    You can use the embossed rolling pins for baking after clay ornaments. You soak them in water and dawn and clean with a toothbrush, rinse and wash. it's only clay.

    • @ChalkingUpSuccess
      @ChalkingUpSuccess  2 года назад +2

      Hi Audrey, thanks for your comment. You should never immerse a patterned rolling pin in water completely nor should you put it in the dishwasher. Hi there. I've used various types of air dry clay to make these Christmas ornaments and always get the same results. So far, none of mine have crumbled so I don't feel the need to use a sealer although you could try that. Hi … I just wanted to know … about using a sealant on the ornament. I got a varnish sealant but noticed that it reacts with the sharpie markers on the clay ornaments. The varnish on the acrylic paint looks fine. Wud u recommend any other sealant ? So it doesn’t make the sharpie Color bleed

    • @ChalkingUpSuccess
      @ChalkingUpSuccess  2 года назад

      If I use sealer, it's usually acrylic sealer or Mod Podge. If I'm just using stamps on these ornaments, I usually don't add sealer at all. I've never tried to add sealer over sharpie pens so can be of no help there I'm afraid. I would test out each sealer on a scrap piece of clay before using it on your ornaments. I'd love it if you could let me know how you get on! Good luck with your project! 🙋‍♀️

    • @ChalkingUpSuccess
      @ChalkingUpSuccess  3 года назад +1

      There are a few methods to try to stop the clay from sticking to your cutter. Use a spray bottle to mist your cutter with water before cutting or dip the cutter in some cornstarch or flour. Another method would be to cover the clay with cling film once you've rolled it out then use the cutter on top of that. Let me know how you get on. 🙂

    This is a great tutorial. Can I ask how thick you roll theses ornaments out please.
    Thank you

      Hi, Wendy! The guides I made are around 8mm = 5/16 inch thick - hope that helps. 🙂

    Can you paint them once they dry out+

    • @ChalkingUpSuccess
      @ChalkingUpSuccess  3 года назад +1

      Hello Jay, thanks for your comment. Yes, you can paint air dry clay ornaments once they're dry. I would use acrylic paint and make sure to wait at least an hour before each coat. (If you intend to the paint).

    Cover the clay with a piece of plastic wrap before cutting out ornament, it will smooth the sides for you.

      I'm not a fan of using plastic wrap as it just gets thrown away afterwards. Smoothing the sides doesn't take much time at all and creates no waste. 🙂

    If the clay is non-toxic, can’t you just wash all the rolling pins, utensils, etc…and use with food later on?

    • @ChalkingUpSuccess
      @ChalkingUpSuccess  2 года назад

      Hi Monica, thanks for your comment. I like to keep my crafting utensils separate from my cooking utensils. If you were using an embossed rolling pin, there may be a chance of small amounts of clay remaining in the rolling pin after cleaning. That's why I recommend keeping your crafting utensils separate. If you were using a marble/glass rolling pin and cookie cutters that can be washed at high temperatures, there shouldn't be a problem in using them for both crafting and cooking. If you are thinking of making these clay ornaments, I recommend that you read my blog post first because there is a lot more information there than I could fit in this video. Hope that helps and good luck with your project! 🙂
