    As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement ruclips.net/user/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!

    Love you’re teaching style. Very clear and all the good tips. I watched this because I do -exactly- the same thing, even have my own brackets made up by a local welder - very similar to yours but a longer tail on the plate to help prevent leverage issues. In the UK most walls are plaster on brick, but I still strip the plaster back to sit the plate on brick. I backfill and decorate before measuring and drilling the shelves. I also make solid shelves which you could park a truck on!

    Just a work of caution to check for wiring and/or plumbing running through wall studs. These are typicality run through bored holes in the middle of studs. The 2” screws will short a wire or puncture a pipe if present. Good info on installing the floating shelf.

    @bourbonmothwoodworking this tutorial is great and I appreciate you making it. Just a word of warning if you aren’t going to have custom made brackets to exact measurements and are using stock lumber (1.5” thick), the brackets you buy online (I purchased the ones in his description) you will have gaps above and below your shelf that you will need to patch as the brackets are just slightly larger than the lumber.
    Everything about the tutorial is spot on though, even when you are wingin it and find your drywall is held up by furring strips on concrete and you gotta adjust on the fly 😂.

    Those steel brackets are great - but be careful with a 2"+ screw - there could be wires or water pipes that run through the centre of the studs (code allows for this, meaning it could be as close as 1 3/8" away from the front edge!) Nailplates would likely only be used if the hole was closer than than 1 1/4" from the front, so the long screw is strong, but a tiny bit of a gamble if you're not sure what's back there!

    • @chandler3992
      @chandler3992 Год назад +4

      Hey contractor here. You'll know if there's wire or pipe running through something typically wire is not run any higher than 18" for outlets and approximately 42" for a switch. If wire is being run it will be about level with the outlets. Typically wire is run down the side of a 2×4. So in other words you will not hit a wire unless your electrician was on crack. As for pipes the only pipes you should find in a wall should be around anything that requires water. Pipes are run basically from a to b "path of least resistance". Here in Florida it's buried in concrete or run through the ceiling down to your bathrooms and kitchens.

    First, love your channel! Why? Well stuff like this is why. Your ability to break complex tasks down to the essential, simple steps to complete is next level teaching for sure. At 68, I'll never be a pro, but I am getting smarter, thanks for that!

    Mr. Moth, thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge on floating shelves. I wanted this beautiful pair that I saw a while back, but did not buy them because I had put some up the old way, and they literally fell off the wall so I decided these were not for me. BUT NOW, "LISTEN TO THE ANGELS SINGING " YOU HAVE SHOWN ME THE WAY!!!!!!! I FOUND THAT SET OF SHELVES (AFTER ALL THIS TIME - THAT WAS LUCK) AND I AM BANGING AWAY, JUST BANGING AWAY! THANKS DUDE! This was very simply illustrated and very helpful! Cutting the small piece of drywall is MAGIC.... I really learned something new and I'm excited about doing my shelves this weekend! THANKS AGAIN! I just subscribed!

    Great video of showing how to re-do something (correctly). Good pace, explanations and demo of techniques and use of tools. Thanks - learned from this.

    Dude, you are awesome! Love making it ‘light’ and not stuffy! So, your suggestion for mounting on big tile that is already there? Cut out the hole (drill a hole?). Either way, great vid, thank!
