      lol “just glue them to the wall” would’ve sufficed. I imagine my 100 year old plaster walls will hold up well when having to take a crowbar to them to remove these later on

      And how to patch a wall

    • @skeetorkiftwon
      @skeetorkiftwon 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@mjf508Best way to install a floating shelf is to use 8" long half inch lag bolts. Drill into your studs, on a level line, 3" plus the thickness of your drywall. Cut the heads off the lags. Drill 1/2" holes into the center edge of 5/4" pine boards as deep as you can where they are marked for where the lags are in the wall, on center for your project, hammer the board onto the lags with, or without glue, then slide your floating shelf over the board, level front to back and use trim screws or 18gauge nails/staples to hold the shelf onto the pine board.
      To remove: remove screws, slide off still reusable shelf, cut the pine board off the lags, use a vice grip to remove lags, patch 1/2" holes.
      Total cost besides the purchased shelf: $25 for four lags and a 5/4"x6"x8' board
      Or glue the whole shelf to the wall with this $30+ metal fiasco.

      @@wilsy19 Sadly you need to reach the front side of the bracket to be able to remove the screws. So you would need to rip the whole shelf off of the wall in order to reach the screws, thus destroying the wall.

    • @angelitoroshanth
      @angelitoroshanth Год назад +2

      LACK shelves have one hole each below, to fix it to the brackets from sliding outwards. For that you have to make sure that those holes in the brackets are facing down while fixing it onto the wall, or you have to fix the brackets all over again.

    So you don't get to take the shelf down since you more or less glued it to the wall. Also wouldn't you want to try and get at least one of those wall mounts screwed into a wall stud?

      OK if LACK shelf is a permanent fixture, but not if to be removed at later date. Try inserting 2 @ long plastic wall plug in the hole, add Lack shelf and screws at least it doesn't wiggle and can be removed later.

  • @Laura-kg9le
    @Laura-kg9le Год назад +5

    I'd like to see if it wiggles when you try to make it do so. I just installed a large ikea lack shelf. The mount is secure but it's the prongs coming out that are questionable. I want to make sure I've done an OK job. It wiggles a bit

    • @brainslugged7957
      @brainslugged7957 Год назад +1

      I just mounted a 190cm long one yesterday. I mounted it upside down because the shelf is high up and and I didn't want to be able to see the screws from below. There's a little wiggle though so I was worried it could have had something to do with it being upside down. I guess I'll just leave it as is seeing as the wiggle seems to be a design feature 😂

    • @billybobs1705

      doesn't matter if it wiggles a bit, if you don't want that to happen don't use floating shelves use traditional ones

    Using adhesive doesn't sound like a good Idea, I fitted one of these, yes there is a small amount of movement, not enough to glue the shelf.

  • @CurtisM-vu7zb

    3 inch screws into the studs, why glue it? The shelf will break before the screw or stud does.

    Hi, I'm a complete DIY newbie, and I need some advice on installing this shelf model on the wall of my living room. Here in Ireland, the walls are made of drywall, and I'll need to drill some holes to install the wall plugs required to attach the shelf. I've noticed that when I knock on certain spots on the wall, the sound is duller, like there might be a stud or something behind it. Should I be concerned about this? Is it possible that there's something behind the wall that shouldn't be drilled into, and that I should avoid making holes there? I will probably have to drill both areas to place the shelf tho. Thanks so much in advance for your help!
