I never write comments on youtube. But this documentary touched me in a very special way. When I was 18 I went to India. Somewhere in Rajasthan we stopped for one night in a small town in the desert I don't remember where, perhaps near Udaipur. It was late afternoon and I decided to go for a walk by myself. After some time 2 children started dragging me by my hand into a dusty abandoned area on the side of a busy highway. It was one of these camps just like in the video. I was a little uneasy because I thought I might be being lead to be mugged. But there was something so enchanting about the people I couldn't help but find out what was going to happen. They were the most amazing beautiful people I had ever seen, all in such colourful outfits. Finally they sat me on a wooden bed and told me to wait. A very old man in a huge turban came and did a puppet show for me with dozens of people surrounding me. It was very surreal and only to this day watching this video did i get the same sensation I had that day. Thank you for making such a truly amazing documentary.
Thank you for telling this story. It reminds me of eerie and unlikely things that happened to me too. Once a Gypsy played the Bach Chaconne on his violin for me, in an attic in Hamburg. Never forgot.
It was refreshing to find a documentary these days that don’t have the filmmaker making it all about him. Beautiful honorable work. Breathtaking and inspiring people.

I have seen a-lot of documentaries made on india, being indian myself, i dont think anyone has captured it more poetically than you my friend. Well done, the score, the visuals, your filter, the cinematography perspective. I think you've done a very special thing.
I had some bad experiences with indians that just made me sad ... it’s like your r not Indian you don’t count, I can’t even get myself to watch Bollywood any more, for some reason watching this helped cobra brought me here 😔
@@dannym6552 its possible that most ppl you interacted with, are seeiing a white dude for the first time and dont feel comfortable right away. As an indian who lived in AZ NY Australia, it happens everywhere. And thats allright.

This was a FANTASTIC film! I am pasty white Europeanized Roma Gypsy, and did not even know there were still Gypsies left in India, tho I knew the region they derived from. Thank you for showing me what my distant ancestors must have been like hundreds of years ago before they traveled through so many countries. Beautiful to see how these people look, dress, dance, and their ways of life. This was extremely enlightening, and I love how they welcomed, trusted and included you. Very brave and bold of you to have likewise trusted back, and taken this wonderful footage and stayed with these people. Both parties very open-minded and curious! Proud to be Roma!

WoW! I'm 71 yrs old & not easily impressed, entertained, amused or inspired. But this filmhad me in a near hypnotic trance from the start. The colors. The culture. The music. The cinematic captures. The Gypsies. I've been through a fascinating & near dizzying experience! Outro blew me away.....I'm going back in & doing this again. Thank you, Tarez this beauty of film!! New Subscriber! I feel a binge coming on......
I'm from the Himalayan region of India, and the culture here is just in such stark contrast to the one shown in the documentary! Even after being born and brought up in this beautiful country, it never ceases to amaze me. It sometimes makes me sad to think that I will never be able to experience ALL the cultures of India because of how short this lifetime is, but I hope that if there is an afterlife, I'll be born in India again! Thank you for showing a glimpse of a culture so well developed yet so completely hidden from others within the same boundaries! Jai Hind ❤️
Raphael, you have the gift of bringing out the beauty in people. Your subjects feel comfortable around you and then you manage to bring out their coolness...
As a Indian, I am very happy you visited us and made this documentary. What makes this film unique is you visited us without any prejudices and showed exactly how the tribes lives here. You should visit again soon
Third time watching this video over several years. My life with my husband is a comfortable one but yet i envy what they have as a community together. We have lost that in our western society. They seem to be truly happy. Thank you for your filming.
Travelled many parts of the world, Visited India 4 times and spent 87 days in total but still its unknown to me, Once you visit this land it mesmerizes you. Different cultures, Different food, Many Religions Different Faces, skin tones, Different clothes, Different traditions it almost impossible for an outsider to understand this land. Indeed its Exotic India. Loved your documentary Raphael

