- The third episode of this brand new series, GYPSIES NEXT DOOR, explores for the first time why the Gypsy and Traveller communities often struggle to live side by side.
English traveller Tony grew up on a traveller site with his family in Surrey but he’s dreaming of a new life for himself and his kids. He’s set up a new sunbed business with non traveller millionaire Colin and he wants to turn his life around and provide a home for his kids in his new chalet. But his neighbours don’t want him to erect it on land near their houses. All was going so well for him until he has a brush with the law.

As frustrating as traffic around the funeral must be I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to be respected known and loved by so many!
Its one day let them pay their respects and everything will be back to normally tomorrow also they gave the whole town the heads up its the same as rd work make different plans !!
That was my first thought as well. Had it been a townie, the papers would be shouting, "well-loved citizen has huge turnout to honor their life." Double-standards really get my knickers in a twist.🤯

Unfortunately too many (boys) because? they’re not men! walk away from their responsibilities as fathers to their own offspring. Maybe they’re all should learn safer sex and be man enough to take half the responsibility or put a rubber on it, why leave the full responsibility’s and women holding the baby and state bring up your children.
Because fathers are never held accountable. Everything is the mothers fault.
Also she's putting herself out there publically. It's human nature to blame a face they can identify before the ones they've not seen/ heard from.

Exactly! I got irked by that very word. It is a right thing to help a homeless woman with 6 kids, but calling it "entitled"?! Where is her gypsy family?

Im not sure what her situation was exactly; wether she was married at one point or not or how many baby daddies she has. Divorce and having children outside of marriage is frowned upon in traveller society.

@@nessagirl1911 Yeah I came here to say the same. Depending on her past circumstances they would never have helped her. Harsh to us, but standard for them and not exactly unheard of outside of their community either.
This was my first question. She's got family somewhere and the community could find a caravan somewhere, but I'm guessing she'd have to remove her kids from a school and finding other placements is a real issue in some counties.
This poor woman was raised to have no education & that she has no marry young & be a baby machine. Her husband left her & is in jail now. She is trying her best. People are so cruel.

I know he’s got a lot going on and these shows are pretty old, but I really hope for his own benefit he learns. He’s ambitious and has a lot of business and property issues he can really be taken advantage of if he can’t read contracts, banking information, leases, etc. I hope he’s doing well. 😊

I was thinking the exact same but it can't hurt to have a millionaire BFF, surely he helps him with things of that nature and I'm sure if he's that rich that he would help Tony any way he can\could as far as money wise. Yeah but it doesn't help that she was raised in a community where you're taught. You have to marry very young. Have no education and pop as many babies out as your husband puts in you and then to have that husband be a piece of garbage abandon you and end up in jail and leave you with seven children. What was she really supposed to do? It's not like she can get a job because she has no way to get child care. Not to mention she has zero education.
I have to admit Mikey’s celebration of life was filled with love and respect.
Margaret will keep having children, and she will keep blaming "the gorgers" very loudly, every time she is not given something for free. That man saying if it wasn't for her being a traveller, she would have been embraced as a poster child for the cause. Nope. She would be seen as an irresponsible mother no matter what her nationality or cultural background.

You are so right about this. People like her just take, take and take all the time i wonder how much tax she has pay in her life. I'm sure i know the answer non so why you expecting everyone else pay for your kids? by age 40 she will have 13 kids still not working and be a grandmother of 5 and she will still be complaining that she is not treated better and this will be not the end as she is teaching the kids to how to be a "Victim" whole your life. Start from paying in and then maybe just maybe after 20 years you can ask for something back....

I think the way they do funerals is beautiful such an amount of respect for the person who's passed its a couple of hours people need to get over it this person has died just let them celebrate one last time
actually as a funeral director I've done a few and I'm sorry they are arseholes they turn up at the chapel of rest pissed rude loud trying to lift the person up to hug them and it's not advised as things can happen and when you tell them they still try to lift them up , they leave cabs all over the grave yard trampling others graves swearing they show no respect at all your totally wrong there
@@user-wi6hh8lz6r I think you have to look at it a different way. It's not the way YOU would consider showing respect, but other cultures show grief and celebrate a life differently. I agree, showing up pissed and loud is not typically considered civilised, but we are talking about a group of people with a different culture.
yeah we should all be doing this. Funerals like this in front of YOUR house every day (you seem to love the idea so much). Let's respect OUR loved ones and piss off everyone around us. What a great idea, we should learn from them.... And if you get tired of it, just remember, a couple of hours in front of your house is nothing. Just get over it.
It's like when you get married to anyone from another culture--you either adapt to their culture or they have to adapt to yours. Most Gypsies are deeply rooted in their culture so if you're marrying into, you better adapt and overcome. I grew up in an Italian family; men have their role as provider, women have their role as wife, mother and housekeeper. They dress a certain way, celebrate holidays a certain way and eat mostly Italian meals. They also believe in bigger and blingier. I can so relate to how Gypsy families live.

