  • Windows 11 is here, but you'll have to go through some steps to get it now. I also encountered a couple of problems that I had to get around too.
    Download the update software here:
    www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...
    This isn't a review of Windows 11. Just how to install and get it working. AMD has said Ryzen processors may lose a bit of performance in Windows 11 until a fix comes, but I haven't tested for that.
    I have the 3060 model of G15 with Ryzen 5800H and the 165hz screen.

    amd suggested not doing it for now tho, since the windows 11 is not yet optimized for the ryzen processors, they're working on an update

      Yup, I wrote that in the description so hopefully people see before upgrading. This video did feel like it rendered slower than normal so that update better come out soon.

    Seems MS officially released the OS build 282 update which fixes the issues on AMD CPUs. I found a video that there are significant boost in gaming performance on the 282 (he was on Beta that time). Hope you can make an official video on that. Have you tried the new updates? I believe it was officially released last October 21. I'm hesitating to upgrade to W11 since I can't find any video to support the supposedly "official" update. Thanks again man!

      Thanks for the video suggestion. I got the update too. Feels just a bit snappier in Windows but I'll test it with some games and benchmarks and see if it's worthwhile. It's nice they got an update out so quickly though.

    I recently purchased this laptop direct from Dell here in Australia.. With the 5800H and 130w 3060 RTX. It has amazing performance for the price and is a really nice looking laptop. I upgraded to Windows 11 and was having a few issues e.g. a long delay when right clicking on the desktop etc. So I bit the bullet and did a clean install and Windows 11 now works flawlessly on it, just make sure you disable VBS as it is enabled by default on a clean install and gaming laptops are supposed to come with it disabled from factory I have read.. I hope they sort out the AMD performance issue soon, though i've not really noticed any performance issues myself.

      Thanks for letting me about the VBS thing. I didn’t know about it. From my light benchmark testing and watching some other videos on it the Windows 11 performance hit doesn’t seem as much as some headlines seem to claim.
      So far besides some small bugs Windows 11 seems to be pretty stable and I’m enjoying the little QOL improvements.

      @@Loaded0 No worries at all and yes Windows 11 is a great OS so far, with a much needed GUI update that looks very nice... The VBS things does cause up to 17% performance hit in some games.. there is a RUclipsr Jarrod tech who has a video showing the hit VBS causes to certain games.. and VBS is to be enabled by default on all new laptops/desktops but Microsoft have agreed with the manufacturers of gaming laptops to disable it before shipping is what I've read in am article about it.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад +1

      I did skim through Jarrod’s video the other day and yeah it seems to depend on the game with most less than 10% difference. His test machine was an Intel system though.
      So it’s kind of interesting because AMD’s statement on a performance dip was not based on VBS. I think I’m going to wait for the fix that they promised and then see how VBS changes things.

      Do I have to Disable VBS still I mean did they patch it or should Disable still?

    Thanks for the video..one question, after fresh install, how will it recognise the windows key? Do we need to log in with the old Microsoft account? Or it is associated with laptop motherboard?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      You’ll need both. The login for your Microsoft account should have the digital license from Windows 10, and it’ll recognize the laptop from the motherboard to upgrade you to the Windows 11 license after you login.

    How are the temps now with the new bios update and is it still frying the cpu?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      The fans turn on a bit earlier to keep the temps lower on normal workloads, but the max temp hasn’t changed. If temps bother you, probably should stay away from Dell or Alienware in general.

    Do I have to upgrade first to Windows 11 before installing it fresh or can I directly make my USB Drive for the fresh install. Or is the upgrade process part of the licence update/upgrade of the existing Windows 10 licence to a Windows 11 one?
    But at the same time if I upgrade and then reset the pc and delete all Data (because I save the Data on a external drive) there shouldnt be any Win 10 Data left, am I right?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      You can do the fresh install without upgrading and it *should* activate with no problems according to Microsoft if the hardware had a valid Windows 10 license linked to your account.
      Upgrading is a safer way to make sure you get the digital license though. A reset through Windows 11 might not be the same as a fresh install though as it can reinstall the bloatware that came with the laptop originally.

      @@Loaded0 Thanks for the answer.
      But if I reset my PC and its a Custom build one by myself then there shouldnt be any bloadware and it should be the same like a fresh install or am I wrong?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      Yeah, should be the same as a fresh install in that case.

    If i install Windows 11 clean will the alienware command center be or will my G Mode work or do I have install from dell site or is it insatalled in windows update Please Reply
    Also currently if don't open alenware command center on startup my gpu just won't go farther than 30 watt even after enabling the G Mode I have to start the app first then it feed more wattage dell should fix that and make alienware services from the startup

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад +2

      You’ll have to get the newest ACC from the Dell website after the clean install. ACC does startup automatically in the background after booting, but it does take a little while.

  • @jamesscott849

    I've done a Windows 11 install as well on my G15 Ryzen , is there a way to still use the 'G' boost button? I'd like to max the fan speed while gaming.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад +1

      Yes, it still works on my mine. Make sure your Alienware Command Center is installed correctly and updated.
      Also, the G key doesn’t work right after booting into Windows because ACC seems to take a few minutes to startup in the background. You can speed that up by opening the app yourself. It’ll still take a minute but works faster than letting it background load.

      No, I changed them out to a set of HyperX CL20 ram. It did improve things over the stock a little bit when I tested it a couple months ago.

      @@Loaded0 I am planning to buy the Dell g15 rtx 3050 ryzen 5 5600H version . It doesn't have a mux switch, so how much does that affect games? Is it a bad idea? And it does have 2 ram slots right?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      It should have two ram slots. A mux switch is really more helpful for the more powerful GPUs and it probably won't make much of a difference for the 3050. Probably why they didn't add it for the 3050 models. Just have realistic expectations on what a 3050 can do. It's great for indie games, eSports games and creators. It's not going to play AAA games like what are on current consoles well.

    I've read there are issues with Intel WiFi cards so not sure this is recommended for any model of the G15 just yet tbh

      So far no problem with the Killer wifi model in my G15. Still downloads at the upper limits of my 100mbps speed. Interesting thing I noticed, besides the sound driver not installing, Windows Update installed the same versions of drivers Dell has on their support page for this laptop.
      One annoying thing is Steam doesn’t like to start sometimes. When that happens I run it in Administrator mode and it works again.