These people are BEAUTIFUL! Im a Mexican from Chicago and have never been outside of the country save for Mexico. Stumbled on this documentary randomly and couldn’t stop watching. So well done and interesting/inspiring. Thank you 🙏
I was going to say much the same - so many happy eyes! Unlike us with our stressed out 9-to-5 jobs. Admittedly we have a lot of technological luxuries because of those jobs but boy do we ever pay a spiritual price for them.
I'm Indian and I assure you that I have not seen this level of Filmmaking and especially the background folk pieces of music which you have used are remarkable. I want to remark one more thing they are the those who are keeping our culture and tradition alive in this so-called modern world as well. Hatts to this tribe and the Hatts off to Rajasthan. 👏
Yes Sir, the music used within this documentary is amazing! I have watched this countless times & every time i watch it, i dance. I love it & i love the Rajasthani Kalbeliya peoples. Their culture & way of life is priceless. My best wishes to you.
I enjoy this documentary every time I watch it. To think they are capable of finding joy in the simplest of things is amazing. They are role models for the rest of the world! This will always be my favorite.
Anyone who ever wants to make a documentary should be mandated to watch this one, and build off what they've learned from it. I've never been to India, but through the lenses of your camera, I've vicariously danced with gypsy nomads, made charcoal and sold it to a wholesaler, rocked babies to sleep in a scarf suspended by two sticks, and raced camels in a desert wasteland. In comparison, these nomadic folks who don't even have 2 nickels to rub together are far richer than I will ever be.
Amen to that Frank, I kept thinking about the joy in which they live and here I am in America living with all the luxuries I can possess wishing for a simple life like theirs, how ironic....
I can not fathom the quality of this amazing documentary. Quite possibly the BEST documentary I have ever seen or learnt anything about from any culture on Earth in a movie. The colors the vivid faces that can tell a million stories. You sir need to win some sort of Academy like award for your work. This should be shown in movie theaters!
thank you for your anderstening but we still dont know how we come in Europe and we have much teory for my pp hoo its eternal wanderer even there is a theory that we were Alexander the Great took his army because he was only sorry for the people of the desert that is now called a Gipsy or (ROMA). and to thank him, we went to war and conquer the world ... because we now have the world's 250 million gypsies, thank you for your interest in this documentary. my regards .. :)
You will find tens of millions of happy people. If you manage to cut the crap of what India is projected by motivated lobbies in the west, you will always find India as incredible and nothing like it ever anywhere. It takes 12 years minimum to explore major Indian culture, places, cuisines, arts, history, mysteries, wonders which can beat 7 wonders of the world and last but the best - Culture of universal consciousness. A ray of hope and a lost history full of wonders - right from a manuscript dated thousands of years back on how to build an airplane and fly to all the way to deep techniques of meditation and achieving the otherwise impossible unity with the universe through enlightment. Not the advertised theoretical absurd enlightment but the real one. You name it and you will find it.
This is also a sad docu . LooK at how you live and how they live. They are happy infront camera life but not in actual life. They just hide their personal problem behind closed doors just like the rest of the world.
@@zigs666 before that, look at how u see things. U seem to try hard to see negativity but can’t see the positive side that the above comment mentioned.
I’ve probably watched this documentary atleast 15 times. My daughter always wants to watch it before bed. Those are some of the most beautiful people on the entire planet! I can’t thank you enough for sharing this with all of us!!
First let me say, fantastic choices for music all the way around. Secondly, I never thought I would watch this and feel such a sense of longing for something I have never been further from. Everyone there expresses themselves without any fear of what others think and that is amazing. You'd never see people dance so much out in public, not to mention guys in groups like that. The earrings are amazing and pretty much everyone is pierced, with the mandalas. Gorgeous work all the way around, well done.
Exactly! I felt a part of it, like I was there! The way they look at you thru the camera blew me away! It felt like they could actually see me!! I really liked what you said about ... "longing". It really makes you feel like you want to be a part of their life. May God protect them and keep them safe.
Judson Owens Beautifully put Judson At the age of 62 do you think it's too late for me to get involved with these people and actually enjoy life for what it is