Contraception is free in the UK so I’m not sure what the issue is with getting some. It doesn’t cost a penny under the NHS. Of course everyone has the right to have children, but if you’re in a position where you can’t look after them, it’s just selfish and unfair for the children.

it's possible she was absolutely able to provide before. her situation could be due to the death of a partner, loss of a job, etc. what's unfair and selfish is you judging someone's situation without having any information about it.

So many people on here praising the mother with 7 kids. However statistically those children will grow up to live a life of extreme poverty and criminality themselves. People like her need education from the beginning. She looks like she had her first child when she was a teenager. That’s when the education of responsible parenting should have taken place.

These encampments have leaders who call the shots and direct the actions of the group. Townspeople must identify them and deal with them directly in order to establish a line of communication! As for Margaret and those like her, her case flies in the face of the claim of Travelers "taking care of their own." What happened to family ties and the communal caring they normally have for each other? 16 Rolls Royces for a funeral, but no funds for a Gypsy family with a single Mom and 7 children?
100% spot on. I suspect she's been offered accommodation, but I bet she wants more than 3 or 4 bedrooms and wants this mansion in her chosen area, so keeps turning them down.

No focus is put on the fact that travellers have the highest rate of Domestic Violence amongst any community of people or the high rate of sexual abuse of traveller children.

Shows like this glamorise the lifestyle, but you can't hide from facts. Even in this show, it demonstrates driving with no insurance or even a licence. Acting dangerous on roads and putting innocent animals and peoples lives in danger.
You don't even have toilets in your caravans, hence why your kids sh*t in peoples porches, public lifts, on the street. The highest rate of domestic violence, the sexual abuse, lack of education etc etc. You say you respect your elders and look up to them, yet you all swear on your dead relatives' lives, which demonstrates you have no respect for them at all.
I speak from first-hand experience of the travelling community.
As for jealousy, yeah, everyday I wish I could get beaten up by my husband and spend all day cleaning a caravan and looking after 20 kids!!!
His life was cut short. He made a lot of friends in his SHORT life. Must’ve been a very special person💗
I mean, all over the west....housing costs, food, costs of living in general are though the roof! I think we are all going to see more and more people adopting this kind of life style in the very near future.
Yeah, we've had homeless encampments bull dozed in our area after they received permission to camp in those areas. Just kind of kicks people when they are down and doesn't lend themselves to follow rules like asking in the future.

Here in my area, when I know we will be having a large funeral we call the police and they'll set up a road block for us.

They do road blocks here too, but not typically traffic control.
Nobody wants to see criminal activity, rubbish and damage on public parks etc. But if councils don't provide dedicated camp sites, they will continue parking up illegally.. There's no point complaining if they don't offer a suitable alternative, it's just Commonsense!
Lots of councils supply traveller sites , but the trash them ,stealing the copper and brass
Slovakia's government gave gypsies housing and they turned it into a ghetto (Lunik 9). They are now demanding new housing because what they were given is unsafe after they ruined it. European gypsies came over from India and many countries were trying to help them but giving them free stuff doesn't work. They have no respect. This type of lifestyle should not be supported by giving away housing/free money. It only creates more problems and an entire generation of entitled people
That's crazy i know the travler Margaret from Dublin we lived in homeless accommodation together that's mad i remember her doing this protest in dublin its actually mad shes on this programme this must be years ago because she was finally housed after all those years of fighting

I’ll never understand having children that you can’t afford. My husband and I both work and it’s not easy to give our one son everything we want to. I can’t imagine being delusional enough to think I could provide for seven by myself. I’m honestly shocked that she still has custody of her kids. I know that sounds harsh but my biological mother placed me for adoption because of her young age and financial difficulties and that’s the most selfless thing she could have done so I probably see it a little differently.

It’s a perfect example of why some people are so uninformed, because you didn’t take the extra four seconds to actually take in my comment and instead rushed to respond. My son was diagnosed with type B acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was three, had to endure three years of chemotherapy and now is nine and 2 years of complete remission. So if I could give him the world I absolutely would.

What an incredibly strong woman Margaret is to keep fighting to provide for her children and herself, it must be exhausting to keep going, whilst also providing continuity for her children by keeping them in their schools where their happy. Margaret is right everyone deserves a place to live they however are not entitled to a free place to live. That is not how life works and unfortunately because of how they behave no one wants to have anything to do with them and so the gypsies play the poor me card where everyone else caused her situation. The cause of her issues is her not keeping her legs closed and not using protection.

