I have only this: entering old age is also a death, and a rebirth. There comes a point where you must resign to certain things. Perhaps you can’t dance anymore, or hike. Or knit. Your hands fail, or your knees. Gradually you lose capability. But new things emerge. More patience, more kindness, more focus on details. I imagine it is preparation for the day when I won’t have a body at all. No 5 senses, no emotional ups and downs. Just understanding and knowledge. And that is all I will need.

I emigrated from my country in my late teens. I lived in Germany, the USA, Turkey, and back to the USA. I am from Latin America, and I have always been able to visit family and familiar places often. While I enjoy going back, my home is now the USA, and the place that I miss and want to return after my travels. When I go visit the country of my birth, I notice how I have changed as well as the people and places that once were home. Home is where you make it with the person you choose to be with. Yes, you will always miss the old life/place, but they have changed, and so have you. I wish you all the best in your transformation and finding joy in your new life and home.

    Dear Ana,
Hvala vrlo ličnom i dirljivom videu.
Normalno je da imaš strah zbog novca.U stranoj si zemlji i bez konkretnog posla, mada je i to danas relativno.Selila sam se više puta u životu.Svojevoljno zbog školovanja u drugi grad a protiv svoje volje zbog rata u mojoj zemlji.
Sad imam posađene biljke koje me mirisom vraćaju u to doba.Gledam napred i pokušavam da se svaki dan nečem obradujem.
    Puno pozdrava iz Srbije.❤❤❤

What a nice video ! I have been moving a lot through my life and lived in other countries or borders... I manage to settle everywhere but I was always missing something frome every place I went :) ! I'm glad from time to time I get to order some of the things that can travel, like a special tea or some cosmetics (I love german products from the DM so much!!), I watch photos or cook myself a nostalgic meal !! It's the way our life are written... like rivers, sometimes quiet, sometimes tumultous !! But we can be grateful for good sides : our mind are wider and open because we have met diversity of people and opinions, we know lots of things, words, dishes, cultural facts, cities, landscapes... and made lots of memories !!! There was a book I loved when a kid, with a young man deciding to go for a walk and walking through many unexpected adventures ! Then one day, still walking, he finds back the woods around his place and his house !! He then lives happy with some magic objects he gathered through his journey helping others!! The journey in itself is a way of living and interesting, we can make this safe place in ourselves so we never lost it !! A few items like a cup, a beloved pyjama, a book, are enough :) even if we can have more and be happy with cozyness !!

Hello Ana, thank you for being so honest about your life, experiences and fear. Fear can drain one to the point of exhaustion (it did for me). I also, as you do live day by day, because looking further ahead is not good for my mental health. Besides that we can't control everything, one need to let go. Money is safety and important of course, but "safety" in general is an illusion in my honest opinion. I'm not in your situation, but my parents left countries twice (Ukraine, Israel) and went to Germany. As you know best, it wasn't easy. And I admire everybody who does move to another country. Whatever your path is dear Ana, I wish you and Brian well❤. P.S. don't know if I mentioned, but you look lovely with your new cut 🥰.

I always so look forward to your Sunday videos. The part where you talk about being a "guest, " really made me feel a lot of emotions. Partly because where I live, here in California, we do not treat many of the foreigners as guests, especially Spanish speakers. I like the idea of native peope treating foreigners as guests versus "aliens," which is such a common word here. But also my heart was breaking from seeing it from your perspective, because trying to be a good guest, always means being on your best behavior. Home is the place where you feel truly relaxed and like you can be yourself.
It makes me wonder, what becomes the anchor for belonging in nomadic societies, as so many societies were/still are. Is it the tribe/family? Do you have more a feeling of your own identity being in different places?

I had very few savings when i left and had to quit my main job. Now I have to rely on my husband financially till i get back on track work-wise. It's the first time in my adult life that i am financially dependent on someone. Also there's a new world to adapt to. And I miss the snow. It's like learning to live almost from scratch. Thank you, Ana. I'm more than a couple decades older than you, but change never stops. And we never stop needing to be able to find a way to go forward and continue living as well as we can in spite of all the changes. It takes wisdom and courage and an open heart and willing mind to be able to let go of what WAS, and to find new comforts and beauty and pleasure in what IS. Because the only other real options are to waste all of our time fighting change and being unhappy, or to withdraw completely.
You are brave and smart and capable and talented and have already dealt with SO many things in your life. So take strength from all that you have already gone through and managed. We each have, inside of us, everything we need.

