This is where MARPAT really shines, in spring it's way too dark and you look too dark and stand out like a tree against all the green. But when everything dies and it's all brown and light browns, you blend in extremely well

It's just amazing to me how Marpat looks green in the spring/summer or in a coniferous forest, yet looks brown in the fall/winter in deciduous forests. It's amazing. It almost looks as brown at the Austrian zeltbahn pattern in this environment. edited to add. Wow, it even blends in with a hard wood tree trunk which has grey bark at 7:34.
pretty impressive camo pattern, i think its becoming a favorite of mine, Your video series is 'the' best camo reference source/testing on the internet, keep up the good work,
I love Marpat, where I'm at the woodland blends well most of the year, the desert blends surprisingly well in the fall...which surprised me. Awesome video bro!
Wow that is a really effective pattern. In the first video I didn't think it was very good but seeing it in the fall it is way better. This is the first one of these videos where I actually had no idea where you where for the majority of the shots.
Charles AOR2/CADPAT/MC Tropic for spring, Woodland/MARPAT for the fall. Multicam is good all around, but doesn’t always excel at specific times and places.
Very effective camo pattern.....really enjoyed trying to locate your position at the start of each clip before you moved....outstanding job troop.....keep up the good work...
All these years later and this is still one of the best camo patterns. Maybe AOR2 in the early spring and multicam in winter when everything dies. But Woodland MARPAT blends well pretty much all year round in my ao.
As soon as I saw the camo I loved it. Looked like the perfect brownish to green ratio! I can usually spot say 8/10 of the test with other camos but this one by far wins.
Since most of the airsoft and paintball games i go to are in the fall, i find this camo great with some od green and coyote brown pouches on my gear. Really matches the darker/dead vegetation in my area
The issue with even the much hated Army ACU is that people dont take into account is that these patterns were developed to be effective at hundreds of meters/yards where engagements were actually occurring. I've seen the hated ACU at 300 yards against both a desert and foliage background and they worked at that distance. At ten yards away where most defense journalists were taking photos to churn up outrage, they were understandably garbage. As would be the man jammies and flip flops the enemy was wearing. They rarely ever let us get that close for a reason. Maybe Ukraine is different but we were 200-300 meters out during most engagements and even 'shitty camo' patterns made a difference.
Brent. I can't stress enough about how much I love your videos. I recently watched your videos about hunting camo patterns. Long story short, you should really check out Predator camo and ASAT camo. Both patterns really hone in on versatility and shredding the human outline. If you want to check out the Predator patterns you should definitely look at fall grey, brown deception, and 3-D deception.
definately far more effective in the fall colours...great video...not sure if you can get your hands on some but interested to see how cadpat does with the green foliage from your first video.
I love the desert MARPAT but I think they used too much black in this camouflage. I wish that they used a dark coyote tan color for all of it. What do you think Brent0331?
I’ve never seen someone wear a boonie and not look like a goober. You pull it off so well, you look like a moto poster Marine. Had Poolee flashbacks of beating off in the recruiters supply room tryna steal posters 😂
I'll be honest I have watched a lot of your camo vids and Marpat and the Tiger stripes seem to me most effective. I wore Marpat when it came out when I was in. I just never really seen it from this prospective.
Travis KnifeLover I'm definitely a fan of both those patterns, in fact what started this whole series was my original video about tiger stripe. I wanted to do a video on how effective tiger stripe and it just spawned into me doing all these videos about other patterns.
If I'm not mistaken the Marine Corps tested both patterns when they were doing the trials. I remember 2\1 was the first battalion to get Marpat. They were wearing the gaiters with black boots it looked pretty good.
Believe it or not. The Corps had developed a Tiger Stripe pattern in Marpat colors and it got amazing feed back but just like the Army with thier ACU/UCP someone in a high place thought it'd be better if it was digital. m.ruclips.net/video/AalHx0HBf3g/видео.html The History of: The US Marine Corps MARPAT ... - RUclips

