Much like the downsized TIE Fighter, I find myself surprised to be enjoying the downsized X-Wing. Good value. Good build. Good Minifigures. It's not as GREAT as 2018 but it gets the job done.

@Mark Lesar The dark gray pocket on the top of the ship, behind the wings. You have to split apart the lightsaber in order for it to fit. You attach the blade to the clips and put in the hilt behind it.
@@Ladondorf Hmm...good idea, but while the hilt fits, the blade is four studs long, and because of the pieces next to the clips make the space smaller. Still, good comment.
I have to say I absolutely loved building the mechanism for the wings. Seeing it come together and figuring out how it’d operate the wings was so cool. These slightly scaled down slightly cheaper sets got me back into LSW!
I have no idea why people keep saying this X Wing is "scaled down" I looked up some stills from a New Hope and it's actually the most accurate size when compared to the character. The new tie fighter is definitely way smaller than the movie version.
You know I just thought of something. What if the whole point of this year is to make original trilogy sets downsized and more affordable and then later that year or the following year they’ll do the same for clone wars sets or sequel sets I know I would love a more affordable rebuplic gunship
I love this thing that Lego is trying to do now. they know that their lego sets have been becoming more and more expensive, and they have found that the best solution to this problem is to make these lower priced sets. I myself like to call these "value sets" because their price allows lower income families to be able to afford a lego set that is comparable to that of the more expensive sets in the past. Sure they're not as rich in detail and piece count as the other ones, and some components work different ly due to the lower piece count and design, but I think that this was a reasonable balance of both what you pay for and what you get. Lego also had to take into account that, since unemployment is skyrocketing, and covid has struck down our economy, Lego has done something remarkable to acknowledge these problems, and still allow families to continue to buy their products. I applaud you Lego, keep up the good work!
At the WalMarts near me you can get the x-wing set for $39.99 and the TIE fighter set for $32.99. That’s quite the bargain. Being able to get an x-wing and TIE fighter combo for around $75 is really awesome. I have both sets and think they’re both really cool. Especially the x-wing. Just something about the design I really like.
I'm really happy to see some cheaper versions of classic Lego Star Wars designs. I might get some flack for this but I actually love the 4 plus sets for the same reason: It gives little kids and families that can't afford the big ships a chance to still play. This and the TIE fighter are an excellent compromise.
Looks like most of that price tag is focused in the new engineering for the s-foils. I'm liking the direction Lego is heading in leaving the rubber bands in the past but we collectors seriously need a more screen accurate build in future. I'm wondering if it would be possible to mod the 2018 set with this model's gears.....
I find it weird that the princess leia minifig is holding the silver/gray blaster on the box, and general dodana has the smaller one, but in the instructions it switches them up.
I’d gladly take a boxy back end in exchange for a better, smoother, non-rubber band S-Foil mechanism. Looks like a lot of value for $50. Thanks for the great review, Ryan!
I got this for Xmas, and I really love it. There's a couple of easy improvements you can make to the set - if you remove the two 2x1 single stud plates that Artoo stands on in the droid socket, it instantly lowers Artoo a good bit behind the cockpit and looks much better, without significantly impeding the ability to remove him. I'm also adding a couple of extra shooters to the upper wings, so all four wings have a firing weapon, and I've added a curved underside piece to the nose, to clean up the lines there. Looks lovely. But I need to do something about the front landing gear - it's just too loose. The other mod I'm planning on, is adding some pieces to the plates the make up the sides of the X-Wing behind the cockpit and on the engine block, to better give that slightly hexagonal shape the X-Wing's hull has. Not sure if I'll use some slopes or curved slopes - possibly a mixture of the two, but I think it'll greatly improve the look.
I would get this for General Dodanna & Princess Leia. Great review, I was considering of getting this but I'm not completely sold on it. Putting the price aside, the build feel like its between the junior set and the regular x-wing. The engine looks very chunky, and the S-foils just feels incomplete, and the thrusters seems to come off easily. And R2 sits too high, the the landing gear doesn’t fold.
This xwing (75301) is the closes-to-minifig-scale xwing that LEGO has ever made (at least lengthwise). It’s a tad too big. But still the closest. I just wish the wings could lock in to place better.
I found the landing gear so irritating I just added one in myself. The pieces in the gap arent essential so you can remove them without sacrificing integrity. Didnt even take that many pieces
