  • As things change so much, I am giving 2023 updated information on how to get legally married in New York City. Thank God the pandemic is over, and everything is returning to normal. Now it is so easy, better than ever, to have your ceremony here, in this awesome town. If you're thinking of going to Las Vegas or Hawaii, think again, and please consider New York City as your destination wedding. It's super easy. To get married in New York City, first of all, you don't need anything other than your passport. So if you are coming from abroad, all you would need is your passport, which you would have anyway. If you are not coming from abroad, just another city or state, all you need is a State ID or a Driver's License. Any ID you have, with your picture in it, that's all you need. If you were married before, they will ask you to see a copy of your divorce papers. You don't need to translate it. They just need to see you were legally divorced.
The first thing I will do is go online a book your appointment with the City Clerk's office. They still do online appointments, I think, but I am not a fan of it. The best way is to go to the City Clerk's page, here, and book your in-person appointment to get your marriage license. It is so easy, they have a lot of appointments now. During the pandemic, they were very hard to come by, but now they have plenty. Find one here: www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/
After you make your appointment, they will give you an opportunity to fill out the form in advance. You should do it. They will ask you about where you come from, your spouse, your parents, and your social security number if you are a US citizen, although you don't need to write it if you don't have it, you can leave it blank. Now, this is very important: the immigration department has nothing to do with the City Clerk. You can even be illegal in this country and overstayed your Visa, but nobody will stop you from being legally married. All you need is a picture ID and 35 dollars. That's how much the marriage license costs. You make the appointment, you fill out the form and then the two of you, with your IDs, show up together, and that's it. They check that your info is right, and they will give you your marriage license. Once you get it, you can get legally married 24 hours later. Say you get it on a Friday at 2pm, and you can officially get married on Saturday after 2pm. The marriage license lasts for 60 days. Once you get married, you will have your marriage certificate mailed to you at the address you will give them. If you are in a hurry and want to have the wedding certificate right away, you can. After your ceremony is over you can go back to the City Clerk, give them your signed marriage license and they will give it to you. If you get married during the weekend or on a Friday, you need to wait until Monday, as the Clerk closes on weekends. Because of the pandemic, you can't just show up. If you want to do this, you need to make an apo¡poutment with a record room. They are very easy to come by and make. Go here to make an appointment: projectcupid.cityofnewyork.us...
