Desert Digital MARPAT Effectiveness

- In this video we look at Desert digital MARPAT and its effectiveness in a woodland environment during the fall and winter. This pattern was designed to be used in desert and arid environments, but in this video we see if the pattern can also be utilized in this one.
(this video was shot around late October in North Texas)
This camo works well in its intended environment, but I would say not so much in this one. I think the woodland MARPAT would be a great choice for all year (except in snow, of course) due to the brown base color.
Literally found your video to see if I could use my old deserts for hunting. This was entertaining. Good shit.
Desert digital and Woodland digital arey favorites because you can blend in with almost everything. .. I hunt with them both. My father is also in the Marines witch got me into digital camo good job on the video.
Nice
You're really doing a great job on you're videos. I was just checking out digital shirts and paints last night . again you are doing a GREAT job keep up the good work thanks
Thanks brother, I appreciate it.
I'm watching you're other video right now great stuff I'm sure glad I'm not sitting on that berm lol
Once again, excellent demonstration. Movement is the tell. Watch for the target to breathe just before reveal. My camo'd thumb UP!
Thanks for watching.
At 2:17 I thought u were laying in the grass but then u come out of the tree line lol u fooled me
I'll venture a guess, you launder your camo in a modern detergent that has brighteners, in sunlight that marpat shines like new money.
test= In a dark room hit your camo with ultraviolet. (blacklight) I think you'll see what I'm saying.
I'm with the other posters, picked you out about 75% of the time.
Good video thanks.
Wow I was here thinking, Desert camo in a wooded environment... this is gonna go bad and yet I could not find you half the time. Good job, love this video series
Yup, 6 color has been one of the better desert patterns I've seen in the winter that actually seems to be pretty effective.
@@Brent0331 hey brent you beliebe which one is better overall this.one or multicolor? And which one is better for a wilderness like that one in the video?
This pattern works for what it is intended for and you show the contrast against green vegetation you stand out otherwise you blend in. I still like the Coyote Tan video where you really blended in.
Are you planning videos of woodland MARPAT, OD and Multicam in a fall/winter environment?
Probably not man, I had so many desert and hunting patterns to get through and my time has been limited lately from work/fam. Spring is right around the corner and I think even if I wanted to I probably wouldn’t be able to get them in before the spring kicks in. My initial thoughts are that they are just going to be too dark for the environment during this time of year where I am. I’ve actually have already done a MultiCam in the fall/winter video though, you can find it on my channel by scrolling through the videos, or going to the “Camouflage Effectiveness series” playlist I have on my channel.
***** : Thanks for answering. After watching the videos, I've started looking at the Alabama landscape a little more closely. With our heavier, temperate woods, there is generally less green undergrowth, so the darker patterns should work better here year-round, where they will blend with wood and ground.
great video good job as always, good job getting a dessert camo to work in Texas, I wonder if the 6 color is better in this environment only because it has more brown in it. just wondering.
I could spot him fairly quickly. The coloring blends in nicely with the surrounding colors but it doesn't do much to hide the shape of the human body.
Would you day this would look good in the spring when the snow is melting because the MARPAT reflects so much light off of it, it almost looks white from a distance
Hey Brent have you ever heard of ATAC or US4CES Camouflages? If so what is your opinion on them? I like them a lot better than UCP, but hell anything is better than UCP. I was thinking of getting a pair of US4CES or ATAC BDU's, but I think I might stick to the old school Camouflages like Tiger Stripe, ERDL, 6 Color Desert Pattern.
Check out my channel brother, I have videos for ATACs, Tiger Stripe, and 6 color desert, I haven’t heard of US4CES I’ll have to look into it.
***** Thanks man I appreciate the reply
Personally I use woodland marpat in the Canadian woods during the fall the heavy browns blend in with the browns and beiges superbly
Yeah agree I use the same during fall in ontario. Works great
I think your lighter top gave you away, I could see you mostly through the whole video. Good job though :)
works very well on desert environment, of course not on others
Your blouse is white washed like hell. That's a big issue here.
