    Paul, I have mentored many managers in my career, and lesson 2 on being a great leader is let your employees try their new ideas. If it succeeds, they get credit, if it fails YOU are the person who takes the blame. You either did not train them, or you did not anticipate the risk. I lov.e watching you as you work with your team, not your employees, but your team.. You guys are knocking it out of the park.. Lesson one? NEVER run out of Kleenex. If you read this and ask, I will explain why this is lesson 1.. Again, as a leader in an non construction environment and remodeling contractor of 20 years, I love your products.

      Thank you so much for your kind words at the end of the day it's all about a believe in other people and taking yourself out of center stage and letting other people shine if you're good at doing this you'll be good at Lean

    Seeing that Haas VF in the background made me think of an improvement that many people don't realize when it comes to CNC programming. When you want to drill a deep hole, the common practice is to use a peck drilling cycle called G83 to clear the metal cuttings out of the hole. One of the parameters of that cycle is the depth per peck (Q) which is usually set at 1 or 2 times the drill diameter. However, there is a faster way! You don't need to clear cuttings out of a deep hole if the hole isn't deep yet. You can go at least 3 times diameter on the first peck and then go shallower with each subsequent peck. So instead of using Q, you use IJK. "I" tells the machine how deep to go on the first peck. "J" tells the machine how much to reduce the depth on subsequent pecks. And "K" tells the machine the minimum peck depth.
    I did this with a program that had a mere 2 drilled holes for M8 bolts to 1.4" depth and it save 9 seconds PER PART. Going from a Q of .2" to I .85", J .25" K .2" saved 9 seconds, with hole and thread quality remaining the same and tool life remaining the same. It took less than 30 seconds to make that change and it saves 32.5 hours per year at an average of 50 parts per day.

    Lets say you warm up a 24mm wrench with a heat gun, will it work? if it leave a bit of melted foam on the tool, is it easy to remove? could you guys make a video?

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  7 лет назад +2

      We tried this once…The issue with this method is that the hot tool melts away the sides of the cutout, leaving a larger cutout than desired. It also takes away from the definition of the cutout making it harder to identify. The foam will melt to the tool… It can be removed with heat and a scotch brite pad.

      I'm asking because i have 2 pelican 0450, i bought the foam and cut the shapes with a cutter and i don't like the result. It doesn't look good to me. Thanks for the answer.

    My fingertips get black stains from removing this foam. Is that normal? Says Fast Cap on box and bought from Rockler. Two days and still around finger tips, used Dawn and Fast Orange. Just curious as I never seen or heard it mentioned in any Kaizen foam video.

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  7 лет назад

      We want to provide whatever help or info we can but this is not an issue we have ever had before. Kaizen foam should not release any colorant that can stain fingers and we have not had any other customers raise this concern.
      What we think could cause this:
      People often outline their cut outs with permanent marker or sharpie. The kaizen foam repels liquids and often this ink can sit on the surface of the foam for quite some time. Do you think that black colorant could be marker from when the cut outs were drawn?
      The foam will repel liquids, were the tools you were storing coated in anything that might stain your fingertips like ink or oils?
      Has the foam been exposed to any chemicals? Has anything been spilled on the foam? It is closed cell foam but it could possibly react with something we are not aware of.
      Let me know if none of the above apply to you, or if you have any other information, photos, etc.

    • @SonataV-nl1td
      @SonataV-nl1td 7 лет назад

      No to all of those except I used a long nosed, thin marker. It might of have been from using a hot knife (set around medium heat) and then digging the foam out right after. Maybe the knife heated up the marker outline? I will be doing another case shortly and will see if it happens again, will record how I do it and reply back. Thanks.

      Good ideal. Keep us posted.

    • @SonataV-nl1td
      @SonataV-nl1td 7 лет назад

      Ok, yeah, it did it again. I started to cut the foam into sections to fit the case and noticed it lightly happening (I was not even digging into it, just cutting into squares and trimming the edges). I washed them then started to record, to show it happening. Here is some video (had to trim video to under 15 minutes).. ruclips.net/video/ZzDQhhOqlgs/видео.html

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  7 лет назад

      I cannot tell anything going on in that video. There is no sound, and I can’t really see what you are doing, it is too dark and the angle is bad. There are only two things I can think of that might cause this. 1) using a sharpie or marker to trace and got ink on your fingers. The foam will not absorb ink, it just beads on the surface of the foam. 2) using the hot knife to melt the foam, and got melted foam on your fingers. If you melt it, and touch it while it is still melted it might discolor fingers. Those are the only things I can think of that would cause this. None of the other employees here have ever had a complaint about the foam leaving coloring on fingertips. I personally have used and handled the foam countless times and it has never discolored my fingertips. That being said if you thinks the sheets are defective or if you are just not satisfied we can do a refund or replacement, that is no problem. Email thomas@fastcap.com

    That staged acting deserves a couple Razzies, i hope they make an overpriced kit to sculpt the foam to keep it in place...
