      You seem to have the only copy I have seen on RUclips where the wings can actually touch and completely close. I noticed that some images in the background info section of the instruction manual show the wings completely closed, but I'm pretty sure if you follow the instructions the wings end up with a large gap in-between. Did you get a pre-release version that is slightly different?

    The current engines are actually more or less correctly scaled with the actual ship (maybe just slightly too large, but that’s just a limitation of the medium) it just looks weird because the engines on most previous LEGO X-Wings were way too small. This one’s engines are the closest to correct we’ve ever gotten in LEGO. Also you had a good point about the wings, they might be a bit too short which makes it look a little weird. Plus R2 is tiny which also makes the engines look bigger than they actually are.

      Honestly, it’s a shame that printed pieces aren’t standard for every Lego set. Lego is selling premium priced products, especially when it comes to their SW line. The fact that they use stickers doesn’t reflect that.

    • @Silver_007_DM
      @Silver_007_DM Год назад

      @@zennar1537 Well Printed pieces cost money and LEGO can not keep up with printed pieces in every set they have other sets to do and lego does 100+ plus sets a year and they ain't cheap and yes it is a premium product but you buy it for the building experience wnd it's not about the printing/sticker pieces all the time and I get what your saying I also hate stickers and something I don't even put stickers in the set but you admire the lego designer's hard work in the set not the stickers

    • @derkaiser9881
      @derkaiser9881 Год назад +15

      @@Silver_007_DM Almost ran out of breath reading that. God damn.
      To expand on your points:
      It is a bit weird to assume everyone is buying a UCS kit for the build experience. Not everyone is doing that, some people just want a nice display model, and some people are younger and want to "swoosh" it around their room (of course depending on the kit). I'm sure some people out there purchase UCS kits for the build experience, but to that I have to ask--would it not be a better build experience to work with printed pieces over stickers?
      Lego does a lot of sets a year, but they're also an 11.8 billion dollar company selling a premium product. They're cheaping out and I don't like that. Sell me something expensive that's worth it, don't half-ass it.
      And finally, you can admire a designers work while being annoyed with sticker usage. I do quite like how the X-Wing looks, but I don't like that it requires sticker usage on critical areas. Do not forget there is nuance to this sorta thing. UCS, I'd argue, is primarily aimed at adults. Adults who are absolutely going to be more critical of smaller details.
      TL;DR - not everyone buys UCS kits for the build experience, if they are printed pieces would make for a superior build experience. You can admire a designers work and dislike the inclusion of stickers in a premium product designed by a multibillion dollar corporation.

    I can't be the only one that absolutely hates the scale of this thing. Engines too big, s-foils too short and jut out from the engines with a big gap, they also open way too much, the nose isn't as angled as it should be looking down, the canopy is also... wow, too small and not angled at all, flashback suppressors are silly, but ugly. I mean, look at the s-foil mechanism. It barely uses any technic, which explains why it looks so... flimsy.
    You would think after over 20 years of making X-Wing sets they could develop some new pieces and get some of the basic details correct. They've been using the same canopy for 23 years and haven't updated it a single time, but they made a specialized windscreen for the Landspeeder?

    Not sure how many others out there feel this way, but I would much prefer minifigure scale starfighters for UCS sets. I get it that you get more "wow" factor and more details with a larger model, but they take up too much display space and it bothers me that they don't match the scale of the larger minfigure scale UCS sets like the Falcon or AT-AT. Obviously you can't have larger capital ships in the same scale, but I think it would be good to have as much of a unified scale as possible among the UCS sets. I'm 47 and only started buying Lego collector sets recently, so I don't have very many sets. I have the UCS AT-AT and I'm considering the UCS Falcon and the Razorcrest. I've been thinking about getting some starfighters to go with them and at this point I'm most likely going to end up getting some MOC minifigure scale fighters. They will cost me similar money or maybe more than the UCS fighters, but they scale better (and in some cases look better) than the UCS sets which is more important to me. I would rather buy official UCS sets with plaques and exclusive minifigures, but they are just way too large imo. I really hope Lego considers smaller UCS starfighter sets going forward, but if they just released this new X-Wing I imagine they plan to continue to do the other starfighters in the same scale.

