Sure, it's always sad to see something like that get destroyed, but I don't think it was financially feasible to fix it. Could it have been fixed? No doubt it could have, but you could have bought a new G36 for the cost of it!

In our case that is not true....my friend (an ex isle of man TT racer) asked if I would help him rebuild a stripped down Rockwell Commander 112 he'd had in storage for around 5yrs. Hell yes was my reply & 2+yrs of weekends only work, she flew again😝
Certainly not true! I used to have a Beech A-23 Musketeer, and at the annual the A&P found “exfoliating corrosion” on the wing spars. I reluctantly got a ferry permit and sold it for scrap, because the cost was more than I could pay, and I didn’t have time to invest sweat equity. A few years later I looked up the N number for fun, and Lo! Someone bought it and apparently grafted new wings on, and it’s still flying! Yay, I guess.
Definitely gotta agree with others that 310 can and should be returned to flight condition along with the Aztec. The Bonanza is definitely too far gone, but the engine and other components can be used to keep other aircraft in the skies.

I was able to get Buffalo Trace Distillery to commit to ship a tanker truck of their product (2nds of either W. L. Weller. or Pappy Van Winkle) if you provide the truck. They felt that anyone that crazy needs all of the support he can get.

Jimmy you need to get an "Impact Screwdriver" so you don't wreck so many screw heads when trying to remove those old corroded screws. They are very cool and work most of the time if you use them carefully. Just hit them with the hammer firmly and not like a mad man and you'll be amazed how well they work.
The 310 is very pretty, you really get a sense of that beautiful fuselage shape with the wings missing! Haven't gone back to see its condition relative to the Aztek, but I hope it's the one Jimmy settles on for keeps - I've got to assume there's going to be some stream-lining of assets coming soon, hope Jimmy manages to balance the books (Lol).

If that's a 1978/79 I probably was on the assembly line that built her! But cut them off? My heart stopped for a few beats as I remembered building wings both at Piper Lakeland and later at Lockheed doing 130 wings! They do come off but with a little work without hurting structural integrity. And yeah before the video ends Yes she'll fly!

The Beech at 6:20 has the exact same stripes and paint scheme as my old twin B50 that's been sitting for years since the magnesium flight controls are completely corroded, you definitely would not want to hit your head on the trailing edges because you'll be guaranteed to get tetanus. Mine has duct tape covering the trailing edges so anyone who's not paying attention doesn't get cut up to bad.... both engines run at least.

6 degrees of separation I remember this airport North of Pittsburgh near where I used to live. Now in SW Florida I have my LSA at an airport FULL of junk planes. I get to see the oldest DC 3 in the World and a bunch of other stuff. You didn't have to go further than Punta Gorda to find the same planes!

That 310 is one of the nicest I have seen in a very long time! Last time I saw a 310 was in MPLS I was leaving in my Mooney, I was waiting for the ground crew to get it out of the hanger and I saw a guy in kind of a ratty looking 310 doing a run up on the runway plane sounded decent till he got to one of the mags on the second engine and that mag was really messed up, plane just barely kept running on that bad mag. I figured the fellow would taxi back in to get the mag fixed, NOPE he proceeded to taxi out and off he went. The next week I was at the same airport and the ground crew were filling my plane with fuel and I mentioned that 310 with the bad mag flying out the week before, the fuel guy got a very weird look on his face and asked if it was a red/white one and I said yes, apparently on that following Saturday he took off with his family on board, plane crashed off the end of the runway, the pilot, his wife and 2 daughters died because of this asshole!

As soon as I saw the Bonanza in the original video, I knew it was a lost cause. Those magnesium V-tails are a death sentence for all old Bonanzas, unfortunately.

There might've been a reason you had to cut the bonanza wings off but at the root of each wing there are 4 nuts that hold them on. You could've taken those off and the wing would've came right off.
Man that was horrible to cut up that plane but I understand that it was too far gone. I am glad that they made it to Florida, So put them together and keep them flying.

While it may never "slip the surly bonds of Earth" again its "organ donations" may help some other aircraft in need to "dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings." Can't wait till the next video! My neighbor does his too. He makes a good living doing it. But he has future project airplanes hanging from the ceilings in his hanger. When he finishes one it looks better than the day it rolled out of the factory. I have a 30' long trailer I built out of a Mobile Home frame that will be used to bring home his next barn find.
Just wondering, are there crews of guys that specialize in this kind of disassembly and moving of airplanes? Ive never seen it done and it was fascinating to watch. Just wondering if people do this for a living.

We had a saying when I worked at an FBO for Aztecs. Lose one and the second engine will take you all the way to the crash site

Just wondering, are there crews of guys that specialize in this kind of disassembly and moving of airplanes? Ive never seen it done and it was fascinating to watch. Just wondering if people do this for a living.
Yup anyone can take the wings off and slap them on but would need an A&P to approve of the work to make it air worthy again
Yes there are people who do this for a living , here in Canada I use to do that for people as I am an AME.
With a recip., I can do the job cheap!
Just throw me in the cockpit and I will show you how to disassemble it in one fail swoop.....lol

You need a screw knocker, alot easier that drilling out fasteners. I believe one of the aviation tool magazines sell them.

my first flight was in a bonanza V N5247C sad seeing her cut up was sad but not worth the cost in restoring it hope too see that aztec or 310 fly again the engines seem sound

Yes, the twin engine planes will, but with a lot of cleaning. And on the other plane duct tape can fix it, and a little JB Weld too.

When I was younger, I almost took on an adventure with an old Mooney aircraft. After seeing this, I glad I didn't do that. It is interesting to see you work on that adventure Jimmy. Thanks for your videos.
