I really enjoyed that tutorial! Just found you. I have a bag of porcelain that has been waiting for me to get brave. This sounds like a great start. Thank you so much! 🙏
Wow, what a great video and super nice family christian guy! Just found the channel and Ill be back in the hopes that there will be more videos. Thank you for sharing your passion and tricks of the trade.
Thank you so much for this video (and all the others!). You are great at explaining and generous in your sharing :). I am a newbie potter and I am thinking of selling my plates on Amazon. You mention that you had some tips on this and I would be really grateful to hear them (newbie at selling too!). Thank you! Allison
Hey Allison. Thanks for asking this. Amazon is a beast. I love it and hate it. My friend Anugrah and I are going to do a few videos that may become a series on selling on amazon. It's not my favorite but it is 50% of all online sales so... what can you do :). Be looking out for a few videos from us on this subject. -mj
You’re quite awesome MJ. Thanks for the videos. They’re so informative. I live in The Netherlands at the moment and have been making small ornaments here. Your video showed me a lot of ways I can make them better.
In stead of stacking them in the kiln you can put them on their side, so vertically. Just like plates are fired on their rim. That way each ornament only has the weight of its own, not extra from other ornaments on top of it. That is they way i always bisque fire flat things.
Thanks for showing us your pottery tips! We are 11 year practicing Oregon potters and learned some fantastic tips! My hubby is curious about the little squares that are on the top of your shelves. What are they? Thanks!
Stumbled on this today and really enjoyed it. Where can I get the round circle cutters and stamps? I looked at all your links in the description but didn't see them unless I just missed it
I'm sorry Mary. I never posted them. I'm printing some right now and will try to create an item on my website in the next few days. check out outpostpottery.com in the near future.
Can you do more than one slab at a time with a slab roller? If you space a couple of them apart seems like you could cut even more time by doing a couple at once
Thank you so much for this. I will use your link to get a couple of things I need for ornaments next year. I noticed you referenced Laguna Bmix 5. Is that porcelain clay? Thank you!- PJ
Hey PJ. I think for practical purposes it IS a porcelain. I've heard it described as a synthetic porcelain. it doesn't have any grog in it - those tiny particles of already fired clay that helps your wheel work get more vertical height/strength. Those can show up and mar the surface when you're doing work like these ornaments. Hey I'm glad this is helpful to you! Ask me anything else you need. -mj
I don't yet. I'll put it on the docket. I certainly have a love hate relationship with that platform. I would have a LOT to say in that video :). Thanks for this input Katy -mj
Thank you for your videos. I ran across your ad on RUclips, checked out your channel and subscribed. What types of videos do you plan on coming out with in the future?
Honestly Tony it's just whatever i'm into at the moment. i want to do a lot more slip casting videos as i love slip casting. i'd like to do a class as well. I'm also into 3d printing / CNC machining and growing food hydroponically and have channels for those things as well. I should be more planned and thoughtful about where I'm going with this i guess. What would you like to see more of? -mj
Where can I buy the stamps for the ornaments, and what is your top temp for firing these in the kiln please, I am 89 and we never stop learning do we! Cornwall UK
Wow Rose!!! Which stamps are you interested in? Regarding temp - i usually fire these to cone cone 06. They would be stronger if i fired them to cone 5 but it can darken the color a bit and I wnat them bright white. no glaze on these when i fire them
I don't use molds for these ornaments but other mold products I let the slip set for maybe 15 minutes and I keep topping it off in that time. then i pour it out and wait for another 30 mins or so. it will usually separate out from the sides of the plaster mold so you can pull it right out. if you need it to dry faster try setting it in the sun or in front of a fan. hope that helps! -mj
Hi Marty. I will print some and put them on my website for sale. the diameter of the cutouts is 3 1/3" but when my clay is fired it shrinks down to around 3". I'm printing them cutouts now. Be looking for them on the website in the next few days. Thanks for your interest!
Where can I purchase stamps like your hope and peace stamps please. I also would like to learn how to sell my crafts on Amazon. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I live in Oregon.
hi Patsy. sorry for the late reply. Please reach out to me on my website and I can help you more with this. Just be warned that Amazon does wind up taking about 50% when it's all said and done. it's still one of my biggest income streams but it's not my favorite way to sell.
This is very true. Thank you Rick! Sorry for just now replying. these comments can get away from me sometimes. Thanks for sharing and contributing! -mj
I really appreciate your thorough, detailed explanation of your process. Thank you for your time.
Absolutely Thea! Thanks for saying that. It's a joy to make these when i'm able to. -mj
You are very clear and concise in your teaching methods. I like that a lot because I’m new to making pottery. Thank you very much!

@@OutpostPottery all of that sounds great! I like the stuff you are doing with combining 3D printing and pottery. What do you slip cast?
That looks like the old mangle my grandmother used to her linnen cloths. I wonder if that would work.
Let me know if you try it!
@ she died 25 years ago so it is long gone.
