Who needs a dad when we got RUclips
🙏🏽😅
😂
I do! RUclips is awesome but it can't give me a heart warming hug! ❤❤😂😅
RUclips really does rock, I know what you mean!
my grandpa has hung three tvs in my house this month😞HE WONT HELP ME NO MORE
So real
Just installed mine and had to make sure I did it correctly! 😂
Thank you for a really clean and easy to follow tutorial!
Thank you! I just got my first tool set and am learning how to do all the things I want to do to my home!
I wish you well! And happy renovating! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Drilling holes into the bracket so that you can have this supported by the studs is a fantastic idea!! Thank you for that tip.
That's soo smart cause with those extra holes it will not cause a problem it the future this needs to be done by ikea
Thanks for explaining simple and clear for this retired OG 👍. Bless you!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Nice! I need to add a floating shelves in my computer room!
@fixthishouse what size screws are used under the shelf to anchor to the bracket? Did you use a sheet metal screw?
Thanks a lot for the video!!
Very nice and clear instructional video
Great video, thank you!! Happy Holidays!!
Thank you!
I’m the worst with anything diy and ur video is so good I feel like buying all these tools and doing this now 😂 thank you for the great video!
Thank you so so much! 🙏🏽🥰
Super helpful! Thank you!!
Hello!
If I’m only thinking about using the studs, should I only use the screws without the anchors? Or is it better to use the anchors on the drywall only + the screws in the studs?
Thanks! Quick and easy.
Are the anchors hammered into where the studs are? Or no only your extra holes are - and you just put in a straight screw?
I have the same shelf from IKEA to install. Need to know if the holes are drilled in drywall but not the studs, I am not sure how to proceed. Thanks!
Loved the video. Well recorded.
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Thank you so much that was a huge help!
Thank you 🙏🏽!
Super helpful 👌
thank you!
I’m considering to install these types of shelves above my desk. I didn’t realize they come with brackets since IKEA always sells parts separately. Great tips! Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching! Have a great weekend! 🙏🏽😊
Where do they sell separate parts
I truely like yr video. But i was hopeing you could help me with the screw n screw size since i had purchase shelf in a yard sale with out the screws. Could you help me find that answer? Dry wall screws i have but wasnt shure on size n length for screws to connect board with metal poles. Need yr help gladys
If you drill into the stud why would you need to use anchor for the screw to be sturdy it will remain sturdy in the wood. Where hollow drywall needs an anchor in order for the screw to be sturdy. Still a cool tutorial video how you did everything else
Moving into my first place without my dad near by to help. 😭😅 thanks for this vid very helpful
Congrats on the new place! I’m glad to help! Let me know which video you want me to make next so I can be of future help! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Keep going great video
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Awesome thank you! This was incredibly helpful. My pack came with only TWO screws -.- i had to look all over my crib to find wall screws. This lack should supply at least 4 more screws and the wall anchors smh.
Its because IKEA doesnt know what type of wall you have. The two screws are to secure the shelf to the wall mount..
Fantastic tutorial!!!!!!!
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Can I use any Ikea floating shelves for this hack or is it supposed to be the one that you shared with the link above?
What length are the specific scree you used in the link there are 3 different lengths
I thank you for taking the time to create this tutorial, I recently purchased two Ikea Lack shelves and was not certain if I could drill in to the studs or not. I am a beginner in these home projects, so I hope I can do this correctly.
I’m glad I could be of help! Best of luck on your project! 🙏🏽😊
@@FixThisHouse Thank you greatly. May I ask what drill bit you recommend please?
Very good and detailed video
Thank you Guadalupe! 🙏🏽😊
Nice vid. Subscribed!
Thank you so much!
Thank you VERY much!
U think a mega ps5 would fit on there
How do you have this many wall studs?
Thanks for sharing this vedeo
Thank you for watching 🙏🏽👍🏽😊
Please explain how you got the measurements as the bar is different from the shelves
So you're using plugs into the studs. Can you just go straight into the studs with the screws?
What size lack did you install
What size are you shelves I want right buy some 😊
Can you just clarify a few things.
Did you put those wall anchors directly on the studs? Just confused as to why you located the studs when you used the anchors.
Also can you explain the measurement of the bracket and the usage of the level to mark the wall. Just confused by that part
Anchors are not need for the studs, they were just for the Dry Wall. The level is used to make the shelve is level so your stuff don't slide off.
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Thanks for the explanation on the titanium drill bits used.
However, I find if you are using at least inch and half screws into the studding, at 3 locations, and doubling up those spots right into the studs, you have zero need for wall anchors.
Already you have probably around 300 lbs of weight retaining power from the 6 to 8, 1.5 inch screws directly into the studding. The wall anchors are useless at this point. Even if rated for 45+ lbs. Funny thing. With minor force, the wall anchors will rip out at about 35lbs of force.
Drilling and anchoring directly into the studding is always your best bet
Thank you good for a rental.
Thank you 🙏🏽!
Suggestion for size of screws and dry wall anchors? I'm going in one stud and the rest dry wall.
Ofcourse! Please check out the the link on the description of the video. 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
@@FixThisHouse the link has different sizes thats why people are asking im confused as well
Hi
Where can I purchase this white shelving ? Great video.
Thank you so much! I bought this at IKEA, but I also provided a similar product on the description link below my video 🙏🏽😊
Hello, where can I get those anchors? And the stud detector? Is it expensive
Hi! Please check out the link on the description of the video located n the bottom. I provided the Amazon links 👍🏽😊
Does anyone know what screws were used.
