Hey until I’m independently wealthy enough to play with airplanes I’m just gonna live vicariously through you. Really excited about these couple of builds
Although I don't fly, I am a bit of an aviation fan. Dad was a mechanic on B-17s during the war. He was also a private pilot but quit flying before I was born. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with both of those two beautiful old planes. I hate to see airplanes just sit and rot away.
So glad I found your channel jimmy.....love your stuff......the 310 is just so cool....hope it lives to fight another day......so so cool.....glad it was heads. I did own my own aircraft here in the UK for 15 years....would have so loved to do what you do Jimmy. Looking forward to going though all of your vids....just watched 2 so far....starting the Aztec....and finding the Aztec/310/Bonanza....is that the Dr Killer type????? The USA Builds such cool aeroplane's.....always has.....sad story re why these 3 a/c got stuck there.
What I've been doing on 'found' planes, is to fix the obvious broken systems, rudder, pedal, flaps etc. on earth then have a friend up to a 'cloud port' of which I keep several in good weather at altitudes ranging from 1k to 3k in weather which is stable for a week or so. Then pilot the plane back to earth in glide mode. Once you are cmfortable with the glane and it doesn't 'fight' you (you know that when it might happen, add power. Engine work varies with each plane. Get your new friend up to 95 stable power. Depending on the plane, electronics may or may not work, you should establish how much but don't depend on it for early flights. Quickly you can resume your work and test flights on earth. Trust me, it's mush easier than trying to get a ride to the cloud where you airplane awaits. Keep up with the super videos!
Awesome, would have loved to see you turn all of them around. The Bonanza is a beauty of an aircraft. And that one looked so original. Parking it on grass for years sealed the poor things fate.
We had SO MANY abandoned airplanes at my field in the 80's and 90's....all classics...Ercoupes, Luscombes, Aeroncas.....I would've loved to do what this guy is doing. No $$$$$ at the time.
SAVE! I watched one of your later videos (aztec startup) then BINGE WATCHED your whole channel! I remember you talking about 200knots for $200K I think you might have found the ONE here! Cessna 310 really cool, Aztec... Not pretty, but a work horse. And the doctor killer is....well a Beechcraft! All potentially good(expensive) finds! LOVE THE CHANNEL!!
Part out the bonanza, sell the Aztec as is once moved, and get the 310 flying again. I would love to have the Aztec personally. But the 310 looks like it was in better shape.
Looks can be deceiving. You got three airframes now. Choose the plane you want most. Maybe think about which one sells best, in case you call it a day. Everything in these three can be repared. It is totally up to you. Reassuring enough, you are not exactly an idiot. Good luck!
I love that your channel has become rescuing planes. I really hope you're youtube channel is successful enough to keep spending way too much money on stuff you find with lots of "mouse love"!!!
NGL,i thought the 310 seemed like more of a sure bet than the Aztec. I mean,it has been inside, and is assembled. Less chance if stuff getting inside. The aztec on the other hand has been outside for a while (moss/mildew on the outside), and has wing tips removed. It will be interesting to see how an inspection of the wing interior goes. I look forward to seeing the progress!
I love aviation which brought me here! I am a newcomer here! I am a sceptic with lots of optimism if that means anything. As far as the cesna you coulda filmed and edited the flip to get the heads up for the build! Anyhow great aircraft to save! Thank you! I will be following you until i get bored. So far so good! 😎
I would take the Beech and make an artificial reef and use it as a dive attraction if I can fit it on a flat rack container and ship it...and find a place somewhere on the tourist circuit.
So glad You got the Aztec and Cessna 310 Beautiful airplanes and love the vintage avionics in that Aztec, I’ve always had a passion for Vintage twin engine airplanes. So nice to know this beautiful vintage pair is going to be saved from scrap ! Wonderful!
Good old Pittsburgh Northeast, there is an old Nike Missile site at the end of the old runway. Then Rock Ferrone came along, whole thing changed. I’ve often wondered what happened to that Aztec, now I know. Good luck with the projects!
I found a loop hole for that.. I don’t buy airplanes, I buy parts of airplanes. When you collect enough “parts” you have yourself an airplane. Order your first “sub component TODAY”
My bro, my bro, that is the predicament of many, including moi! I’ve searched for years, and I’ve come close. I can at least get a balsa kit, but then when I say, “I want to get a plane,”, I’ll hear, “you already have one!”
Hey Jimmy, thanks for the videos! What kind of paying business can a couple of light twin aircraft support? Pilot training, rental, specialty ag/industrial/medical delivery, air ambulance, mapping/survey, law enforcement, executive transport, I don't know what else. Put those planes to work and let your bank account fall in love with you again.