Hi Ana, put simply ,you are living a good life. You are experiencing so much. I admire you so much. We all have a different path that seems set and not what we expected. My life in Australia is very different to yours. Safe and settled but full of lifes challenges too. Very different to yours but internally probably the same obstacles.
Have you considered Poland. I know you have Polish heritage you mentioned in an older video. Polish people are so friendly. It is my heritage and I was visiting there in January. There were many Russians who had fled the current crisis and I feel they were well recieved. I mention Poland because it is close to your old environment. Pine trees, snow. It is also extremely vegan friendly. I just love it there. I strongly feel that you and Brian would be very welcome and could establish roots.
Maybe some if your Polish viewers can back me up.

Your channel is the only one I continue to watch for many years - I really enjoy your life-journey and very frank, not over simplified outgivings. It seems to me that your insights are getting deeper and more insightful year by year. Good luck! Talking about myself... This was an interesting talk which really resonates with me, especially about the difficulty of being a foreigner. I am 66 and have now been slow traveling with my husband since 2015. I have also not lived in my home country for 25 years now and feel that I cannot go back as it has changed so much. I basically feel homeless. I still enjoy traveling but I also feel exhausted from being on the move every few months and miss just being able to function in my own language. It’s a journey for sure.

Well done , you arrived at the starting point of a new phase or new life. I can relate to what you are saying. Starting over can happen to everyone suddenly and it is hard but it can be done. Things often change unexpectedly and when walk through it we learn through what we experience. I started over when I was 45 and had 3 children to look after. Then, some years later, I emigrated and started all over again. I was over 50 and still had family responsibilities. It was never easy but there was also an urge to find out how it can be done in the new situation or country. I am glad to see you smile when you talk about your story and that you now feel you can accept what is and enjoy life more. It's good you don't have anxiety any longer! Many Blessings for your path! ;-)

Ana I truly value your thoughts and thank you for sharing them. You’re right about it hard being a foreigner in a different country. I’m of Asian descent and have lived most of my life in the UK, integrated well (I think anyway) and straddled two cultures so that I don’t feel myself lose either aspect which makes me, me. But it’s tough, and navigating it through the lens of midlife, heavily pregnant with my second child and anticipating the rebirth of myself after my daughter arrives…..there’s so much to unpick and restitch together. It’ll be hard but wonderful to be able to experience it all. And interesting to see how our children of mixed heritage navigate their way through the ever-changing world. As always, wishing you and Brian the very best, Sonia x

This was very touching and it made me happy and sad to see the parts of your life in Siberia that you shared with us. I'm one of the many who have been with you since before you left your home country.
This may sound silly but there is a song from the cartoon Adventure Time that goes:
"Time is an illusion that helps things make sense
So we are always living in the present tense
It seems unforgiving when a good thing ends
But you and I will always be back then.
You and I will always be back then.
    Will happen
    Happening
    Happened
There we are again and again
Cause you and I will always be back then." ❤

I am pleased to see how well you have weathered the ups and downs of being displaced from your home. Change is not always easy, and it almost always has some challenges that help us grow and understand ourselves a bit better. I have found that relaxing into change (as much as I can) is a pragmatic way to move through life. Learning to be more comfortable with myself and with change is allowing me to live a life that isn't as stressful as it once was. All the best to you and Brian. Peace.

Dear Ana, I moved away from my birth country and lived in 2 different countries after that. I understand the feeling of being a guest. But still, I hope that at one point you'll no longer feel like a guest and you'll find a country where you feel at home, or at least something close to that. In my experience I found that creating a nest, knitting, sewing and crocheting were a way to create home inside my house. Focusing on my family is also very important, knowing that the place where we live might change, but we would stay together.
Yes, we change. We keep some of the old, adopt some of the new, and that's essential. It never ends. I hope you'll have loads of good new experiences and ideas, and be happy.

You have certainly proved to be more resilient than you ever believed you could be, my friend! In growing we learn many lessons, about life and about ourselves. From one survivor to another, never give over control of your finances. I don't believe it is your anxieties that make you not trust in this area, it is lessons well learned. Anyone who cares about you should support that decision, even if it were only to make you feel more secure. Anyone who would not give over control of their own finances should understand.

    • @anagoldberg
      @anagoldberg  4 дня назад
