They had encephalitis from DX (the prion disease) so they probably suffered from debilitating pain and neurological issues before dying fairly young.
While they did die young they still lived long enough to breed, but not rear the young properly so the raptors you see in the lost world book were irritable and poorly socialized not to mention malnourished from there being too many raptors and declining numbers of prey resulting in savage (even by raptor standards) animals that barely functioned as a pack.

    • @keith4391
      @keith4391 2 года назад +11

It depends. I particularly find Grant a bit self-centered and that he only cares about himself more in the novel. In the film, for example, he was also tough when he had the courage to get out of the car with a flare to distract the t-rex and take his attention away from the kids, while in the novel he observed everything in his car without leaving. In this scene, he gets rid of the kidnappers to get rid of his own skin and not be killed by them, for example. But let's say they both had their brave moments, each different moments.

In the movie they get rid of the raptors in such an easy way, like a t-rex coming out of nowhere and taking them out by humans, doing the "dirty work". I love how in the novel they themselves have to get rid of the raptors on their own.

I read the books in 5th grade, before I even heard of the films, and they were amazing. I attribute most of what I am today to them. Malcolm's cynical, cold, and calculating personality opened my eyes to lots of things. And Grant's realization that looking after younger and less capable humans made me take up tutoring. Crichton wrote this book amazingly, and I wish the films were a bit more close to the books. So Klayton, I ask you this: Did The franchise ever teach you something that helped you become who you are today?
    Keep up the great videos!

Tim and Lex probably didn't expect that the baby would be killed by the Velociraptors, they assumed that they would accept the infant as their own. Unfortunately, the Raptors were more inclined to kill a potential threat over letting it live. I agree that it is sad that the baby had to die, but I am under the impression that the kids really didn't expect the baby to be killed like that.

The trailer scene I liked a lot in the book. With the unexpected behaviour of the T Rexes to locate their baby with some sense no one knows about.
I liked it, because you can really only know the bones and overall structure from the fossils, but they would have more to them, that we can never find out. Animals developed a lot of different senses different to our own, like heat "vision" in snakes, feeling small electrical impulses made by moving creatures in sharks and other fish, birds can probably feel the magnetic field of the earth to help them guide on long distant flights, etc.
Dinosaurs could have developed their own special senses and I like the second novel plays with this.
You get really the feeling in the books that not even the scientists know what they actually brought back to life there, we have no clue about the abilities, needs and behaviours of those long ago extinct animals, we brought back.

This was one of the sections of the book that I regularly reread on its own (surpassed only by my rereading of the Nedry death scene when I was 9 years old). The tension and constant mental calculus as Grant and the raptors play a complex game of chess/cat and mouse was amazing. Pity it never made the final cut of the movie.

The baby raptor’s death was the most heartbreaking death in the novel for me. It was a cute baby almost like a pet in the beginning and was ripped apart helplessly after starving for a day or so alone in the nursery. Injustice...

Poor baby Raptor, I saw many comments saying it could've been a predecesor of Blue in the films but, in the film we never see that one baby again so in a way perhaps in the film universe it was.
We never see that baby in the first movie after the first one and we know there were many young dinos that were better raised.
In a way very similar to Planet of the Apes another film with similar messages to the JC universe as far as how humans treat animals.
That baby is the difference between an animal at a zoo raised with love and care and one throne into an attraction without any thought into how it's treated. The events of the film are in many ways a cautionary tale. It begs the question. If the Dinosaur's in the park were created but then treated the same as a dog or cat where we spent time breeding them, training them, domesticating them, if these creatures would have been more docile over time had someone only waited and not rushed it.
Or even if they chose to complete the DNA with something else like a gecko. We do this with dogs in some cases. Feral cats can be very aggressive to people but,the kittens of a both a feral and domestic cat have a 50% chance of suffering from behavior problems. The same though goes the opposite way. -shrug- it makes you wander if the trained animals would've been okay if not for people rushing the work or playing with predators before testing the method on something far less scary.

Ahhhh, it'd be so great if they made a faithful adaptation of the novels. Imagine a mini series with a brilliant cast, set in the early 90s without holding back. i.e. the story in it's unrelenting magnificence. Think Regis getting torn apart by a juvenile rex, muldoon complaining, being a badass and getting steadily more drunk over the course of events. Malcom being philosophical and witty and Nedry's rendezvous with Dodgson in the airport, giving the series a hint of corporate espionage. That'd be fan-fucking-tastic.