It's awe-inspiring how they pay their respects. It's also no wonder they travel how they do when so much hatred is thrown towards them. I would happily join the travelling community, especially how the government treats its citizens.

Oh. And P. S. All of these boroughs are having this problem on public lands that the council controls right? And all of these towns are spending millions of pounds on repair, clean up and then expense to protect those areas after the fact with rails, etc. Why don’t they take a portion of the public land and make areas specifically set aside for travellers passing through the areas in their travels? Provide places for them to throw away their garbage? Yes there will always be a mess to clean up, but maybe it wouldn’t be as widespread and slightly less invasive to the neighborhood and residents. Something has to give. There has to be a solution. Either give up some parcels of land to accommodate their culture or continue to force them to stop wherever they can. At least implement a test of the feasibility in the most affected communities and go from there. Ugh. Smart people don’t see the obvious and overthink everything. Simplify your thinking process and think outside of your normal way of thinking because that’s obviously not working for you… I see the anger and frustration of both sides.
If so, it shouldn’t be for free. A minimal fee and rules/ guidelines should be set. Why should one group get free living and the rest pay. Theres going to be costs…….maintenance and needs. Maybe set up camp areas for travelers only. There needs to be responsibility set for the travelers to stay there.
That's what we have lots of around where I live (North West England). In Halton we have a traveller site, which is a patch of land with some fields and very basic ameneties that travellers can set up by and use. As I understand it, because that site is there then by law a certain number of travellers have to be allowed to use it, and also by law any travellers trying to set up their home in any other locations in Halton have to move on. It seems to work very well, in that locals know they can't complain to anybody if travellers turn up at the traveller site, and travellers know they can't complain to anybody if they get kicked out of sites that aren't the traveller site.
They make a rod for their own back leaving so much rubbish etc where they camp. If doesn’t take a college education to know that it better to leave somewhere like you found it.
I was thinking about that as well. Other commenters have said what great housekeepers they are. Maybe if they were as diligent about the space they parked on it might not be such a problem. I don’t think I would want them around either if they don’t treat the space with respect.

I know ppl with one child that come from good lives that are so lazy compared to what that woman does for her children. All those kids are going to grow up and treat her like a queen one day. The thing she has on her side is her youth to be able to take care of so many young children.

I always wanted to run away and join the gypsies 😍The corner bar in the old neighborhood had a room rented out for wedding parties and while I, as a child, sat at the bar drinking Shirley Temples I longed to go where the gypsies were dancing and playing music in their colorful clothes...but I only was able to peek in occasionally. When the patriarch of the family came out and asked what I wanted to drink I said I loved the cherries 🍒 in the drink but they only put 1 or 2.The dear man ordered me a drink "filled with cherries" because cherries were the spice of life. All that and a bag of chips 😋 Every Halloween I was a gypsy in my admiration of them. And cherries are still my favorite. This was over 60 years ago, isn't it funny what stays with you? I'd like to think I have some gypsy blood too 🙏🏼💞🛐 🤗 💃🏻

And those kids are so badly behaved it's insane. I cannot stand mothers who let their children act like that and I cannot stand the children because of how act! Literally all of her children running away from her at any given time even to the point that one of the younger ones in the stroller climbs out and takes off and takes off down the street running as fast as he possibly could away from her as she's was screaming and chasing after him leaving her youngest baby ALONE in the stroller to do so! That kid would have gotten an absolutely total attitude changing spanking I can tell you that. If she doesn't get those kids in check now than the world's going to have to handle it when they get older and it'll be her fault!

As climate change intensifies, encampments will become much more frequent and it won't just be Travelers. There is already a huge homelessness crisis everywhere. I'm in Portland, Oregon, U.S. There are illegal encampments all over the city. There are shanties and all manor of u housed living arrangements everywhere. It gets worse by the year. I've been homeless before. It's scary and it's ridiculous that in this age, all of the world's problems could be lessened or solved if it weren't for greedy, greedy people.

So in the USA we have rv camps that are set up for these little campers. They can pay by the day/week/month. With showers, restrooms, laundry and even swimming pools. Fairly cheap depending on the area. Around my city for as little as 12 dollars a night with sewer and water. Dose the UK not have anything like that? Someone could make a killing doing something like the KOA we have here.

We have travellers turn up St our local parks and they drive the perimeter on quad bikes with guns to keep people out but if ya leave them alone they leave after a few weeks.... some of them do act badly and give them all a bad name which is not fair but its the way it is
