The stud shooters on the side of the 2018 x-wing are a great addition. They add to design and accuracy as they are meant to (and I think do a good job of) represent the proton torpedo tubes that are on the actual fighter. Also not bad for playability, definitely utilized far better than most stud/spring loaded shooters are. I really like my 2018 model, and while I don’t think the 2021 one is bad I didn’t pick it up and think it is for sure a downgrade.

Ever since I have watched your vids and they make me laugh most of the time. My favorites are the news videos. Also, this was a great comparison. Keep it up!
I think the reason they decided to make another X-Wing and Tie Fighter for this year because 1.This is the new direction for Lego to scale down things to be more affordable. So this is kinda experimental wave and they wanna try it with X-Wing and Tie Fighter first because both are iconic ships from Original Trilogy which is "universal love" for Star Wars fans. (And that's the same reason why they keep making OT stuff more than the prequel and sequel I guess) 2.These are the models that gonna be use this in the upcoming Skywalker Saga game. So the 2018 sets will be outdated Amd there might be a demand for these sets when the game releases.

I love the 2021 version, cause it is more affordable and great. I don't think it is that flimsy and I am so happy they did not include the rubber bands.
The 2018 definitely more accurate but it always felt really bulky, I prefer the cheaper, sleeker new one. Plus, the price of the new one makes it great for Moc builders
Even though I thought the 2018 helmets seemed proportion at first, they are actually pretty accurate when you watch the scenes with the pilots wearing their large helmets. I still really like the classic helmets, but when it comes to changes why would they reverse these helmets and not the stormtrooper helmets that are much more aesthetically problematic?
I started getting back into LEGO recently, having sold all my LEGO from my youth, all my sets are of recent. I cannot wait to pick up the x-wing and the tie-fighter.
I really like the new smaller designed tie fighter. The 2018 one is pretty large on display when compared to other ships on the shelf, and the 2021 surprisingly maintains the epic, classic look of the ties. This 2021 xwing not so much. The nose is odd, the landing gear has no movement, and R2D2 sits too high up. I’ll just bricklink General Dodonna.
I like that the 2021 version looks more cleaner/streamline (in my opinion). In a way I don't think it's so bad that it's shed some parts. Makes it less of a fat boy
He says that the new one is less durable because when he twists it it moves more, that just means It’s more flexible not durable, durable would be twisting it until it broke and seeing which broke first, to test a breaking point, you must reach it. He Also did the same durability thing with the noses of them and the old one broke where the new one bent, there is something to be said about flexibility and it improves durability, it does not detract.
As much as I love my 2018 xwing, I gotta appreciate LEGO granting price drops to classic Star Wars fighters like this. Lowering the cost of entry is always good
I was really impressed with the 2021 X-Wing, like the price is great for what you get and how it looks. I think the only problems are sturdiness and maybe some details like the cockpit, or back section.
@@MandRproductions haha, I think I was one of them!! Still tho, love these sort of videos, and it's remarkable how much of a close call this is. I mean, you can't really beat it right?
It’s a tricky question, it seems to me like if this line of cheaper sets does well they might stick to the scale, and larger models might be a rarer occasion, though it’s just speculation
I liked the stud shooters because they were in the same spot as the proton torpedoes. I didn't like the spring shooters on the wing because it didn't have four guns on the wings in the movies. I like accuracy over playability
I actually like the 2021 model more. It's got better colors, a better wing opening mechanism, a sleeker design, less spring loaded shooters, a better minifig selection with no chunky big helmets, better cannons, and overall much more affordable.
If I wanted the 2018 version, it would be more than $80 because it is retired right now, I am sticking with the 2021 version and getting it right after it comes out
I bought the 2018 Model on clearance for 50€, I think this was a great deal and way better than the 2021 model. I own the Tantive IV, so no need for Leia, but Dodonna is cool so I'm gonna buy him on BrickLink when widely available.

I honestly feel like the new one looks a little better and more accurately scaled.
Me: just got the 2018 x-wing delivered for $100
Lego: let’s release another x-wing with great minifigs for only $50
Me:😤
2018 better anyways
Hey Ryan, you probably wont see this comment, but I wanted to tell you that you are my favorite youtuber and you are a great person. The first video of yours I saw was your 2017 collection. Ever since I have watched your vids and they make me laugh most of the time. My favorites are the news videos. Also, this was a great comparison. Keep it up!
Thanks man!!! :)
Wow
I think that the new x wing is good but what is bad is the selection because of there being like 20 xwings
I like this new direction. This may be the start of a new era where LEGO remakes sets but they make them more affordable.
I think the reason they decided to make another X-Wing and Tie Fighter for this year because
1.This is the new direction for Lego to scale down things to be more affordable.
So this is kinda experimental wave and they wanna try it with X-Wing and Tie Fighter first because both are iconic ships from Original Trilogy which is "universal love" for Star Wars fans.