I think the opposite; it works better against digital cameras but is pretty poor against the human eye. At least, it doesn't work worth a damn in Indiana.
The problem I saw with MARPAT is when it gets wet it becomes extra dark, more so prevalent in a newer set. So when Marines are doing Marine things sweating their balls off these things make you stick out pretty badly. These things work a lot better when they start to fade a little in my opinion based on my experiences. BTW Semper Fi devil! Really enjoying the camouflage videos, and with the shooting towards the camera really drives the effectiveness of the camo home. Thanks!
marpat is very effective the reason being is that the marines didnt stupidly try to have a one patern fits all like the army did with ucp. they have a woodland marpat and a desert marpat each are very good at what theyre intended for
it does get darker in the shadows. you are definitely silhouetted in shadows and with no or little cover. stay in cover it works really well, for example at 3:25 and 3:26. I am a little disappointed in the camo . great vid.
It seems like the woodland type camos work exceptionally well when there is a bit more brown and lighter fall colors. The bright summer vegetation environment maybe slightly less so
Too dark. Is interesting to the Amazon, but not to theaters of temperate or tropic operations or thickened forests like you have there. I found you every time and even when i had doubts they were between 2 spots, but then i chose the best spot in relation to the trail and you were there. Good camo, but not very good camo. Fulfills the mission. Ps.: i was DM in Brazilian Army, so i know what to look. Pps .: we also need a new pattern, ours is still dark too. From my chair the solution is to break the silhouette on the shoulders, pelvis and head. It was these parties that denounced him. Good vid. Selva!
Only way to break the silhouette is to stop repeating the pattern from head to toe; a good pattern needs open space to allow the eye to pass over it and digital camo has none. Open space allows the eye to focus on the mimicry added to the pattern, essentially eliminating the human outline; military patterns use neither, resulting in blocky human shapes being identified. Eventually, they'll learn and start copying what hunting patterns have done for the last few decades to great success.
Great Video, but I have one question in your opinion What color gear goes best with this camo pattern, for example digital Marpat with coyote tan carrier, pouches, etc
tons of options, but in my humble opinion, marpat is tough to beat. semper fi. fyi, it works really well in the piney woodlands of long island, with the reddish hues of pine needles, etc.
Great video as always, and the pattern is very effective, but I agree with you on your favorites about the Tiger Stripe and the Rhodesian Camo Pattern are the most effective. I still love Tiger Stripe. Marpat works really good, but then again you make it work in your favor and there are times you blend in well into the environment, but then others the shadows are not in your favor. I would definitely say that to make camo work don't walk around with a target indicator black weapon only something like the patterns you do on your weapons to make be the best it can for you.
Getting a full set of marpat gear on army surplus. I also saw some urban tiger stripe that looked like it would be really effective, not sure if you have an urban tiger stripe video. I just can't find a good tac vest in marpat, or any good digital design outside of ACU, which sucks... the only ones I've found are shitty airsoft knock-offs.
1. Shot that area, but was very unsure it was actually you. When you moved, I doubted if I'd have hit the right spot of the blotch I thought was you 2. Was suspicious of the spot and focusing on it, but didn't begin to draw until you moved 3. Would have shot the dark patch in front of you 4. Would have shot right beneath you 5. Missed you completely 6. Missed you completely 7. Would have shot beneath you 8. Would have shot in front of you 9. Would have shot at the dark patch to your right side 10. Saw you right away, only briefly unsure 11. Missed you completely 12. Saw that patch right away, but would have aimed above you 13. Saw you about halfway through, was slightly unsure tho 14. Missed you completely. That patch kept drawing attention, but you blended right it 15. Spotted you right away. Easy one tho, good idea to not give it much time This pattern pwned me, makes it a top contender for what I'll pick lol. Good test, as always
It doesn't matter for deer hunting, I had to wear bright orange when deer hunting (with gun) and they don't really see it. It's movement, and ESPECIALLY smell are what you have to worry about for deer.