I am from Rajasthan, I knew about Kalbeliya tribe but not in such detail. Your documentary about them is amazing, mesmerizing. I enjoyed every second. Thank you man for this video. Love from Rajasthan
I don't know how many times I've watched this video , I keep coming back . The way it was documented it's very different and unusual I think that's why I keep coming back. The music and narration is on another level.
This has to be one of the most captivating documentaries that I have ever seen. The filmography and the sound track are free flowing and natural just like the people you are filming. You couldn't have done a better job! I am lookign forward to your next video as they are each video you make is better than the last! I also really enjoy that unlike a lot of "You Tubers" you focus on your subject and do not "star" in your videos. You are barely even in the video which in itself is humbling and I truly respect your style. Now the music... its on a different level of amazing. Just love all of it!!!
These tribes live around my colony as well, i see them regularly but this video made me realized how much happy they are even more than many city people
It is breathtaking .I watched this Documentary 3 times and it gives me a sense how beautiful humans are when they are not controlled by an evil mind controlling System that we have now in most of the world!Yes evil mind controlling that uses humans as parasitic hosts to suck the life out of them.Basically this describes life in the Western world that charges rent, tax and debt to enslaves the people and that destroys the Planet in the process. The ones that do that consider them-self superior but are in realitythe dumbest of the dumbest without any understanding and wisdom.
I lived in Madhya Pradesh, a state borders with Rajasthan. In my village there are 10-20 Kalbelya community house. They lived here since many years. Most of them are agricultural labourers and they come in our fields for work. A few of them still practice catching cobra. My father even borrowed a cobra from them when he was in college for annual function. They are very joyful people. This documentary depicts there life in very wonderful manner.
As an Indian born and brought up in a city like Delhi, I never knew about this community. Thank you for capturing it so beautifully. Makes me wonder, this is just one of the tribal cultures of one of the 29 states of India. Government recognises 705 different ethnic tribes 'officially'. I have SO much to explore in my own country.
The people, their cinnamon color; the colours around them, lifestyle and everything just got my attention. They look so happy, so full of energy. Raphael you’re gotten a super documentary and got to be the first among them. Wow! Congrats! What a masterpiece! Thank you.
I just happened across this and I feel so incredibly honored that I was able to take part in watching this masterpiece! What a beautiful people - inside and out. Thank you for making this for everyone to see. ❤️
Those looks only come from the fact that they don't interbreed with foreign peoples or people that are racially dissimilar to them. Due to their isolated location they have bred themselves to the Pinnacle of their genes outward characteristics. Probably also due to the fact that Gucci looks for people with those facial features.
This is my favourite documentary and I’ve watched it a few times. I love the music, the dancing, the colours, and how the people have such a direct gaze and confidence staring directly into the camera as if to say “here I am”. It’s so beautiful to watch people who have such a love for music and dancing and dance even while working, singing while just relaxing. They seem so joyful and content. Such beautiful people inside and out. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us. I wish you would do another one. I didn’t want this one to end.
Two things I've noticed while watching this. These are some of most beautiful people I've ever seen. The eyes of some of the woman are just mesmerizing. Then second thing I noticed is how happy they all are . They have the simplest life yet they are all happy and smiling. I wish I was that happy
I wholeheartedly agree!!! I have never seen a people so beautiful and happy!! Even the tribe that doesn’t bathe for religious reasons! Sure, their hair was dusty and bit matted but they still shined with a beautiful enthusiasm for life!! I am sure they have suffered tragedies in their lives just like everyone else but they don’t let that stop them from living!! Everything they do seems to be some sort of celebration of life, even their clothing! They are simply a stunning people and an excellent example that you don’t need a giant pile of money to live a rich, colorful, interesting and happy life!! Cheers
i was thinking all the same things...not only are they happy and beautiful, but there is such a great confidence in all of them. its like self consciousness doesnt exist in their culture.
@@billmurray1431 Thank you 🙏 Bill. I was stunned by this wonderful documentary! Knowing that a people like this exist in the world of today makes my heart smile and gives me hope maybe one day we can all have such a beautiful enthusiasm for life!! Cheers

