    I too just bought the propelled version and looked for video because I couldn't find the booklet and of course, when I saw you open your battery compartment, I started laughing. So far, I enjoy mine and hope you do as well. Thanks for the great video.

    I wonder why they think it needs two chargers. Only having one charger was an obvious oversight for the first gen 2x 20V Max mower since it required two batteries. They rectified that with the second and third gen 2x 20V Max mowers, but the FlexVolt mower never needed that since you can charge one while you use the other.

    • @ThePatchworkPlot

      They probably cost less than $10 to make would be my guess. I've now seen these DCB1104 charges sell for as little as $25 on sale occasionally at places like Woot.

    Nice review. I just got the 60v self propelled version and am very happy so far. I have to agree that it’s light enough that the self propel is more or less unnecessary. I didn’t realize that the push version came with 2x 9ah batteries instead of the 2x 12ah that mine came with. Either way, I’ve been using my existing 9ah batteries to mow and find the runtime sufficient. I have 5 of them and it takes roughly 1 1/2 to mow either my front or back yard, so I’d still be good even if I did the whole property in one go, including use of my Flexvolt string trimmer and leaf blower. I’ll likely sell the as of yet unused 12ah ones it came with.

      Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean about too many batteries. These are our first Flexvolt batteries, but for 20V tools I'm always trying to find bare tools or open box/slightly used ones instead of buying the kits to not end up with a bunch of extra small batteries and chargers that I don't need.

    The reason it doesn’t need two batteries is because it’s already running at the higher voltage of 60v… The two x 20v mower runs at 40v, but half the amps. So two 20v 10amp batteries gives you 40v at 5amps. Double the voltage, you half the amps. So the 60v 12ah is running at the full 60v and will have the full 12ah capacity at that voltage.

    • @terryshea31
      @terryshea31 Месяц назад

      DeWalt rate the 60V batteries' Ah rating based on 20V tools.
      -A 60-volt 12Ah battery is actually 60 volts at 4Ah. A true 60-volt 12Ah battery would be three times larger (sleazy marketing).
      -Those two 20V 10Ah batteries would be 40V at 10Ah, not 5Ah.
      Side note; two 20-volt batteries have almost double the capacity of a single 60-volt battery.

      I've just been blowing it off every few uses with an electric blower to get the dusty dirt off, but haven't had to clean it with water yet. I wouldn't recommend hosing it since the battery compartment is not sealed. It's just plastic on plastic with no rubber gasket.

  • @bossmanz28
    @bossmanz28 6 месяцев назад +3

    The "20v" version takes 2 because it is technically 40v. They call it 20v x2. Will not work off 1. They should have made it tho be able to take both batteries at once but not required. Extend runtime without stopping to change battery. They did it for the snowblower but not this. Doesnt make sense

    • @ThePatchworkPlot
      @ThePatchworkPlot  5 месяцев назад

      Gotcha, I looked into that after recording the video. Does the snowblower draw power from both 60V at the same time or does it drain one first and then start using the second battery?

    • @philipjohn4149
      @philipjohn4149 5 месяцев назад

      A snowblower requires much more torque. The ego 60 v can run off 1 or 2. The second on is only used for peak amp draw. Dewalt may have done this incase some slides a 3 amph battery in. This is still not a parallel set up... where better to have same battery size in.

  • @emmettturner9452
    @emmettturner9452 3 месяца назад

    There is no 20 volt version. The reason they refer to it as “2x 20V Max” is because it’s really 36v nominal (40v max). Unlike the 40v Ryobi mower and yard equipment, this one takes the standard 18v (20V Max) tool batteries and doubles them up. They never would’ve made a true 18v/20V Max mower because that simply isn’t enough. 36v is barely enough. 56v/60V Max is enough for many more, but there’s a reason other brands that don’t start with a power tool battery have even higher voltage lines, like 80v.

    • @rickcastillo78
      @rickcastillo78 Месяц назад

      They actually do make a 20volt (18v) it was one of my 1st electric mowers. Yes it does come with a dual compartment, and you insert two batteries, but thats so you don't have to be changing them as often. After the 1st battery depletes, the second battery takes over. And no, you don't have to insert both batteries. You can use it with just one if you prefer, but it would have to be a certain side, I don't remember if it was the left or right. I eventually moved into Green works, and just recently upgraded all my equipment to the Green works 82volt commercial line

    • @emmettturner9452
      @emmettturner9452 Месяц назад +1

      The Ryobi mowers work like that with two 40v batteries and a key/switch to switch between them. I had to borrow my landlord’s Ryobi when my DeWALT mowers all crapped out on me. There is no DeWALT 20V Max mower like that though.
      The first gen 20V Max mower used a belt to drive the blade off the electric motor and needed two 20V Max batteries in a 36v configuration. The second gen was the exact same except they switched to direct drive (blade directly turned by the electric motor with no belt). The third gen just came out along with the first fen FlexVolt model and has the new four blade design. It still requires 2x 20V Max batteries.
      The new FlexVolt model only needs one battery but it is technically 54v/60V Max, not 18v/20V Max.
      There is a Ryobi model that includes four 18v batteries but it should be doubling them up to match the 40v model.

  • @plmn93
    @plmn93 4 месяца назад

    That looks really bad along the driveway. I am guessing that shallow deck just can't handle long grass very well. There's a reason nobody else does that. Deeper decks generate more lift to stand up the grass. And you can have one battery in at a time? I don't understand what DeWalt is thinking.

    Nice. The 20v x 2 combo parellel format..has 2 to get 40 v for 10 amph if it still comes with the 10. Parallel is always half of the 2 amp hours.
    Yours should be far superior at 60v brushless motor and 9 amph. Much better with power and heat control.. the flex 60 might be the best battery ever made. Just stop using when low. Never keep draining
    Dewalt snowblower is 2 in a combo in a series form... so also 60v. It always needs 2 to run i heard..

    • @ThePatchworkPlot

      Yeah I quite like the Flexvolt system. We have the 17" DCST972 string trimmer now, along with the DCBL772 blower, and the DCCS677 20" chainsaw. I built a DIY 12.6AH Flexvolt battery as well last month by buying one of the replacement shells/control boards you can get and 15 Molicell P42A cells. It cost less than $100, when a real one is $200 plus and works great. The 12.6AH DIY battery stays in the mower, and the 9AH batteries that came with the mower stay on the string trimmer and the blower.