Nah, smell is a myth; I go into the woods after a shower wearing deodorant and cologne and can even smoke a little cannabis and deer don't notice a thing; as long as you have a good pattern (Realtree, TrueTimber, Mossy Oak, etc.), they'll come within ten feet of you without noticing you're there. Movement and sound are the two biggest factors that scare off deer, especially sound. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been within spear distance of a deer with good camo.
I’d love to see it used against the AOR2 (which I’m still getting used to it being called since we Sailors just say NWU III). I have a feeling the MARPAT would do better in darker, more shadowed terrain but it would be interesting.
very hit or miss. A couple of the prones were good, one time standing with your back turned was good, and one laying almost completely behind things was good at 10:00 (I would say largely because of the resolution). Most of these positions you were an eye magnet though. I guess it depends on the person, or I might just be tripping. Knowing there is someone hiding in the shot is definitely a huge factor though
great videos. looks like it's a close tie for marpat & woodland in fall or a semi arid forest like the semi-dryer Sierras in California What's your opinion? Would love to see you do same for vehicle camo as well
Thanks man for responding and that helped me. Also thank you for your service to this country,I have a cousin who was a Marine sniper,oh and I have one more question sorry for bothering you. I was just curious what made you decide to join the Marine Corps I like asking vets this or men who are still in the armed forces.
Navy SEAL 101 There's a lot of comradely amongst the Marine Corps, even after you get out. Because its the smallest branch of the U.S. military there is a stronger tighter bond I think. Just a small example, but start looking at the back of vehicles as you drive down the road. I bet you see more Marine Corps stickers on vehicles than you do all the other branches combined, despite the fact that we have only a small fraction of the personnel that the other branches do.
You make great videos, sir. Is there any of yours where you cover how to do your face paint? I would like to know if there is a formula or a pattern you recommend. Thank you for your time.
Bill P There is a method to painting your face, I talk about it in this video about half of the way through it. Camouflaging yourself, individual gear and equipment
In part II (environment with predominance of browns) Marpat is more effective, the USMC did a good job, not like the UCP. But, I prefer M81 Woodland pattern and if it's washed better.
I thought use reverse digital pattern under each layer of digital pattern colors so to make depth but use like 5 or 6 colorsreverse shadow outside edge of squares only lightly then do squares over colored in maybe some one can have you test that pattern
Slapnuts138 Can't really say brother, I look at the environment and pick the pattern I feel will be most effective in it. Some of my personal favorites though are tiger stripe and the Rhodesian pattern.
AOR2 in my opinion is lighter. Might work well for green vegetation like the kind you see, and maybe the lightened ground. But MARPAT excels in the shadows. I guess you should research them, and make your own decision. The SEALs use AOR2 and the Marines obviously use MARPAT. Both are great fighting forces with great tastes in camoflauge.
+Brent0331 thanks, I found it not long after I asked, great channel BTW, I bought a set of Belgian jigsaw based on your video, my hunting buddies laughed when I told them, I've yet to try it out
Marpat learned woodlands mistake of the big black blotches the only thing I wish the marine corps did was make a multicam pattern or in fact keep the old wood land pattern but make the blotches smaller.
This is where MARPAT really shines, in spring it's way too dark and you look too dark and stand out like a tree against all the green. But when everything dies and it's all brown and light browns, you blend in extremely well
Faded woodland marpat works pretty well in spring.
It really is amazing what the Marines have come up with when they receive the smallest funds out of all the major branches.
Well what I like is with their vehicles is that they still make amphibious and fording a priority.
JONATHan CaPiChanO They did not come up with it, the Canadians came up with it, it was just modified for the Marines. As for they get the least money. Marine Corps $40.6 billion 4%Total Budget taken allotted from Department of Navy

