Here I go over the rumors of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park novel that we never got to see and debate on whether or not this dinosaur book was really a thing. We go over evidence from around 20 years ago that details information about the Tyrannosaurus Rex from The Lost World, the author's involvement with Spielberg on JP3 and even talk about some of the proposed ideas for what he would have done with the dinos in this alleged story. Hope you all enjoy! :D

The day that JP3 was officially announced, it was actually announced on a local radio station here. While the books and the film adaptations were different beasts, I would have very much liked it if he followed up on the dinosaurs in the mainland plotline he ended the first book with.

With how the novels left off, I don’t see how there could be another sequel. We know they Isla Nublar was clearly destroyed by napalm, and it was clearly stated that all dinosaurs in Sorna was doomed due to DX.
Honestly though, I was quiet satisfied with the novels. I third would be a real risk of it becoming cliche or something detrimental to the series. I prefer it it on a good note than having it go so long that it ruins the series.

Technically, Dragon Teeth is a prequel to Jurassic Park. If you look at referenced names in it, there are several that match up with JP rather than the real world. I've believed that he'd decided to work it into the backstory of Jurassic Park with how long it took him to get that to where it was.
Congo and Rising Sun also have a lot of things that link up with it, Congo especially. Rising Sun is one where it's just some business names, while Congo makes some others.

I remember like 20+ years ago, reading online about how Crichton supposedly was writing a prequel about cloning the dinos and the impact of that and the drama around it, and then later I read it was no longer a “JP” book but was instead a new cloning-focused work titled “Embryo” that was unlikely to connect to the larger Mythos outside of maybe a tongue-in-cheek reference, and then nothing. Of course now we must assume that it was never true, or if it was, it never got past some initial plans and blather. :)

In the novel universe, dinosaurs on the mainland is the obvious way to go for a 3rd installment; the Nublar dinosaurs were bombed to death, the Sorna dinosaurs died from a disease. The whole "dinosaurs breeding on the mainland" idea always felt to me like the next logical step for the franchise. Mankind having played God now having to live with the Pandora's Box they've unleashed via genetic engineering. Building walls around their cities to protect themselves feels thematic in a way, a reverse Jurassic Park.
It's why I'm glad Fallen Kingdom decided to wipe out Nublar. There HAVE to be repercussions for mankind effectively bringing back creatures that were "selected for extinction".

But the tarasaurs did count with the book in 1990 . So Crichton had lots of projects on his hands . But I still say the novels and Jurassic 1 lost world Jurassic world and fallen kingdom were one of the best movies I ever watched . Jurassic world 3 will have more dinosaurs and hopefully another Jurassic novel will happen or not . Crichton was right.

I do wonder about the dinosaurs breeding in the mainland at the end of the Jurassic park novel. Of course these are the small dinosaurs the raptors and the complys that already escaped the Isla nurbar before the island was destroyed.

Ah yes. I remember so vividly how I searched high and low for any info on a third Jurassic novel. I remembered that before his death he did an interview in which he hinted at his next book being in the same vein as Jurassic. That novel turned out to be Micro released posthumously and completed by Richard Preston. I’m sure Crichton had ideas for what a third JP book could be, but it never got past the “eh, maybe” stage. He wanted to move on to other things.

I think the main reason for Crichton's answer in 2002 is because of what JP3 did to the franchise on that time, Although JP3 is more original to the first JP even more than the newer JW movies but it was really a huge disappointment.

If there really was a third book it would've been about Ian, Alan, Levine, Thorne, Muldoon, Ellie, Sarah discovering that dinosaurs are still alive, and the government wants to them down and destroy them. The characters decide to save the dinosaurs and exposed the Government's cover up.

Pretty much how I remember it. I think the sequel Crichton was referring to was a sequel movie he could've been involved in with writing a script, but I don't think he ever planned to write a third novel. And as with all movies, there were more ideas than what we've actually seen come to the screen. Some great, some aweful. To me Crichton's novel canon is rounded up, finished well by its predictions. Forever a mystery and never something the public really knew about before all would be lost again. However, for the movie canon I'd love more books with interesting material related to present day paleontological findings and mystery and suspense the way Crichton was able to give us.

Dinos on the mainland would have been a FAR better path to go down that the "Dino-weapons" meme they followed. Kind of seemed Crichton was strongly hinting in that direction in his books.

TBH ... I think their wouldn't had been an actual book because TLW novel kinda ended it all but if their was to be one it would been something like Jurassic World except without the Hybreds and would had Spino as the main villian Dinosaur so i think their would had been a mix of Jurassic World and Jurassic Park 3 and like in the TLW it focused on Ian Malcolm i think Dr. Grant would been the main character maybe along with Ellie and maybe just maybe... a character based on Masrahni buying Ingen capturing dinosaurs eventually having a failed Park only leading to a very similar story for Official Jurassic World Novel with actual Hybred..
so you'll see a little of TLW and Jurassic Park at full display in the mix of eachother as well they would maybe be in another Island Site C since the last 2 islands were destroyed or could been on the mainland somewhere like Brazil or an island based on Indonesian islands where Komodo Dragons live which would be a exelent idea for it becuase of the rugged and hilly covered with forest and savanna grassland

  • @karlthegoat2354

I don’t care for a 3rd novel. If we are looking at novel cannon, JP ended with all the dinosaurs dying when the island was bombed. In TLW, we are lead to believe those dinosaurs were going to die off because of DX. I’m fine with both novels ending the story on their perspective island. Although, dinosaurs had already reached the main land in both stories, I don’t think there were enough to create a breeding group that could thrive, except maybe for the compys. 😬

Can you please explain something to me from the first movie? After Rexy attacked the first time, and Allan Grant got her attention with the flare, he threw it away to try and make her leave; my question is, why did Ian Malcolm light a second flare to draw Rexy's attention after Allan threw his flare away? This has always bugged me so, if anyone could explain it to me, that would be great.