Watching this made me feel things I can’t even describe. The portraits of these people, staring into their piercing, mesmerising eyes and faces through the lens is… breathtaking. I could watch this over and over. Absolutely stunning.
This was simply gorgeous!! The people, their spirit, their eyes, their faces and smiles.. The kids, the old people, the guys, the women... This docu. The camera work. The background music, your narration, the little details... I'm just stunned. Must have been an amazing experience to spend some months there. Thank you Raphael! 🥰
Why does this, for so many of the reasons you listed, reminds me of the 70s era hippie culture Americana. It has that same sentient Docu-News footage of that American era.
What an amazing and striking people. This is the India I want to visit. Wow! How amazing. People full of joy. Smiling... children dancing. Men being silly and women who are friendly and beautiful. My god. What did I find on YT today? Honestly... this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I am stunned.

@HEY HEY HEY because of the culture & history. Most Indians don’t care the huge amount of hate & false narratives that western press & some racists keep peddling all the time over decades. They instead just look at the shallow westerns who believe in such shit and assume things. This is just one example of why and how Indians can live in a totally different planet.
Raphael, this is by far the best ever documentary I have seen in my life. Your work is exemplary! I'm a fan of you sir! I was just browsing through videos but as I started watching this documentary, I got completely glued. Mesmerized! Thank you for bringing this wonderful documentary.

You’re so great. You don’t care about comfort, nor your social perceptions, you accept anything they do and are so open. That’s the reason your work is so great.
So much to say about this episode...the amount of joy and community in this the world could stand to take some notes. Thank you for taking the time to complete.

Well done Mr. Treza, you deserve an Oscar! Well done these amazing nomads, on achieving true happiness on their own terms. May you all thrive.
One of the many things that I find so striking about this people is how they seem to love to pose for the camera. Truly man. This is right up there with BBC and National Geographic, in some ways beyond and better. Absolutely professional. Beautiful. Entertaining. Educational, Enlightening. Wonderful. Thank-you. Beautiful culture, captured beautifully.
Absolutely an masterpiece, only speaks when it’s necessary and let's the video speak for itself whenever possible, every scene has a different music that perfectly fits the shown mood... and imagine all of this being done by a single man with no budget compared to mainstream tv, simply wow.
Thanks for the documentary (now 9 years old, wow). I believe I have seen almost all of South India where I live, then seeing this reminds me how large and diverse a country it is.
Their are two ways to look into life, like if BBC made this, it would be like they don't have concrete roof, unhygenic, proper sanitation etc, a materialistic view Whereas, Raphael interacted with them, understood them, there gestures, way of living, felt them with an an open mind. Great work dear !!
Nope!... I belong to tribal community of Jharkhand. Atleast basic things are necessary. Rest is okay. We people can live with those odd. We have our own majboories.
Human beings are so wonderful. Watching this I can see so much of the European Roma, you can really see this is where they came from. And they are just as anarchic and colourful! Let's all respect each other's beauty and protect each other's freedom. Great film.
Your points are irrelevant, especially because immigration has nothing to do with this. All humans deserve safety, decent living conditions and the right to practice their culture and be with their family - that's a basic agreement that civilised people have come to. Roma people are not separate from this. Quite honestly when people use the term 'integrated' for people who have abandoned their community and culture it sounds a lot like fascism.
I live in a neighbourhood in the UK where about 70% of the population are Muslims and the other 30% are Slovak Roma. Not saying everyone always gets on perfectly, but for the most part it works. We had a street party last week with games for the kids, I know nearly everyone in my street. My little stepson plays out every day and we don't worry about him. I know that people are just people, we have different cultures but most people in the end just want to be happy and have a peaceful life with their family. That understanding and being able to live in peace with other people as a result, brings happiness. What you are saying is all about fear of what you don't know. I don't live in a 'mono-cultural hellhole', whereas you probably do.
You're making a lot of assumptions here Fillip and misrepresenting what I said. I feel that I shouldn't be having this discussion because immigration has nothing to do with the video and I don't as a rule respond to this 'white power' drivel. However, your comments really made me think. I don't know what your history is like but this made me think of the way the Aboriginal peoples of Australia must have felt during the program by the white settlers to 'breed the blackness out of them'; a program which involved removal of children and the almost total destruction of an ancient race of people. That program only ended in the 1950s or 60s. However, that was a form of genocide which really happened. In fact when you look at history and the world today white Europeans control the majority of the world's resources and the power - we are the aggressors on the global stage not the victims. We aren't likely to see the 'breeding out' of the white race, but if it happens it will be because people fall in love and nature takes its course over the generations. It will be because of people coming together, not because of hate. Perhaps if we all end up one colour, although that would be sad as diversity is a great thing, it might stop people killing and hating each other so much? Peace.
Yup India and Hinduism as a culture is thousands of years old... its an ocean of mini cultures.. every state speaks a diff language.. dress differently.. eat differently.... India as a country is more Diverse than the entire Continent of Europe
This is one of the best documentaries i have ever seen and i have watched like 100s of them from those giants National geography, PBS, BBC and many more. The best part is that it is all an effort of a single man. The blend of knowledge with fun couldn't be more perfect. Your fan list has grown by at least one Raphael Treza. Great direction, narration and music choice. I could just go on and on..
Any other suggestions to watch? I am sort of new to documentaries. This one is special though. It may sound cliche, but this one has changed my whole perspective on life. I live in a country that does not even come close to the daily joy, work, and appreciation these people seem to have. It also has provided me with an appreciation/reality check of my own privileges that I have neglected to look further into to. Much respect and honor to all who were involved in this documentary for allowing us all to share part of your world and learn and grow through it. It may only be glimpses, but the spirit and soul was captured within it. A strong fun loving people. I hope to learn from more people like this group. Once again thanks to all who were involved.
+blahh blah very true. The daily joy in their lives was astonishing, when materialistically they virtually have nothing! Btw u mentioned u wanted documentary suggestions... Sebastian, same! Maybe every 6 months or so I re-watch. I love the colours, dancing and the constant smiling :) I guess when you have nearly nothing, you have more to be happier about!
Fantastic movie, I loved it and some parts actually made me cry. We here in the US have so much of everything right at out fingertips that the very thought of hardship or survival is unknown and seldom experienced. So much food, so much water and such thick forests yet human beings here in America still seem to resort to crime, to greed and to corruption. A simple lifestyle like this creates such beautiful people with so much happiness in their hearts and souls yet living with so little. With all due respect the term less is more is so very true and this movie hits that point home. Thank you for filming this and sharing it on You Tube. Martin Sleep