MARPAT MARPAT MAPAT!!! the best camo for European forests!

European and American forests are just about the same really
Yes, Marpat is very good for European forests. But I also like Flecktarn, because it has also dark colors: medium grey, dark green, brown and black. And only 11 % light green.

Thanks for watching
I have to say, you just changed my mind about Marpat! Seems to work great
Harbard Honestly, I don't think the video does the pattern justice. I think its a lot more effective in person than it appears in both my videos.
Yea it defiantly is better in person it's one of my favorites and mostly because it was my uniform hahaha. Rah!
I think the opposite; it works better against digital cameras but is pretty poor against the human eye. At least, it doesn't work worth a damn in Indiana.

I'm sure with all your experiences you've seen how dark that woodland gets when its wet as well.

marpat is very effective the reason being is that the marines didnt stupidly try to have a one patern fits all like the army did with ucp. they have a woodland marpat and a desert marpat each are very good at what theyre intended for

Superb design, definitely difficult to spot, almost 100% blend accuracy.
MARPAT is my choice for fall season.
Hey Brent, now that it's fall you should test the orange and brown version off waffen ss oakleaf.
This is pretty impressive in the fall, I wonder how it would do up here in the NE U.S. this time of year.

Just like the woodland pattern, this pattern is good going into the fall season. I think marpat is slightly better than woodland.
great videos. looks like it's a close tie for marpat & woodland in fall or a semi arid forest like the semi-dryer Sierras in California What's your opinion? Would love to see you do same for vehicle camo as well
Hey Brent, you reckon you could check out DPCU (Auscam)? Thanks, I think it is really effective in very vegetated areas!
Mr. SirKing If I come across it I will for sure, problem is I haven't really found it here at a good price in the states yet.
Awesome! Thanks for looking mate, im sure you'd love it! Thanks again!
the best summer camo!
good videos! keep up with the good work! 🇺🇸
Thanks brother.
Wow that's effective
I was experimenting with commercial MARPAT here in Serbia and I find out it’s too dark for local environment
Wow, this is a good competitor for the Pencott Greenzone
You make great videos, sir. Is there any of yours where you cover how to do your face paint? I would like to know if there is a formula or a pattern you recommend. Thank you for your time.
Bill P There is a method to painting your face, I talk about it in this video about half of the way through it. Camouflaging yourself, individual gear and equipment
Thank you, sir. Great info as always.
Hey Brent I have a question since your in the marine corps do you prefer a floppy Boonie hat or stiff brimmed Boonie hat.
Navy SEAL 101 I generally crunch/fold mine up so that it doesn't have that still perfect ring brim.
In part II (environment with predominance of browns) Marpat is more effective, the USMC did a good job, not like the UCP. But, I prefer M81 Woodland pattern and if it's washed better.
Is it better than m81 woodland or OCP?
the new cadpat seems quite similar to this one
I thought use reverse digital pattern under each layer of digital pattern colors so to make depth but use like 5 or 6 colorsreverse shadow outside edge of squares only lightly then do squares over colored in maybe some one can have you test that pattern
blizte3 Wait. What?
WOW! so effective.
In you opinion, what is your favorite pattern and why?
Slapnuts138 Can't really say brother, I look at the environment and pick the pattern I feel will be most effective in it. Some of my personal favorites though are tiger stripe and the Rhodesian pattern.
What do you like better, MARPAT or Navy AOR2? And which do you think is more effective?
AOR2 in my opinion is lighter. Might work well for green vegetation like the kind you see, and maybe the lightened ground. But MARPAT excels in the shadows. I guess you should research them, and make your own decision. The SEALs use AOR2 and the Marines obviously use MARPAT. Both are great fighting forces with great tastes in camoflauge.
have you done the regular German flecktarn?
Yes, look at my camouflage effectiveness playlist on my channel.
+Brent0331 thanks, I found it not long after I asked, great channel BTW, I bought a set of Belgian jigsaw based on your video, my hunting buddies laughed when I told them, I've yet to try it out
The last ship comes on tnt Sunday's it's really cool hope you watch it and enjoy
How much of your body would you say is exposed during each test?
It varies from scene to scene.
Thanks! Thanks!! Thanks!!!
Romario1975 Thanks for watching brother.
Performance was comparable to M81 in this season. (Lots of browns)
Marpat learned woodlands mistake of the big black blotches the only thing I wish the marine corps did was make a multicam pattern or in fact keep the old wood land pattern but make the blotches smaller.