If it bothers you that much there are a few things you should take into consideration. First, is the blouse faded some, yes. But so much so that it is pure white and unserviceable by Marine Corps standards, no. In the opening scenes I have direct sunlight hitting me which is causing it to look very “white”. You are probably comparing the blouse to the trousers I have on. We’ll the trousers are a pair of USMC FROG trousers that I wore in Afghanistan and I can tell you that the color of the FROG suits are slightly darker than the regular utilities (brand new & old) probably because of the different flame resistant fabrics used to make them. Starting at 3:53 I’m not even wearing that blouse anymore, but a FROG shirt. So if you are questioning the integrity of the test based on the blouse alone, it is used in less than half of the video. Go to 8:25 in the video for my closing statements and you can clearly see the effects of light exposure on the uniform on my right side compared to my left.
***** Served in Astan? What unit, company? I can see you're a grunt.
Yes, I'm a grunt. I grew up as a 0331 and now a 0369. I was with B co 1/4 in Iraq in '03 & '04, and 1/23 in the Stan in '11.
IUL? Nice. I'm an 0326, Alpha company 1/1 Afghan 2012-2013. Enlisted in 2007.
Good deal brother, you guys must have gotten there just after we left. 1/1 huh, man how I miss Horno, best years of my life spent there! S/F
Fine work! Very interestingly and unexpectedly!
It is a pity that you don't want to make the ACU test. You would have the best and fullest kolletion of tests of the best camouflages in the world. Please tell why you don't want to make the ACU test?
best camo ever
Which would you prefer, MARPAT, or P42'S?
very cool.
Better than I thought it would do. When you went to the K-Pot, it hurt you. That roundness just stuck out. Still overall, not too shabby of a pattern.
Love your comparison vids, btw. You should get a couple buddies and do three different patterns all at the same time in the same location. Three man patrol with three different patterns, because you do different unis but at different times of the year and in different locations.
You know what I'm trying to say? :-/
i actually think it works.... It makes it look like the sunlight beaming onto the woodland enviroment.
I'm kind of torn on the effectiveness of this pattern in this environment.
There were some where it was painfully obvious where you were at, due to me easily spotting the boonie hat and your arms, but at the same time, I think if the distance was just a tad greater, I'd be easily fooled.
However, the majority of the time I had to do a quick scan twice or three times to find you. For a pattern that wasn't made for this environment, it performed surprisingly really well!
I know exactly what you mean, and I concur. Thanks for your comments.
+rex3453
To me its seems to be Really bad areas to work with.... maybe in little more heavly woodlend backgrounds would be a better chouse
why is MARPAT camo pixelated
It reflects too much light. great vid.
Thanks man, I would concur that there are better options than Desert MARPAT for this environment. After all the pattern is intended for a desert, not a fall or winter woodland environment. Surprisingly though, other desert patterns are pretty effective in this environment i.e. 6 color desert, & desert Tiger. I’m going to do desert DPM soon as well, hopefully that’s a contender in this environment. I think the 3 color desert pattern would probably have similar results as this one.
My results on 3 color D wasn't good. Thanks for puttin the time and effort into the vids.
Desert digital and multicam do great in southeastern nm
Making that camo work.
MARPAT is very effective in the deserts of Kuwait.
How does it work vs multicam? Could you compare?
I have videos on Multicam in the same environment. Check out my camouflage effectiveness playlist.
I bet coyote would work better. Seems like this stuff is just a little too light colored. Not all bad though
Do you preffer the FROGs or MCUU?
FROG hands down with body armor such as plate carriers & flaks. A regular blouse if your slick with just duce gear on. The reason I say that is because the inner shirt on the frog top is like wearing a t-shirt, after awhile the straps of regular duce gear start cutting/rubbing into you. You don’t have that issue when you have a plate carrier or a flak on and the benefits of having that moisture wicking, heat escaping shirt on do wonders.
I agree with Brent, I cook my ass off every time I wear my flak with my MCCUU blouse but the FROG shirt is great for the flak however, if you're just wearing a chest rig or an LBV or FLC you want the blouse because 1 it has the camo in the middle and that'll help you camouflage a little better since you can see your chest and back with the lighter gear, and 2 because its thicker so the straps and belts don't rub your skin so badly
USMARINE7459 Saddly my commands only let me use ACU tops and not battleshirts.
needs more brown.