Nice video sir, but as a painter to all the folks out there planning on mounting these, don't use long lead pencil lines on your drywall/painted finish. Very hard to come out without ruining the paint.
Thank you 🙏🏽
What is the recommended method for marking? Thinking of doing this project soon!
@@justintzou well use a pencil that's ok, but just use little marks where you don't push too hard, you'll be able to erase it easier
@@westernsharpie I use permanent marker. Because there are no mistakes. Only happy little accidents.
@@edntz lol! thats the greatest answer I've heard in a long time! Loved BR. I watch an episode every night with dinner. Take care
do you think it can load a tv?
I have the same problem with these hazardous shelves.
Hi, so I just put this exact shelf up but it’s tilting a lot downwards… possibly from the cheap metal part that goes inside isn’t strong enough to hold the self? How can I adjust it without adding brackets underneath?
Hi! Are the bracket rods inside bending or the plate attached to the stud bending?
@@FixThisHouse I just installed one with 2 bars but same issue I had it is tilted downward. I am thinking to apply some strong glue to hold it up
What’s the size though of the screws
Does the screws come with the lack or need to buy it separately?
It will come with it, but I bought extra just incase 👍🏽😊
How do you drill the extra holes on the bracket for the studs? What kind of drill bits? Thx.
Hi! I just locate where the bar will sit perpendicular to the stud then start drilling a hole using my Dewalt Titanium 1/16 bit then move up to my 7/64 bit 👍🏽😊
@@FixThisHouse thank you!
how about metal studs?
Did the Bracket come with the shelf or did you get them separate if so what is the name of the bracket
They come together
@@thelivingstallion2904 thank you 😊
is there suppose to be a gap between the wall and shelf? @ 4:19
Sorry my walls are not perfectly straight 😅
@@FixThisHouse a little caulk and a little paint makes the Ikea purchaser what he ain't
Do you put the anchors where the studs are?
No. Anchors are not necessary if you find a stud.
Okay so I am doing thins myself in my room, I wanted to know what size screws are you using?
#8 construction screws will suffice. Or #10 multi purpose screws works as well
Where did you get the anchors? Mine didn’t come with any
I was gonna ask the same thing. What kind of anchors are those?
Hi! Do you mean the dry wall anchors?
@@FixThisHouse yeah. I didn’t see it included so I was confused and returned it but repurchased it because an ikea employee told me that’s sold separately lol.
So the lack comes with the metal bracket for free?
Yes, they come free with the shelves. I just received my delivery of four of these exact same shelves this morning. I makes sense that since the holes are already pre-drilled into the shelves by Ikea, they would also give you the brackets that line up evenly with the holes already in the shelves.
does it sag? mines sags a bit but maybe mines isn’t that secure ?
No sag, you will need to add more screws for support. Make sure it’s screwed onto the studs rather than using the drywall anchors 👍🏽😊
To stop the sag only use the top holes to secure it and go into the stud.
Where did you get your dry wall anchors and what size are they?
You can go to walmart, lowes, or any hardware store for drywall anchor / screw sets for cheap.
What size screws did you use? I got one second-hand
Please check out the Amazon link I left on the description of the video 🙏🏽😊
Do ikea shelves come with screws?
They sell them separately 😢
Might need this video in the future, ahahahahehaheh
Thank you!
@@FixThisHouse Did you do the same method for the smaller floating shelves ?
What if I can only find one stud? What can I do?
You can used that stud for added support and the rest use the drywall anchors and screws. The amount of screes you use depends on the weight of the items you are planing to put on top of the shelf 👍🏽😊
I did not think ur screws are strong enough to hold…Homedepot has wall mount screws that specifically to hold from 15lbs to 45lbs
How did you drill the extra holes?
Drill bits
Drill that whole peice onto a piece of scrap wood and then use drill bits designed to pierce through metal and you will be able to do it properly without a headache
@@butabains4650 I meant what type of drill bit did he use. Do I need to get a specific one made for metal or will a standard drill bit work?
@@tylerl4472 I was wondering the same thing - guess I'm asking Google. 😅
@@tylerl4472 Found out most regular drill bits can go through metal, but if it's too thick, use black oxide or cobalt steel drill bits. Titanium coating helps as well. It says they're only a few dollars more. Hope this helps! I picked up one of these shelves from FB Marketplace and only ONE hole on the bracket lines up with a stud, so I'll be drilling.
Did you use drywall anchors while going into the stud? Lol
No sir, just regular screw. Drywall anchors are for drywall only.
Why find the studs if you didn't screw them into it?
I did on some
is it possible to install these without drilling?? if so, how?
I would say, no. The shelves themselves - at least this model, which I think are the 47-inch ones like mine, are particularly heavy. I can't imagine any other way they could be installed other than by drilling.
Can you come do this for me 😭😂😂
I am very willing if you lived close! 🙏🏽😊
You shouldn’t need anchors if you found a stud. You screw straight into the stud.
I have the same shelf, but mine is falling in 1 week!
Did you secure it onto a stud?
can i put a Tv on here?
I think a small TV , but I don’t recommend it. These are meant fo decor only. Reason being is it’s only held onto by anchors and too much weight will collapse and cause injury and broken items 😅
@@FixThisHouse what about a ps5
@@FixThisHouse yeah what about a PS5 ??? 👀
Not a good video. You didn't show what to do in case the level indicated it was not a good set of drill holes. You are an expert in your field so, yes, you were going to get it right on the first try. But a great RUclips host would give advice on how to fix problems audience members were bound to create.
You also did not "do" anything with the studs. You showed how to mark them, but then did not indicate you were drilling into them or even avoiding them on purpose. A better video would include using the studs doe even better capacity.