    I do think the one thing that people forget is that you're not building a traditional model set. its LEGO, if you don't like the wing length or the lack of landing gear then modify them on your own! I will personally be redesigning the wings on my X-wing to be a few studs longer, and I might add landing gear but i'm not sure yet. Don't let the build get in the way of you making it the way YOU wanna make it, you can always change it back anyway.

    What I'm looking forward to see is if anyone sticks the larger R2D2 head on this set from the 30611 polybag - the biggest issue I have with the set with the S-foils out is how invisible and out of scale R2 is, and I can't help but wonder if too big would be better than too small - on par with the engines - what I think this set really needed was a new 3x3 R2 head and some slopes/arches for the tops of his legs, rather than a minifigure (which could just be included on the stand)

    Just finished mine and I am.pretty pissed about the way the wings are attached. Not just the way the brown pims are visible. I can live with that. It is the huge cap between the wings and the fusalage. I check the instructions multiple times, maybe i should have move the tech bricks a little further in, but that isnt the case. It is a major design flaw. That plus the enormous gap between the wings. Not something I cared a lot about, but it adds up. Also all the gaps between the segments arent great. Not sure but I thing some enhanced 2x1 plates could have fixed this. Then there are the caps between the canopy and the cockpit. And not to forget the gaps between the cylinder parts on the lasers. That is there ok, but it is photoshopped away on the box art. False advertising, just as with the moldmark on the plaque. Ok I like the way they did the hexagonshape alright, and so all the details. But the proportions are way off. Without the wings attached, it looks like something my wife has hidden in her nightstand for some private time. The big bulky nose makes that comparisment even stronger. I am afraid I am not the one in the family who will play with this. But then again...when you grap it at the wromg spot (underneath the wings at the panels), parts will fall off. Just as with the stand. Any positive about this set? Well like I said, details are great. Cockpit is noce. Engine are good. Hexagon shape is very well done. Price for the amount of stuff is better than the 2013 one. The printed plaque besides the false advertisement is still a huge improvement in comparisment with a sticker. The turnknob is a clever design. The wings do lock innposition. Some other minor flaws: no landing gear and R2d2 is not at scale. Btw, it is easy to fix the issue with r2d2 not able to peek outside its compartment. I added a spare round tile on it's bottom, which gives r2d2 just the right height. Simple as that. Well better li k next time. I just feel stupid I didnt wait for more reviews. Nothing wrong with the review in here, but every person sees other things. Well at least it isnt a total rip-off. It is just not the best Lego could have designed. Maybe I am.just spoiled with some other recent big sets like the razor crest.

    Biggest problem I have with this model is there are more models that need a new UCS update / version. B-Wing, Imperial shuttle, Tie interceptor, Tie Advanced, OR ones we haven't seen yet, U-wing, The Ghost, GR-75 Transport, Hammerhead or even an updated X-Wing T-70 (maybe in Poe black).
    While I dont dislike this kit (aside from the engines) I just feel Lego could have waited a few more years before an update and given new life to kits that are not on a 3rd version.

