  • I had really high hopes for this slick looking DeWALT, alas it wasn't meant to be.....Just too many cons to recommend IMHO!
    #dewalt #lawnmower #projectsforall #toolreviews
    The GOOD:
    1. Excellent cut quality!
    2. Long run time. Battery to spare after 1/3 acre.
    3. Power boost on thicker grass works seamlessly and when needed.
    4. Low Profile and stores upright is small space.
    5. Mulch and Bag functions work as expected.
    The BAD:
    1. Possibly defective electric motor still engaged in Reverse.
    2. Self propelled levers small and hard plastic. Sore thumbs 2 wks in a row.
    3. All or Nothing throttle makes for jerky, unpleasant operating experience.
    4. Speed control small and hard to operate when moving.
NITPICKS, Not Mentioned In The Vid:
    1. Rattles like crazy, can be heard throughout the video.
    2. Motor lockout when bale wire released for a sec or motor dies.

I am grateful for your work. I have a small yard with many obstacles requiring pulling back, so I was disappointed to see that they didn't get that right. The hand discomfort shows that their beta testing was absent. I'm a DeWalt fan so perhaps they'll go back to the drawing board and I'll reconsider. I'll watch other videos to see what the deck is made of, how much it weighs, how easy it is to adjust the height of cut, etc. I'm 79 and I want something self-propelled but also lightweight because my Honda-powered MTD without self-propel is a chore.

First thanks for the video. I bought a Dewalt self-propelled mower 2 and 1/2 years ago for $700. My lawn terrain is about the same as yours. I was quite satisfied until the flimsy propel hand controls started sticking. This spring one of the batteries would only charge up to 2 bars of 3. I ordered 2 new 20v 60v Flex Dewalt batteries at the cost of $300 each. I installed the new batteries and used it to cut 1/2 of my small yard when it started raining. I stopped cutting and put the mower under the carport. 2 days later I checked the batteries and had only one bar showing so I charged them. When the charger showed a solid light one battery showed 3 bars indicating full charge the other only showed 2 bars. I took the old battery that had 3 bars and took the new one with 3 bars and put them in the mower. I pulled it out in the yard and got ready to start it and nothing. The mower was dead. I watched several other YT videos on this type mower failure and saw that the pulley that drives the blade was plastic and had melted causing the blade drive belt to come off which I think may have happened to my mower. Before buying watch some repair videos on this mower which is manufactured by Stanley / Black and Becker since they acquired the Dewalt name, The only authorized Dewalt repair center is about 100 miles from me. In conclusion, I took the batteries back and used the refund to Buy a Honda mower for the same price of the 2 batteries. Never again will I buy a Dewalt product or a battery mower.

Their are plenty of battery mowers that work well and do not have chronic issues. I prefer the quieter operation of electric tools, the ease of use and maintaining. Also, something to consider is that the typical 2 stroke motors used in tools are ultra polluting. I own a bunch of budget friendly sun Joe machines and they have worked flawlessly for years.

    SO.. I own this Mower
I think first off you are cutting too fast. 5 6 7 is almost a trot there isn’t a gas mower that I know of that runs that fast well.. Maybe a Dixie Chopper but this is a walk behind not a run behind
Plenty of power too . And trying to mulch 8 to 10 inches of grass? A bit much for any mower also. Mine will throw wet grass to the back of the bag consistently. As far as the drive motor disengaging, let off on the trigger a touch early and it works every time. Higher drive speeds are for the trot back to the garage cut at about 2.

Very interesting. You just saved me $900 CDN. I looked askance at all those handles and things in HD and thought about how you could get around them. Very light and rattle prone as others commented. The back and forth motor disengagement problem would be huge in my situation and that's a lot about what this mower is for - small areas. The belt drive sealed the deal. Idiotic. No way, DW.

I recently made the mistake of buying an Ego lawn mower. Its far from good, its marginal at best and the plastic construction is not going to fare well with my rough yard. Stuck with this mower now that I really don't use.
The buttons for the self propel on the Ego are terrible, slight bump, hand comes off for a second and you stop. The self propel doesn't release when you let off either, so you have to push the mower forward in order for it to disengage, kind of annoying. My Ego randomly shuts itself off as well without any warning, or error lights....the self propel randomly stops working too. For a $600+ mower I expected better, a lot better. Back to the gas lawn mower, Ego, another over-rated brand of mower. The OEM blade on it sucks too, barely any lift, marginal cut quality, and didn't mulch well. I put a universal 3 in 1 blade on it and it did much better. The motor is supposed to be torque sensitive as well and automatically adjust to conditions...it does but its so slow at it, that the thing will stall before it ramps up the speed, or it ramps the speed up after you have already passed the area where the extra speed was needed. Don't recommend the Ego, people swear by them but I'm not impressed at all.

Haven’t tried one yet but could be the DeWALTs replacement! Thanks for watching!

@@ProjectsForAllReviews I bought my Ego refurbished from Home Depot about 5 years ago (before Bidenflation) and it included the battery for about $300. Still runs great despite all the stumps and rocks I hit at my new house. I also bought a refurbished blower and weed wacker that came with batteries and they are all still going strong. If you can find factory refurbished products from ego, they are a great deal. It would cost more to buy a new battery for my mower than I paid for the battery and mower.
