  • The 3rd LEGO Star Wars UCS X-Wing Starfighter is among us. It's alright. For casual & newer LEGO Star Wars fans it's the perfect time to release the iconic Starfighter however it still has a few flaws and most importantly FALSE ADVERTISING. It's a good value at $240 compared to the 2013 UCS X-Wing and if you can look past some despicable marketing practices/a couple questionable design choices you'll be very happy with this one.

    7:26 It isn't illegal because tiles are slightly thinner than regular plates, so it means that there is less pressure on them and a smaller chance of them breaking or bending because of it

      Also, no studs on tiles. Part of the problem with wedging a plate between studs is that the studs of the two plates interfere, preventing the plate being fully seated or forcing it at a slight angle.

    Few things Ryan. In terms of the x wing being white at the tip, remember we are seeing a Lego designers version of a studio model. That studio model would have had weathering particularly on the tip that would give the illusion of it being a different colour. However it is supposed to be the same colour if it were fresh off the factory floor and considering lego can’t do weathering on pieces very well they made a design decision for white.

I mean they could’ve still included the minifigure version on the stand, but used the bigger dome piece to make R2 look like he belongs in the X wing at this scale! All I’m saying is I’m betting that polybag is gonna get a bit of a price bump when people start MOCing and modifying this set! 😂

    Regarding that missing piece, I've assembled around 100 Lego kits and have experienced a missing piece only one time and it was a similar situation as with MandR where there is an extra unneeded piece and a missing piece.
    I'm certain they use weighing machines to help count their pieces, which explains why we get an extra piece in place of a missing one because if the kits were simply missing a piece, the scale would reveal that.
    Point is if you are simply missing a piece and don't have an extra piece, it's most likely you're missing pieces under your couch

      I've got about 50 or so and have had a missing piece in about 3 of them and 1 had a piece that was messed up. It was a small plate piece and it looked like something heavy fell on the corner of it and dented it. It wouldn't let the piece next to it sit flush bc once it was dented a piece of it was bowed out slightly. I order a new one but fixed it before the piece got here. I just tapped it with a hammer. You can't see the piece so it didn't matter to me that it was slightly messed up. Of the 3 or so times I had a piece missing, only once did I have an extra piece of another kind. I might have got more than 50 sets but the first 30 or so of them, I didn't have 1 missing piece and then once it happened, within the next 10 or 15 sets it happened 2 more times.

    The nose cone is supposed to be an off white: closer to a tan than the previous models that had it grey. The engines are slightly too big, however much better looking that the 2013 version which have the engines the same size as the thrusters. I dont think the ship looks too fat, I think the front is too short. It looks like it needs another inch. The R2 is too small but it is in both the other versions as well. It definitely sits to low, which i believe should be easy to fix. I am going to try and use the bag R2 see if i can get that to look better, although i think it will be too big. I am not sure editing the injection mold point out of the image is false advertising. It’s very common for marketers to alter imagery for promotional purposes. Cars are a great consumer product example. Vehicles are often shown at auto shows with production “intent” paint and features that never actually show up on production units. The piece shown on the box does accurately represent the content and imagery found inside the box. Legally, I believe, this would be hard to nail down as actual false advertising. However, your point about Lego having the ability to move the injection point is interesting to consider. It could be the relatively thin profile of the piece makes that tough to do in production. The sample piece you refer to is much thicker and moving the injection point seems far easier to accomplish. Let’s hope Lego is listening to all of these comments and is looking for ways to move the injection point at some point for future UCS sets. It is nice to no longer worry about a sticker.

      @The First Curse They didn't include the option to remove the bubble turrets because the gunship ALWAYS HAD THEM in AOTC and ROTS. If Lego was to include the option to remove them and replace them with the Clone Wars style doors, they would have to change so much of the set to not only cover up the main bay doors but also the doors behind the cockpit AND make sure that the model looked good, remained stable, and was functional, all of which would increase the price far more than it already was. The UCS gunship is an amazingly accurate model with figures that, while not particularly desirable, are accurate to a somewhat memorable scene with gunships in AOTC, that being when Mace first meets with Commander Ponds.

      As for the minifigures, there's literally NO excuse for what they did. The fans voted for this set, and they rushed it and it doesn't look as good as other UCS sets. Then they put in the completely wrong and incorrect mini figures that don't work with the set and look horrible with it. THEN they make incorrect and shitty hostile comments about it, basically spitting on their fans.
      They sabotaged this set.

      @CloneCommanderCrater1102 Год назад +1

      @The First Curse First off, MOCs don't have to be designed to be stable, which they often aren't, whereas Lego sets HAVE to be designed to be completely stable. Secondly, I agree that them not complying with the fan vote was wrong, but as I said before, the figures DO make sense with the set (though I personally think it should have just come with two pilots). Lastly, name a single damn comment made by the Lego Group that was hostile. They made a SINGLE wrong comment about the commander doubling as a pilot, but they NEVER said anything that was "basically spitting on their fans." Get off your high horse and stop complaining and blowing the most miniscule things out of proportion over a beautiful looking rendition of the LAAT/i Gunship..

    With R2D2, the R2 minifig isn't actually to scale with human minifigs, and I don't think it looks as bad as a larger dome would have. I placed a 1x1 round tile underneath R2 and it looks a lot better with him sat that little bit higher.

    @asc3nded397 Год назад +1

    On your comment about illegal building techniques and what is and isn’t considered one. An illegal building technique is specifically a way of interlocking the pieces in a way that creates unintended strain that can lead to bricks breaking and warping. The technique used in the engines is not an illegal technique because it doesn’t put any extra strain on the pieces though if they did that with plates instead of tiles it would be illegal.

    I loved building this set and I think it looks great despite some of the scale flaws, but the one thing that really disappointed me after finishing the build was realizing that the cockpit doesn't close when you seat Luke in the pilot seat. Seriously wtf Lego.... At this price point you should be able to seat Luke in the X-wing. You can fit him in there if you have him almost lying down, but it seems like a major oversight to not allow him to sit in the cockpit seat with a closed canopy.

    Let's be real a moment, while the photoshop incident deserves LEGO getting a wrist slap, the mark itself is not a big deal. When viewing the info plaque from a regular distance, 99% of people won't see the injection mark. If you're standing about three or so feet away, the dot completely disappears -- you'll just see the plaque, read The Logo and that it's an X-Wing, and move on to what's really important: the X-Wing itself.
    It's a VERY impressive X-Wing, and yeah, those engines are a little too big, R2 is WAY TOO small (so don't bother putting him in there). Yet, there's a lot to admire. This is the best looking UCS X-Wing to date by a mile if you compare them in person. I have this one side-mounted so its in a bank turn, and it is really a focal point of the room where I've placed it. It's just an iconic ship built at an epic size with some great details.
    Best thing is that its LEGO. If you want to change things...grab some LEGO pieces and edit to your heart's content.

    Looks wise, this is an absolutely amazing set. It makes my shelf objectively better with it than without. But this was the worst build experience of any Lego product I have EVER built! By a long way. The hull panels are held together by two 1x2 bricks which dislodge after every minor bump, and reattaching them is not easy and will usually mean knocking off other panels.
    Parts from the stand also pop off for no apparent reason, but the two pieces that have fallen off so far don't seem to be necessary to the overall build so I've just left them off.