Lighter browns are always better than darker greens, or any green base for that matter. This worked well in that fall, very brown but also, very bright environment. I wonder how woodland digi blouse would do with desert trousers. Question, do you think our woodland marpat looks too similar to Russian RATNIK camo?! Dominant greens like USMC wood and Russian Ratnik...and dominant browns, like Multicam/OCP. We can see how a multitude of camos causes things like colored duct tape around the bicep.
i wonder what this guy's closet looks like?
You can see it here, its dubbed in German though. ruclips.net/video/oDqSPq658zo/видео.html
have you looked at the US4ces camo?
Brent0331 Brent, that's awesome brother! Very cool man, very cool!
If it's the only cammo someone can get a hold of then it's better than jeans and a t shirt.
Did you serve in Iraq?
Yes
ya know brent its great that you do these vid s trains the ee and we fet to see just what works and I got to tell ya these I don't think works so well that choco chip pattern to my eye works the best and lizard works good to the multi cam is pretty good to
They’re definitely not as effective as other patterns in this environment, but they’re amazing in the desert though.
ya they would be 29 Delbert would e great for this stuff
Either my computer settings are wrong, or this camouflage pattern does not work. Easily, I spotted you in all but one setting, the setting in which you were completely covered by standing brush. I can see why our military is eliminating this pattern. Woodland camouflage remains the most effective pattern you've demonstrated, followed by the chocolate chip desert pattern.
The Marine Corps is not eliminating Desert MARPAT. Its a desert pattern, some desert patters like 6 color desert are effective in a woodland environment during the winter, some aren't. This pattern is effective in a desert, but not necessary effective in this environment.
Brent, sir. I love all your videos. You are truly committed to keeping America free; many patriots are. I wish I could have joined the Marines instead of the Air Force, but USAF was the only service to offer me a hearing waiver. I've learned much from you. I look forward to more. If you have a recommendation for the cream of the creams desert camouflage, please share here. I'm likely to live out my life in Arizona. Standard woodland will be great in the Sedona-Flagstaff area; but if I end up in the rest of the desert, I would be grateful for your recommendation.
hmm good vid but i think the helmet lets it down to much light reflection good job i wasn't a sniper lol ......good vids like em
+ade “glove” harris Thanks bud.
Gotta say this uniform seems pretty much for desert only lol
To me it is shining to much in the sunlight. If you weren’t in the sun it was hard to see.
This partern have the disruptive power of a plain color...
Hi my names adhya i from Indonesia i like marpat desert and i has t shirt , trousers ,hat.
easy to spot every scenario, you need darker brown, maybbe even just a full coyote brown bdu would beat this easily
See and judge for yourself, I have that video uploaded already as well.
Good video, but you switched to a helmet and almost every time I saw you hiding because I saw the shape of the helmet. Unnaturally round. But then I am looking where you set the camera up to look, and actively searching for you, but if I were walking past normally I'd be dead man walking.
Looks white, literally stands out most the time. Good video though.
BUDDA - BUDDA - BUDDA BUDDA - BUDDA - BUDDA BUDDA - BUDDA - BUDDA
AI - EEEEEEEE !!!!! GOTCHA GOTCHA !!!! AH ! HA! HA! HA!
helmet and shoulders are giving you away, they are unnaturally round
He's wearing a boonie hat not a helmet.
Rah
Sincerely, a boot 03

This camo is pretty terrible for this environment (which seems a lot like Canada in fall). Multicam is much better for fall weather I think at least if your not in a dessert. This camo literally drew my eye to him every time almost immediately
i mostly noticed your head and arms but legs and such never stood out. in fact not even your equipment did just me going "hmmm that stone is floating awfully high that might be a helmet"
Hiding camouflaged is not anything. From a different angle you might be easier to see. I think someone should invent something that makes it easier to hide in the trees.
They have; it's hunting camo.
my eyes work a lot better than your camera IRL lol and I was able to spot you with in a 1/4 second like 90% of the time
Let's see if you spot him that easily while walking and knowing that you could be shot at any moment