Beautiful. Well said.

This ,documentary, that you made, is a piece of ART. It should be taught in schools on how to make documentaries. Marvellous work man !!
Truly man. This is right up there with BBC and National Geographic, in some ways beyond and better. Absolutely professional. Beautiful. Entertaining. Educational, Enlightening. Wonderful. Thank-you. Beautiful culture, captured beautifully.
Yes! is great! Subscribe! :)
Bu that is a great idea! Marvellous learning format for bigger projects. I am going to try it out with my students. Thanks for your input Abhi!

Absolutely an masterpiece, only speaks when it’s necessary and let's the video speak for itself whenever possible, every scene has a different music that perfectly fits the shown mood... and imagine all of this being done by a single man with no budget compared to mainstream tv, simply wow.
Yes, this is the best documentary I have ever seen also. Absolutely beautiful.
:)
Soon missionary will come and convert them and destroy their identity. As they did with all tribe of india
Thanks for the documentary (now 9 years old, wow). I believe I have seen almost all of South India where I live, then seeing this reminds me how large and diverse a country it is.
All the smiles especially on the children brings joy to my heart!!
Their are two ways to look into life, like if BBC made this, it would be like they don't have concrete roof, unhygenic, proper sanitation etc, a materialistic view
Whereas,
Raphael interacted with them, understood them, there gestures, way of living, felt them with an an open mind.
Great work dear !!
Both aspects are equally necessary!
Best thing is , they are very happy with their life. 🤩😌
@@amalprabhatkujur9899 NO bbc only show negative side of india always
Nope!... I belong to tribal community of Jharkhand. Atleast basic things are necessary. Rest is okay. We people can live with those odd. We have our own majboories.
Can you live this kind of life deprived from lots my resources?
Hands down one of the best documentaries.. best mix of music and wonderful editing. Hats off Raphael..!
Aside from the profound documentary overall, the soundtrack was toe to toe with its an entire excellence 👏✨️🙌
They say that the eyes are a window into the soul, their intense eye contact with the camera is truly wonderful. Great piece of film work.
Human beings are so wonderful. Watching this I can see so much of the European Roma, you can really see this is where they came from. And they are just as anarchic and colourful! Let's all respect each other's beauty and protect each other's freedom. Great film.
Helen Alford Thank you for saying that. So many view my people as evil, not realizing the position they forced us into in the first place.
+Hitesh Soni thanks Hitesh :)
would be fun and interesting to go there and see how they live, traditions and religion.
Baap of all documentaries.. #RespectRaphael
worthwile 50 odd minutes
Depends what you want to watch, but overall i would suggest the following:
1. History documentary: the entire history of the world in 2 hours
2. Albino Africans Survival in Tanzania
3. Albert Einstein documentary (history channel)
4. Rumi documantary - english
5. A city divided: jerusalem's most contested neighbourhood
6. Any documentary/lecture by michio kaku
7. Pirates of silicon valley
Incroyable découverte, merci infiniment. Un peuple joyeux, de danses et de musiques, de couleurs aussi. Ils sont tellement beaux ! Admirative de leur respect pour les animaux. Merci Raphaël, magnifique reportage.

