This really surprised me, someone working on a bench rather than the floor, a bloke in bed and another knocking one off in the background, all within the first minutes of the video.

Yup, seniority gets first dibs.......He's the "senior" mechanic, he has some benefit like a concrete floor, roof over his head and possible a stool to have his lunch. His knowledge pertaining 'turbo' repair, balance and set up is above par.

My turbo looked differen when it was reconditioned and it was on a test rig to balance and check oil flow and actuator over boost,did not notice these steps but better then doing it on a dry gravel floor.
Can’t test the actuator, because there isn’t one. This turbo is used with an external wastegate. But yeah, should’ve at least balanced it... 😬

To be honest I was surprised it got washed at all and that he used a bench rather than squatting in the dirt with the turbo sitting in the dirt. Better than most vids I have watched. That's all I'm going to praise though.

Nice informative video but the turbo charger was only serviced not rebuilding. Opened, serviced and re-packed. Nowhere torque spanner was used, cross tightening was not seen and the trials not conducted.
“Hit it with the steel hammer, don’t worry I see how they work their truck. If it’s not for this they’ll be back at the next door shop for some other things they broke” - this is job security folks. This is how it’s done.
Very good mechanic!: rest : turbibe balance , screw torque are only for " sweet guys ".

All these videos have guys working hard but there is always one guy in the background doing sweet fa the entire time.

No balancing? it'll last a month tops.
Plus, there is a constant theme here. Lack of cleanliness. Some of the "precision" items they make are laying around in dirt etc. So sure, they do a lot with very little. I respect that, but nothing they make will have any durability to it. That may be just fine for them though.

do you realize that such a rough job does not last long? If after 5000 miles it breaks down it has lasted too long
amazing way to waste time and effort maybe. that turbine is gonna spin at 100k rpms, and with all hand tools and nothing top spec that thing is gonna grenade and cause someone bigger problems. this is cancer.
Well that are the last about 20 miles.
What happened to balancing the shaft with the new turbine fan, thats the most important/crucial bit of a turbo that's why they spin the shaft and turbine fans up to a certain rpm see how much it out of balance then to balance it thay file abit off the fan blade in the correct place to balance it. Then repeat the process til it's within its tolerances it has to be within thm otherwise it will fail premature or if it bad enough within 5min of starting the engine it wil vibrate its self to bits. 💯💯💯💯👎👎

Looked to me like a holset turbo. They are component balanced instead of assembly balanced like Garrett. No need to rebalance after changing the compressor wheel unless the turbine wheel has any evidence of contact with the housing.

To all the balance comments. The blades appeared to have been replaced. I believe with this particular manufacturer of parts, they are component balanced, not balanced as a whole once together.
Really, the components and assembly should be balanced...

didn't even fix the thread! did not defect the turbine bushing axle, such repairs can be done by anyone who can screw the handle to the fence

The process here shows why the compressor wheel will strike the housing, I'm sure those gashes on the housing won't be an issue either
🤣 my mechanic that works on my turbo and supercharged engines has a workshop that's so clean you could eat a meal off his bench tops. If I was stranded in Pakistan and had to get home and I no longer needed the car I was driving, I may consider this guy to fix the car just to get me home 🤣

How many technicians do you think should work on a turbo? Visit a USA shop and you'll see 10 people changing a light bulb but they'll a have face shields, latex gloves under a pairr of other gloves, safety shoes, asbestos uniforms, a service manual and 3 others standing leaning on a tool box talking on their cell phone.in a heated shop with led lighting.
lies... the center never detaches from the exhaust housing that easily. There is about an hour required with a torch, penetrating lube, and brute force missing here.
Servicing not rebuilding..misleading title..