    Having seen that they got the angle to go down the whole length of the thing and not just the standard big hinge bricks making these sharper angles, that makes a huge difference in my opinion of the set because the official images really don't capture that detail. One quality of life thing with the set that I would change though is the nose, and not so much the size, but the color would be better if it were gray. The X-Wing is a difficult ship in Star Wars to replicate colorwise because technically it is white, but there's so much grit and grime slapped on it that it looks more gray, and so there's really just no way to emphasize that since LEGO never decided to expand their Very Light Gray palette that was only really relegated to tiny pieces in obscure mosaics and a few Bionicle sets, but had the nose been gray, that helps differentiate it from the rest of the ship, and perhaps that sloping would have been more noticeable and really helped sell it through the official images. I don't know. It's not a set for me, but I have a greater appreciation for it than what the official images conveyed. If ever I were to get a UCS X-Wing, it would probably be the original from 2000 if I could get it at a decent price. That's just the era of LEGO Star Wars I enjoy most because it's what I grew up with, and not to knock a number of sets these days, but we've left the realm of Star Wars made of LEGO and just gone into Star Wars replicas that happen to be LEGO, even the playsets, and a lot of charm is missing in newer sets, despite how incredible they look, that is felt in most 15+ years old LEGO Star Wars sets, including the UCS X-Wing from 2000, dreaded STAMPs and all.

    Easily should have included a brickbuilt R2 to make him in scale. I could be wrong, but to me a 3x3 (not sure if that exists though) or 4x4 dome for his head rather than the minifgure's 2x2 would be much better scaled. That way they could still have included the minifigure too. For a UCS set, slapping a minifigure R2 in a gap feels VERY low effort.

    • @JaviBee
      @JaviBee Год назад

      4x4 would look way too big though and then you’d have people complaining about that instead of just getting a nice minifig. 3x3 would be the ideal size probably but there aren’t any elements that could make a dome that size in Lego right now

    The thing that I love about lego. Is that if you had a massive bin of Legos, you could build this without buying the set. Yeah probably alot of it won't have the right colors. But that could be cool too. Maybe you could call it a " Jaku x wing scrap fighter " and pretend that it was put together of different crashes x Wings from different squadrons. The only thing you'd have a hard time finding would be the windshield piece. Idk where you would find a windshield piece like that unless you just got that piece from lego. But that's what I used to do as a kid. I had a huge bin of Legos and some that used to be star wars sets. So I had some of the cockpit pieces laying around and I ended up finding the old instructions and started building the ships. Found most of the right colors because of how many Legos I actually had but some of them were made of lots of different colors and although it wasn't cannon or seen in star wars like that. I was still playing eith a star wars ship that I wasn't playing with before I built it. Legos are amazing

    Nice review, I plan on getting this set. I hear the complaints about the engines. I think they look closer to the actual X-Wing but the problem is that they stiffed on the wing length. I'd say it could almost be perfect if they were about 4 studs longer at least. Then the nose, man, when will we ever get the correct nose slant?! But the more geometrical sides are a win for LEGO.

    Just an FYI for people interested in this set. I purchased this set during the May the 4th, 2024 sale and my set seems to have fixed some of the issues. The canopy piece was now in it's own bag so no scratches and the instruction manual images showing you how to pick it up have been fixed. The stand is still exactly the same as in this review from what I can tell, but it does not fall apart. I have had the set on my desk for a few weeks and it shakes quite a bit from my movements and it has never fallen apart even once and seems pretty sturdy. Not sure if they tweaked the tolerances on those slope parts or what but mine are fine.

    My opinions on the X-wing after watching this video: Both the 2013 and 2023 models are overpriced. Just because the last one's value was trash doesn't excuse bad value on the new model, especially during record sales for LEGO. There should NOT be any stickers in UCS models, seriously. The engines aren't too big when compared to the source material, but the wings are wayyyyyy too short. The nose should've been at most 3 studs wide at the very tip, so it looks very inaccurate and lame. It also should have been light grey, like every other X-wing we've ever gotten. Overall, you're better off building your own model. Don't even get me started on the fact that the windscreen piece isn't protected in the box. The new Luke fig is good though. R2 is scaled terribly when placed in the cavity, but it looks fine.

    I don't like the overal looks of this set. Compare it to the UCS Y-wing and you can just tell the Y-wing is put together in a much better way with more detail especially on the bottom side of the model. I'm not sure if the X-wing's engines are slightly too big but because R2 is just way too small it looks odd, same as the general detailing on the inside of the wings.
    I guess I'll need to wait another 10 years until LEGO gets it right.