I am from Arunachal Pradesh, India,I dearly desire to visit Rajasthan but am sceptical about if I will be able to endure the heat 😀
I hope someday I will visit. And I really loved watching this video. They're always in a festive, celebration mood... laughing and dancing. Loved it ❤
I love this documentary every now and then i watch it, makes me feel human and the music is just awesome, please continue doing what you are doing!!
Raphael wish you the best From Montevideo, Uruguay
Thanks Sebastian
Sebastian, same! Maybe every 6 months or so I re-watch. I love the colours, dancing and the constant smiling :) I guess when you have nearly nothing, you have more to be happier about!
Gaz Colman Same here. It helps me to stay inspired and forget about all the mess we find ourselves in nowadays. Thank you Raphael Treza!! Blessings
:)
+Marti woodchip I was just thinkingabout some words to write down here.. But you said everything, guess better than i could have done it.. So i feel you mate :) Great inspiering documentary!

+Marti woodchip : its all go back to one's roots.
+Marti woodchip because they appreciate what they already have.
Fellow YT creator here. This is one of the finest Documentation I’ve seen. Totally fell in love with the people and the land. You deserve some serious acknowledgment for this one.
Congrats. Rare I watch something more than once. Cheers 🍻 my friend. Joel
these people are some of the most beautiful people on planet earth, not just handsome men and beautiful women, not just their personal style and fashion, but also their sweet smiles and warm humor.... the earth is blessed to have them on it. loved how often they goofed off while working, and played with their pets so gently. i can't believe an hour just flew by so quickly!
💗💗💗
@@kangnaa Why do you send a woman a heart? are you gay?
Not even a single sad face through out the documentary, they just earn for their living and leading a happiest and wonderful life on the earth !!!
I can see how the karma sutra came into existence 😏. One of those beautiful women dancing in front of you would be intoxicating . I am american , they remind me of the American version of hippies . But without all the stupid annoying political views that alot of these american hippies have . The gypsy life seems to look to me one of you live you love you dance you enjoy you die . T R U E freedom God bless you my friends 🙏
Wild, natural and romantic. Beautyful People! A wonderful Film. Thank you!
31:00 the arranged bride doesn't look too happy : (
Makes you wonder who’s better off here!
must have missed the marriage ceremony segment, lol
Awww! That was impeccable. Without any "luxury", everyone seemed so happy, smiling, dancing, and enjoying their lives beautifully. Great cinematography and narrating.
they live in extreme poverty do not be delusional
Fearless people.
@@paolaescobar304 But they are happy with their lives. We all are working in a job, to earn money, to buy stuffs, for what? To be happy. It is the only thing that matters.
For you, their lifestyle may not seem an enjoyable one. But remember for a billionaire or a celebrity, your lifestyle will be similar to theirs( tribes shown).
@@paolaescobar304 poverty is a concept that is relative to culture. The most important pursuit in life is happiness.
@@milkncookiegurl778 absolutely correct. You summed it all in a beautiful small sentence

P.S. apparently when you have the least in your life, you make the most of it!
well done man, beautiful combination of shots and music, I'm very impressed
When the beautiful woman said " This is my husband" you can see true love! Simple but pure! I hope to experience such a real love.💜

I'm in a blessed marriage- it's great!
That’s what i thought ...

What a wonderful documentary. I was impressed with the fact that you were able to find such a large group of people who had never seen a tourist before and how accepting they were of you. Your montages of faces are very compelling, your film is very informative yet has plenty of room to breathe. Superb photography and editing, well done, the best thing I've seen on RUclips in a very long time!

Raphael, this is a true gem you created here. I’m so glad I came across your documentary. It’s touching and such a beautiful vision. Love the cinematography and the music! Congrats. Much love ❤️