(And that's the same reason why they keep making OT stuff more than the prequel and sequel I guess)
2.These are the models that gonna be use this in the upcoming Skywalker Saga game. So the 2018 sets will be outdated
Amd there might be a demand for these sets when the game releases.
That 2018 helmet looks awful. I’m so glad they changed back, if only they would do the same with the new stormtrooper 😢
The new stormtrooper helmet is sooo close to perfection, the chin is the only part that ruins it.
Don’t we all
@@leanmeangreenbeanmachine3347 I would like it if the chin wasn’t the way it is cause the duel moulded eyes are pretty cool I’d just rather have the old one cause I hate how you can’t turn it, especially for stop motions
@@eyemem5080 so true 😢
@@MandoStudios yeah I have to use my sand troopers for stop motion because I don’t have any other ones
The 2018 build with the 2021 minifigures would be legendary
Do another comparison of all x wings
I agree
He just did that a year ago, and it took a really long time for him to make it, he also said in a couple videos he would not do it
@@the1andonlyjawa yeah I know it would be too much
Maybe in a couple years. I just did that so i don't really want to get all that together again. Plus I think I need a bigger table lol I'll get one when I move.
@@MandRproductions I figured it was mostly a joke
the new model isn't that much smaller, its 30 dollars less, and in my opinion the colors look better and less messy to me. Why were x wings so expensive in the first place? They clearly don't need to be.
Its based on brick count
The new one is significantly better imo, only gripe is that strip of studs on the nose
@@CommunityFan it isn't tho.
@@unchartedchartz it is, everything is, if something costs more to make and has more in it, its going to be more expensive, the more the bricks, the more the price
@@CommunityFan obviously the more pieces the more it will cost, but price per piece doesn't exist. You can sometimes get a correlation between price and piece count but size also matters (That's what she said). Its the reason that the mosaics only have about 1000 pieces less than the imperial star destroyer but cost 5x less.
I love the 2021 version, cause it is more affordable and great. I don't think it is that flimsy and I am so happy they did not include the rubber bands.
Yes me toooo
The new one looks sleeker, and has a better/ more accurate wing function! It’s cheaper too! I see this as an absolute win!
you can almost buy 2 for the price of the old one
The 2018 definitely more accurate but it always felt really bulky, I prefer the cheaper, sleeker new one. Plus, the price of the new one makes it great for Moc builders
Even though it has less play features the 2021 model is closer to minifig scale and that's what I'm here for.
Even though I thought the 2018 helmets seemed proportion at first, they are actually pretty accurate when you watch the scenes with the pilots wearing their large helmets. I still really like the classic helmets, but when it comes to changes why would they reverse these helmets and not the stormtrooper helmets that are much more aesthetically problematic?
yo I just wanted to mention, that plate that you "pulled off" showing the durability of the new model was already disconnected
nice to read that in Master Kenobis voice
Lol
The 2021 is good looking and has a nice price and better figures, but the model for 2018 is definitely better
I started getting back into LEGO recently, having sold all my LEGO from my youth, all my sets are of recent. I cannot wait to pick up the x-wing and the tie-fighter.
You can get the tie fighter for 30 bucks at target. Honestly a massive steal
11:01 this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard you say.
A bit of fun...
Even tho I have the 2018 one I'm still gonna get the new one so I can get the general dodonna and I'll have a small little X wing squadron
I like the new "low budget wave" its pretty neat
I really like the new smaller designed tie fighter. The 2018 one is pretty large on display when compared to other ships on the shelf, and the 2021 surprisingly maintains the epic, classic look of the ties. This 2021 xwing not so much. The nose is odd, the landing gear has no movement, and R2D2 sits too high up. I’ll just bricklink General Dodonna.
Everyone: talking about how the new X-wing is only $50
Me: *laughs in Amazon clearance*
I like that the 2021 version looks more cleaner/streamline (in my opinion). In a way I don't think it's so bad that it's shed some parts. Makes it less of a fat boy
My favorite part is at the very end when Ryan finally takes a breath.
Surely I wasn’t the only one who saw a minor difference on R2 head prints
Yeah I noticed that too
1:10 Starts flying a rebel helmet
I don't get it pls explain lol
@@thesmashgamer4896 lol same
What u mean
I think you should do a comparison if all the tie fighters and all the x wings then see which group is better
Dude, great video, but seriously, my ocd was screaming at 3 of the engine intakes on the 75218 being the wrong way round haha 😂
Oh my god I still didn’t fix that did I? I remember getting comments for it two years ago 😂😂😂😂
@@MandRproductions haha, I think I was one of them!! Still tho, love these sort of videos, and it's remarkable how much of a close call this is. I love the 2018 one, I think the attention to detail on colours and stickers and such from Luke's Red 5 is phenomenal, so overall, it's still my favourite, but... the new one is great and £45 in the UK. I mean, you can't really beat it right?
