I once wrote to Michael Crichton by sending him a letter through the publishing company of Jurassic Park. He sent a signed postcard in return saying, "Thanks for writing! Best wishes" and signed it at the bottom. I use it as a bookmark whenever I re-read Jurassic Park or The Lost World.
Crichton's legacy will forever live on in our memories. It's amazing to think that the idea of someone to clone a pterasaur would lead to 2 amazing books,5 and future 6 beloved and disliked films, countless toy's (except the downfall that were the JW toy's), a large amount of comics, multiple video game adaptations including the beloved JPOG witch to this day has an active community thanks to mods (looking at you JWE) and fanfics some great others not so much ( It's not raptor DNA and Why so Blue are the best one's in my opinion) and most important of all the millions of fans all over the world. As for how the movie franchise will continue, well that is for his family to figure out.
His legacy wil live forever as long as the books stay in good condition for people to read and all the jurassic movies are great if you like dinos. The dinos are the heroes not the people
I’m really happy to see that Crichton got a big role with the movie, I feel bad for him, his original dream wasn’t done with the book, but with the movie it was, that’s just a really nice thiing to know😀
I love how the way John Hammond written represent the story he's in, or vice-versa. In the book, he was described as "Dark Side of the Walt Disney" (he care more about the profit than the safety of everyone else), which is reflected by the more violent nature of the book compared to the movie, as well as his ironic death, as it was written for adult. In the movie that's full with sense of awe and wonder, which incorporated more of the original idea, John is such an affably, jovial old man, that want his dinosaurs to be seen by everyone (a Light Side of the Walt Disney, if you will), which resonated with this Walt's quote: "I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty."
What made the book awesome was that the science behind it wasn’t outlandish. It felt possible. And the discussions of palaeontology, genetics, mathematics, paleo botany, park management. There was A LOT of genuine science behind the strike. And I think the best kinds of books are the ones that feel genuinely real.
Klayton, I found your channel several months ago and I have to say, it's pretty crazy how you've been able to so frequently publish new videos on JP. You've been doing it for a long time now, too. I've always felt like, "Well, he'll get bored soon or run out of stuff to say," but nope, you keep on going. It's impressive. Good job, bro.
I knew all of this except the amount of times Crichton re-wrote the book. Didn't realise how much he wanted to make the child perspective work. Though it didn't help that critics didn't know why they didn't like it
Someone actually thought that Claire's personality was changed between JW and Fallen Kingdom, because although Claire might have had a little bit of sympathy for the dinosaurs, she was nowhere near the animal rights activist that she was from the get-go in FK.
I believe the critics wanted Jurassic Park to be a story for an adult . So I think that’s a better story . But after the book was published and became a success kids stated reading it and Crichton asked is it any good and they sat yeah It’s good .
My introduction to Dr. Crichton's work was "The Andromeda Strain". Definitely a page-turner. I stayed up all night to read it, mostly because I was too scared to fall asleep. The man did his research when writing.
Every person who has read the Jurassic park book that I’ve spoken too loves Michael Crichtons Jurassic park and his other amazing novels. Someone I know even got to read the lost world early since they got the books in storage in the library she worked at!
I read Jurassic Park and lost world 4 years ago after I came home for the summer 2015 and I loved them . I’m gonna read them again next year for the new Netflix series . And 2021 for Jurassic world 3 .
This channel got me to read/ listen to the audiobook of Jurassic Park. Klayton damn you! Now my audiobook library has 9 Crichton books. I'm a Crichton stan to say the very least and have gotten through 14 of his books. I'll say it again, damn you Klayton!
Lol I just did this as well. Both novels! Even though I remember not being a fan of lost world the first time, it was okay the second time around, probably because of the guy reading the audiobook had a nice voice
Honestly, Michael Crichton has become one of my personal heroes. I I find it reassuring that he could take his knowledge of one area (science) and translated into another. (narrative storytelling.)
This just proves it: having the right POV for your story cannot be appreciated enough; it changes EVERYTHING. Thank you for this video. A lot of it I didn't know yet.
Wow can you imagine if the book never got released the movies would have never existed and I myself would think of dinosaurs as nothing more than just long forgotten animals even as a kid but I'm happy that his book is now a huge success for all people even on film so far I'm liking no not liking I'm loving dinosaurs for what they are and what they were and wonder if he was alive today how happy would he be to see his most famous book become a huge success for everyone around the world.
So basically the movie version we ended up getting was a mix between the final story Crichton ended up publishing and the earlier, family friendly version he had originally envisioned.
Thank you so much for telling me about the book through your videos. I first came aware of the novel when you made the video about Nedry's death in the book and I haven't abandoned the books ever since. I grew up with the film's. But I couldn't thank Crichton enough. Rest in peace you brilliant man.
An absolutely brilliant video! I never knew these things. Crazy to think how many changes it went through- and here I was in awe of how perfect that first film is- it was 10 years in the making. From idea and all the changes. I’m in awe
The joy and suspense that Michael Crichton brought to book readers and audiences alike; Was to bring out the inner kid in all of us with the revival of dinosaurs to reality :) Im still praying that we get a survival horror JP game and still wishing for more JP/JW Funko pops :)
I was like 7 or 8 and My mother took me out of class early to catch the matinee at our local theater. It scared the hell out of us haha. I gripped my theater chair throughout the whole movie.
Ive been a HUGE Crichton fan since my 8th grade teacher told our class about the book, and how that summer it was going to be a movie. I remembered their was a copy of the book shelves downstairs at home. I started reading it that night, all day during school (We had standardized testing so after I finished a test I read between them.) I literally read the book in 2 days. Ive been a fan of Jurassic Park and Crichton's work ever since. That said, he obviously took his Westworld theme park idea and translated it over. I honestly didnt know until last year as I TORE through all his books first, but avoided his early movie directing career. Last year I decided to go through his IMDB database of the movies he had directed or written, and Westworld was his first movie he wrote and directed. When I watched it Jurassic Park made complete sense as a better itineration of the original theme park idea.
I love hearing this kind of backstory, I never knew some of this. I’m 32 and grew up LOVING JP, I can’t even count how many times I’ve read the the book!
