Just wondering, this is like two days process right? I heard it from my friends that you have to go in to do paper work then you have to go a different day to do the witness. So, if I do the application online then I skipped one day and just go in, pay and get witnessed right?
You need to have at least 24 hours between receiving the license at the Clerk's Office and the ceremony. Unless you get a waiver. But that is an entire separate process.

Thank you for the video. I got married outside the US in 2020 but need a US marriage certificate. Would I be able to get a NYC license then a certificate? Would I need to perform marriage ceremony in one the the bureaus and my US marriage certificate date will be different from my actual wedding date? Very confusing thank you! I have a question:
My friend and his wife want to get officially married and they were both born in NYC but they’ve been unavailable to get a date for the Cupid program. After reading the requirements, they were thinking and wanted to confirm something. In the requirements, it states that the couple has to get the license in NY state. Seeing as how they’ve been unsuccessful in NYC, could they go to another county in NY (I.e.: Nassau) and get married there instead of NYC?
Of course! They can get to any City Clerk's Office in NY State to get married. But they also should follow the Twitter account of the City Clerk here in NYC. They announce new appointment every Monday morning at 9am. So if they are on their computer at 9am they should be able to grab one of the appointments. twitter.com/nycclerk
With the new online booking system we need a marriage licence number to book the ceremony is this the confirmation number you get when you click submit on this form? or is this something you only get once you pick up your license? I’d like to be able to book my appointment for both the licence and the ceremony in advance of flying over to New York.
Basically, they want to know that you are coming to the ceremony with a marriage license. You can select 'no' and then put in an arbitrary date and borough that you obtained a marriage license. The system will then let you submit the request for the marriage ceremony. However, be aware that you will be required to have your marriage license in hand for the ceremony. They will not issue a marriage license on the same day in order for you to get married there. You have to do all the work and arrive with the marriage license to your ceremony.
So, ideally you can book the appointment for the ceremony and the marriage license before leaving for your wedding but the release dates of the ceremony and licenses aren't released until about 3 weeks before you will travel.
Say if me and my partner filled this online (On a Thursday around 2:20pm) and we take the confirmation number to the clerk office on a Friday morning, will that immediately have us married instead of waiting in a line?
No. You have to wait 24 hours after you receive your license. What you do online is apply for the marriage license. That is not the actually license but rather the application. You still need to go to the City Clerk's Office (together and in person) to pick up the license. Then you have to wait 24 hours before you can come back to get married. Unless you apply for the waiver which takes time as well. So most of the time it's not worth it. Rather wait the 24 hours if you have the time. Hope that helps.

Of course! 99% of our couples are tourists. Couples from all over the world can get married here in New York City. Not a problem at all. :)

Since we are not from New York, we only have one friend who resides there. We asked her to be our witness, and she is also the person we listed in our application for this role. However, we are unsure if she can make it.
Is it possible to ask someone at the City Clerk's office to be our witness, or must we enter the building with our chosen witness?

No, they are closed on weekends. Office hours are Mondays through Fridays

Hi there! Is the marriage license application still valid only 21 days? I have not found any information about it at their official site nor in the confirming email. I have already managed to book an appointment, but by the appointment time it will be more like 21 days, probably like 25 days since I filled up the application. Should I do it again before the appointment? I don't want to apply twice. Thank you for your videos!
Tthe city clerk still lists the application expiring in 21 days however there's little loophole. Once you book your marriage license appointment then the application no longer expires. You shouldn't need to redo your application, just bring the confirmation number to your application. You should be fine. Have a great wedding. #TeamReinking

When booking an appointment I didnt need to put there any confirmation number from application, so how do they match our appointment with application? by names? Im just worried if I should fill up the application after 21 days again or not. I also tried to book an appointment for Apostille and its no longer needed. Since january 2nd its walk-in service again :)
@@zuzculla Hi Zuzana, we are glad to help. The city clerk matches confirmation numbers and then confirms it's you by looking at your passports. When you go to your appointment they will plug in the confirmation number from your appointment and the application into the computer. You will then review all the information you typed into your application to ensure it shows up correctly on the marriage license. If you completed your application 25 days before your appointment there is no reason for you to redo it. Thanks for the heads up on the apostille appointment. Things are evolving all the time.
What if I don't have a witness or an officiant?
Will the court provide a witness and officiant if I'm getting married in one of the government buildings in NYC?

If you get married in one of the Marriage Bureaus here in New York the Marriage Bureau will have an officiant who is going to perform the ceremony. You still need to find a witness, though. Some couples ask other people in line to be their witness which works really most of the time just fine. Hope that helps.

Correct. You can apply for the license beforehand online but still need to go TOGETHER and IN PERSON to pick it up. Nobody is allowed to do that for you. Filling out the application online only helps you speed things up when you actually get to the Clerk's Office. Hope that clarifies it.

Usually it takes 4-6 weeks for the marriage certificate to arrive by mail. Right now it is a bit faster, though.

No, you are not too late. You have to go to 'Project Cupid' to apply for your license. You should do that as soon as possible, though, as you have to schedule a virtual interview appointment with the City Clerk's Office and those appointments usually book out fast. New York City. In some areas of New York State you would also need a birth certificate.
Just to clarify, it is that the license has to be picked up within 21 days of applying? and then we have 60 days after that to get married? My fiancé and I are currently in Florida but will be back in town only 3 days before our NY wedding. Should I be waiting to apply 21 days prior or 60 days? Thank you!
Sarah, once you have put in your application online you have 21 days to pick it up or otherwise the application will expire. Once you picked up your marriage license from the City Clerk's Office it will be valid for 60 days. Hope that answers your question.

Correct. Covid has left us with lots of changes to the process. We would assume, though, that they will go back into place once this pandemic calms down. The City Clerk's Office is open for appointments again for example. So we are slowly going back to what it was before the world stopped. :)

You can’t. Both people have to be present during the interview.

Once you have submitted the application online you have 21 days to pick it up at the City Clerk's Office. You have to do that with your partner and in person. No one else is allowed to do this for you. Hope that answers your question.

@@sandymoran6771 Yes, you can either apply online and then pick it up right after or you can apply for it right at the Clerk's Office and take the license with you. I would fill it out online, though. That wya you can double-check everything and the workers at the Clerk's Office appreciate if you do the work online already. Less work for them. ;)

Hi there. Different states have different rules. I only can speak for New York. Here in the 'Big Apple' you would need to be in the same place to receive your marriage license unfortunately. You might want to give the Clerk's Office in California a call to see what their requirements are. also check their website. They have all the information you need listed on there as well. Good luck!