I see this comment I look at my 2018 x wing and saw that I did the exact same thing
The 2018 xwing stud shooters are placed nicely
LEGO learned their lesson on the rebel pilot helmets, yet they keep making the ridiculous huge stormtrooper helmets...
When you look at both of them from far away they look the exact same. Ironic...
lol your right XD
Ye but 2018 version is better
You got the wrong droid for Bigs . That one is from the 2018 UCS Y-Wing.
I thought I had the 2018 version but turns out mine is way back from 2012! There have been a lot of these haven’t there.
"R2-D2 is a figure that comes every year , you probably al ready have one"
Sad Noises
When might we expect to get another version of the 2018 version? Like same pricepoint and scale?
It’s a tricky question, it seems to me like if this line of cheaper sets does well they might stick to the scale, and larger models might be a rarer occasion, though it’s just speculation
Next year lol.
@@Nicolas-gt2dj Thanks!
Honestly if we were gonna get ANOTHER X-wing so soon, I would have appreciated a Re-, Re-release of the UCS X-wing
I think lego should release 2 UCS sets each year. One set should be a new UCS set and the second one should remaster an old one.
You’re actually wrong about r2 being to high on the new one that’s actually more accurate than the 2018 one
Yeah for some reason people keep saying it is less accurate
Almost. Took a look at snapshots from the movie, and R2D2 needs to be one stud lower in the 2021 set.
True but you get what I mean right he’s more accurate like this than other ones
The r2-d2s are a bit different the so called eye, the white but is facing a different direction
Damn, that was banger deal. Mind you, that you’re was a deal and not the retail value
Any one who is looking for good retired lego Star Wars sets go on game stop all the 20th anavercery sets yoda’s hut and the droid gun ship and others are under retail hurry
And if you're unable to get it from Gamestop, you can price match them at Target! Dalek Bricks has a video on this about the Harry Potter sets that were on sale from a couple months ago.
The Yoda statue is one of the other sets that's really down from retail as well.
All the gamestop sets are unavailable in my area? anything I can do or how do I price match on Target? Really wanna snag that droid gunship for $35!
@@Deaathless but you can do pick up at your store
I think the back of the 2018 one is more accurate, but i like the back of the 2021 x-wing more
hey i have a stormtrooper alarm clock a darth vader alarm clock, and a yoda alarm clock
Don't you see M&R? The 2021 X-Wing is Paying Homage to the 1990's X-Wing! With the Disks on the Cannons, the Squared Back, no Stud Shooters on the Sides, everything.
I liked the 2018 helmet 🤔 it is sad that they switched back 😕 (my opinion)
Agreed. The visor being molded instead of printed was a huge plus.
@@flynncarter229 well i don't hear anyone hating on the newer style 2-piece darth vader helmet. It's bigger and more goofy than the original darth vader helmet.
@@flynncarter229 yeah I prefer the new vader helmet as well but the reason I brought it up is because both it and the dual molded x-wing pilot helmet are bigger and more goofy than their predecessors. For some reason though, people hate on the x-wing pilot helmet but not the vader one.
Did anyone else notice that Ryan used R2-BHD instead of R2-Q2?
Honestly I really like the newer X-Wing. The minifig selection is 10x better (plus I’m not a fan of the 2018 helmets) and the more affordable price while still retaining a sleek design honestly makes me appreciate the newer one more. Don’t own an x-wing yet but since it’s $50 retail I might pick it up day 1
You know, this was actually a lot closer than I had expected in terms of comparisons. You brought up a lot of really good points; I had thought the 2021 would win in a landslide but dang, this was definitely close :)
2018 looks so chunky in comparison. And chunkiness doesn’t fit an X-Wing to me. 2018 certainly has perks in design, but so does 2021.
Combine!
An xwing is pretty thick, not the most skinniest of things
The 2021 version looks like there going back to the the 2012 x wing
my 7 yo son built the 2018 model this weekend. I have been saving it for him for when he was old enough. It was a great build and it looks amazing. Im tempted to build my Red5 X-Wing now!
Wow, finally a dome print update! Look closely at the two squares beside the 'eye' of ma boi
Honestly, if they were a bit further apart, I would like them, but now having them so close, I would say they are the same at first glance.
I actually preferred the larger helmet, since it's more detailed and I'm sad they never released another set with it.
The S-Foils are more accurate on the new one since they connect in the middle.
Where do they connect?...I saw him pick it up and there was a nice gap between the wings in flight mode which bugs me otherwise id prolly pick this one up
@@chadlanger6409 I mean in the center of the ship the wings cross like an actual X
I like the new printing on R2!
I know it’s been 2 years, but I just picked up this set before it retired and actually the 2021 set is slightly more accurate, converting the actual length of the ship to minifig scale, it should be about 32.4cm, and that one is 31cm while the 2018 one is 34cm
* S-Foil comes off easily * Lego: it's more accurate this way, when the X-Wing gets shot down in a dogfight!
