    I joined a lean company about a year back... my god it was so refreshing!. Instead of hearing "But that's the way we've always done it" when I'd say something about how a process could be improved. Instead the team leader would go get who was needed to make the improvement happen and MAKE it happen.

    Hi Paul. To get rid of the reverb in the conference room put some acoustic foam on the underside of the table. I also do a drop panel hanging from the ceiling above the table and put acoustic foam on top of that. Makes a big difference!

    Amazed by the tolls here making negative comments that have not accomplished anything approaching this themselves. Might listen if they have done something similar...maybe. So I just disregard and chalk it up to jealousy I guess. Nothing wrong with being proud of what you've accomplished. This is not easy to do. Well done and keep it up!

    You motivate me Paul...I was introduced to lean 10 years ago when I was fresh out of the Marines and working at a Toyota factory in long beach..it was love at first sight.. i read everything i could get my hands on about all aspects of lean from "just in time" ,"kanban" "tps" "5S" "the deadly wastes ...the list goes on.....its so inspirational to see someone combine the best of both worlds for me ( Lean and woodworking) ...woodworking is my therapy for dealing with the anxiety and depression from my PTSD...it does what no medication can ever do and takes my mind off all the unwanted memories of combat..it saved my life , so to pay it forward I created a workshop to introduce other veterans to woodworking..I try to apply Lean in every aspect of my life ...I love Fast Cap..Fast Cap looks to improve itsellf on a daily basis ..so the few negative comments about FastCap are just hating ..Fast Cap is at the top of there game ...Great staff as well ....LeAnne and Sandy are so so awesome . Sandy is truly the best she always replies to my emails promptly she is very helpful and professional ...she deserves a raise because she is a very hard worker.. Keep up the amazing work Paul.

    Idea: anyone taking a tool must leave an identifier in its location (such as a penny with their initials) so the whole plant does not shut down when a tool goes missing. 👍

    • @kchigley5309
      @kchigley5309 3 года назад

      A further step would be to have regularly needed tools in the place where they are needed, rather than a central location for tools that then travel to other locations. The money spent on having extra tools is easily recovered by the time saved in motion.

    Great video, the way it should be at any high end manufacturing facility. Smart, lean, super clean, safe and fun! before going on my own, I worked at a few places during my engineering, creative design, product development career, where lean environment was a must for efficiency. But nothing gets to that level without a leader that is lean himself or herself. My motto has always been "Nothing is impossible and everything is negotiable withing reason", but without good mental as well as physical health, it is difficult to achieve one's dreams.

    Always an inspiration for the north American manufacturing industry. Of course, there might be some errors now and then but nowhere else will you find an example of a group of people who are always willing to improve and become better. If 10 percent of our industry even aspired to the same level of excellence as FastCap, then we wouldn't need to elect politicians full of empty job promises. Love the chance to visit the factory virtually.

  • @michkelmariegaard1761
    @michkelmariegaard1761 7 лет назад +1

    As a student, this video provides some much-needed real life insight into how the theories of lean are applied.. Thank you for that!
    One question: From a volume-variety perspective, we're taught that manufacturers often benefit from standardizing components (at least from the manufacturer's point of view), as this allows higher production volume and, as such, lower cost price per unit. Of course, a lean, functional layout provides tons of flexibility which is very much a requirement in many markets, but do you have any experience trying to push towards some type of "mass customization"?

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  7 лет назад +2

      Michkel I wish I understood your question but I don't. But I will tell you is that our company is able to respond to Custom requests almost as quickly as our typical orders because we are both flexible and our processes are very well be refined. Generally speaking work is easy for us we don't struggle to do anything so when the custom order comes in one off or a requirement for 10,000 custom pieces our ability to respond is very fluid.
      Who is the important thing you must understand regardless of what you've been taught in school. Lean makes work easier for the people doing the work that is the only thing you need to focus on. When the work is easy the worker has time to do the job correctly and focus on quality. Work that is easy also allows you to do the work at a lower cost. In the end the customer we are all here to serve with us they get a higher quality product at a lower cost in a more timely fashion. The customers is pleased they return over and over again and the worker has security for the future. Just make your work easy and forget about everything else.

    Also it would be cool too follow an order from start to shipping.

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  7 лет назад

      Steve Good idea pretty simple to do the orders get typed up the office they go about 10 steps to the shipping department someone pulls the order walks down the grocery aisle picks the item rolled it in the cart to the shipping table and it's out the door generally well under one hour. First two hours of the day we have a large team of people building the product for the day in the build cells and then we start pulling orders.

    Lean taken to the extreme can reduce productivity and increase cost. This is where common sense and a balanced analysis of "cost of opportunity" can actually be more productive than the "extreme" lean examples. Time spent cleaning, arranging and rearranging by the mold injection engineer or wood processing instead of order fulfillment and use of the machine.

    • @FastCapLLC

    Not as good as the original but interesting all the same. I give you credit for limiting the number of visits. Lots of companies are eager to engage in "industrial tourism" but not lots of companies are willing to do the work to get where FastCap is.
    To anyone who might view this video and think, "Wow! I'd like to visit that operation to learn more!"...forget it. You learn all you need to know from this and the other FastCap videos. @FastCap this is certainly impressive in every single area seen here. Something tells me you are equally organized within your procedures & organization within the computers. Like many, our business is virtual/remote and we could really use some tips for such areas. Would you be willing to give a quick look at those?

    I think visualization is perfect, but I see there is overstock on the warehouse (WIP, finish good), there are over hand tools in every work cells. It would be better if you show some internal lean process and some kpi or ppi as turnover, capacity, oee, profit per emp, lead time, tact time. Where is a goal, where is an increasing sales, volume, efficiently? If it is as visualization for visualization there is not lean. I'm sure this building may be decrirse twise. Every one works standing up, but CEO has a chair.))

    LOVE everything except ....... Everyone makes mistakes from time to time ..... What is the logic to shame them in front of all their peers? - Interested in the logic there.

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  7 лет назад +1

      Why do you assume this is shaming them? We have the most mature culture you would ever experience. All of us including me readily admit our mistakes so we can learn from them. This is a different way of thinking and it does not make sense to most people. It's only shameful if you're not interested in learning. Paul

    • @fazmanicg
      @fazmanicg 7 лет назад +1

      I can't agree with you more on learning from mistakes. I admit fault all the time. - I guess I don't get what the individual has to do with the equation. - Why not have a board where you list the mistake, how it happened, how it was resolved and what to do to prevent it from happening again? - Doesn't that accomplish the same thing? - Please don't take this the wrong way. - I am a big fan of Lean and you are the King, no doubt. - I am always looking to understand and learn from others. Since I am a lot like you (Everything has a place, etc, etc), and if you saw my shop you would understand, I often hear that I am over the top OCD. How often do you hear that LOL?

    • @catgirlmt

      You could possible say that the board is the morning meeting :) I worked there for almost 10 years, and while the last thing I wanted to do was let down my coworkers and customers by making a mistake, I never felt shamed admitting my mistakes in front of everyone. It really was a very
      up-beat team environment and everyone was so willing to speak up to help figure things out in a positive way. Having everyone's ideas on how to improve a process to avoid a future mistake was pretty sweet!

    • @fazmanicg
      @fazmanicg 7 лет назад +1

      I get it. I have no doubts as to the working environment there .... So pissed I used the term "Shame". I really could have done a better job at that. Like I said ... I like to learn from things like this. I am a big fan of Fastcap products and order your products, either directly or from BPway or Amazon .... No doubt it is a great place to work.
