW with its long-takes and tracking shots. Lastly, I think Spielberg would've been much more careful with the usage of CGI-using it mostly for wide shots, dark scenes, or moments where practical effects otherwise wouldn't be possible.

    I think there isn't enough talk on the Speilberg side of the Jurassic Park franchise, so this video was a fantastic watch. Having worked on a few student films myself and been on blockbuster films in a professional capacity, I can attest to how any creative work can change day-to-day when they're being made. Creativity is at its best when it's fluid and changing to make the idea the best it can possibly be in the eyes of the creators. Peter Jackson's King Kong originally had a scene with the protagonist hitting a baseball with his buddy as they fly WWII FIGHTER PLANES. Tones of entire movies can change, as seen with JPIII: I don't think Spielberg's version of the movie would have looked quite so grimy with the cooler, more temperate colour grading.
    On Alan Grant's perspective in JPIII, personally I think it was very understandable. The scene with Lex and Tim was made at an optimistic hope spot in the film with the herbivores, and notably was a long time before he and Lex and Tim would encounter the Raptors. I would bet that when Lex and Tim recalled their encounter to him, it would have dredged up the horror of when he first heard InGen had bred Raptors and swung his entire opinion of the park around. Jurassic Park has always had two sides of the coin to me: the optimistic beauty with the herbivores and the pessimistic horror with the carnivores. JPIII changed from the former to the latter regarding Alan during its development.

    Personally I always found Alan Grant hating dinosaurs (or at the very least INGEN's clones) to actually make less sense. Yeah the raptors tried to kill him and so did good o'l Rexy but, I'm sure as the paleontologist Grant is he would have recognized that they were just animals doing what comes naturally to them. It makes sense for Ian Malcolm to hate the dinos and to not want to have anything to do with them. He was a nay sayer from the start and through the events of the first film his Chaos Theory was proven correct.

    I just discovered from my film screenwriting teacher, who is an Oscar winner, that Spielberg has NEVER written his own screenplays. Yes, he’s jotted down ideas for stories but never a script which actually surprises me. Spielberg knows how to take a good (or bad) screenplay and make it better than it is. Which is why I believe Jurassic Park 3 would’ve been a 10x better had he directed it.
    However, JP3 still holds a special place in my heart as the first Jurassic Park film I witnessed in theaters as a kid.

    I had heard about Spielberg's idea before, but honestly I had forgotten about it. Likely Crichton stepped away because he didn't agree with Spielberg's story direction. I agree with Johnston that it would not make sense and like his take on Grant's idea about Hammond's dinosaurs and even felt he took it back to the book by breaking up Ellie and Alan. Also, the way the film production went, I think we can be quite sure, had Spielberg been at the helm, the movie would probably have been canceled completely and though some might prefer that, I think that would have been a real waste. I like JP3 a lot now. Sure, it's far from perfect, but by now it inspired so much nice fan and also canon theories.

    Dr Grant is my all time favorite Jurassic character. I was already hugely disappointed by JP3. If they screw up yet another movie with him, I will never forgive Universal. Here's hoping that Dominion will be at least as good as the other two JW movies. I'm honestly hoping for better, because both JW movies suffer from the same attention deficit that most modern movies have.
    Btw, JP3 was the first time I ever noticed this nuhollywood obsession with not focusing on one thing for more than a couple minutes. How many JP3 scenes can you fit into... the kitchen scene from JP? How many JW scenes can you fit into the T-Rex breakout? How many Fallen Kingdom scenes fit into the Nedry vs Dilo scene?
    Granted, JW at least has some longer scenes, but not a lot. The longest scene is probably when Owen investigates the Indominus paddock. Even then, that scene is separated by the film cutting to other things.

    Honestly, if Jurassic World 3 is going to be the last film in the franchise (until another reboot), it'd only make sense if Steven Spielberg directed it. I know Colin is making it and it is his trilogy, but it only feels right to say Steven should be the one to end it since he birthed this incredible (film) franchise and someone who was very close to Michael and understood what they had in terms of visuals and themes even if the films presented them differently.