Wow, I used to see these planes at Rock 9G1 all the time. I even climbed inside that Bonanza once when it used to sit down closer to the runway. Last I know, and this was a couple years ago, there a few hulks sitting over at Pittsburgh-Monroeville 4G0. I believe the airport owner is trying to sell the land for housing development but is having trouble with zoning issues. Now would probably be the time to try to get in there before it's sold off and the planes are scrapped out.
Great video and your funny as he'll. I think it's awesome you saving old planes. The twin engine bottom wings are whats in my bucket list. I'm trying to find a flight school here around Lafayette Louisiana but the only thing that's here is helicopter academy. But I'm 63 and im determined to get this done one way or the other. Love your videos and that 310 cought my eyes. Thank you
On the old 310's the exhaust augmenters are LOUD! I learned to fly before headsets were a thing and the old 310 was so loud it would make you physically ill. lol! The only AD I know of is 50 hours inspections of the exhaust system. So on oil changes check out the exhausts as well. There used to be an STC to change the nacelles/exhaust to be like the newer ones (wing lockers and bottom exhaust. ) I would never do it to get the wing lockers but to quiet the things down... Of course, we all wear headsets now and a good set of noise-canceling sets might not make it worth the effort anymore????
@@therealjimmysworld Well I am sure there are many benefits to that mod. I think the main appeal is actually the storage space. When I was flying one back in the early 80's the LOUD was the major problem we had with plane. We had no exhaust issues back then. So if *I* was to spend money on the STC it would be to solve the problem I actually had. ;) So 40 years later what I remember of that plane was that it was a sweet flying fast climbing bird that gave you a headache the rest of the day after flying it! lol With all that said I think the newer bottom exhaust 310's have a corrosion issue AD where the underwing exhaust let corrosive residue buildup and corrode the trailing edge spar... EDIT: Found this ... "(6) The 1965 J-models were the first with the under-wing exhaust. These planes are a little quieter than the over-wing exhaust. But… the placement of the exhaust pipes pumps a lot of exhaust gases into the wheel wells and flap area. You might want to spend a little time keeping those areas clean to avoid corrosion problems later."
@@therealjimmysworld It's more than just noise reduction. Over-the-wing exhaust encourages corrosion in the skins over which the exhaust flows. There was an STC to move the exhaust below the wing, moving some noise away from the cabin while preserving the aft top of the wing.
As an A&P/IA, I’d only recommend the 310 as it was stored inside. Too many surprises on the Az-Truck, and the poor bonanza is scrap. Engine, prop and landing gear components are probably salvageable.
That Aztec was a nice aeroplane when it was parked. Stormscope, digital engine monitor, full panel... and Aztecs can lift a ton of weight - super useful, even if very agricultral with their exposed struts.
24:24 - "SHE'S COMING DOWN!" Clicked subscribe. This dude is crazy, I love it. He's an animated action figure. Some weird mixture of Owen Wilson, Roscoe P. Coltrane, and shaggy. Not to mention I love build videos, planes, and sarcasm.
The Bonanza was last run on the ramp in 2014. They asked drain and use some fuel from my plane. They put about three Gallons in and a fresh charged battery- it did start right up.
very cool. Yeah, Jack was telling me that he would just taxi back and forth but never flew it after putting that prop on there... Sounds like a heck of a guy.
The logs (you CAN find the logs, can't you ??) should tell you everything with regard to the maintenance of these airplanes !! The early 310 with the overwing (augmenter) exhaust, I believe, were subject to an AD concerning corrosion in the aft spar and wing skins.
The 310 should fly again! My 40 year flying career included, after flying helicopters in the army, a lot of twin Cessna and Aztec time early on. Both are good multi-engine training birds among other service. Good luck with your projects. I am sure I crossed paths with those two as the majority of my flying was PA based east coast flying.
I would love this bird to fly again. I used to own a later model (H) with the swept tail and flared tip tanks. It flies beautifully and is pretty quick (IO 470's), cruising at 186 kts and full load (6 pax) with a 5.5 hour endurance.
Looking forward to seeing all the content. Kind of wonder when he found out the airport was going to be cut off why not fly the airplanes out while you could get them parked at a different location and then figure out what to do with them then rather than let them get trapped. Perhaps none of them we're really airworthy even then.
I love the 3 ton you were going to save. I always like the short notice 310 with the street tail. It is still one good looking airplane. Only one was on my bucket list, unfortunately medical conditions have taken me out of the air add this point on in one would be pointless. So, I will live vicariously through you and can’t wait to see you get it in the air!
BY BROTHER FOUMD AN OLD NAVY TRAINER SITTING OUT DOORS FOR YEARS, IT WAS AN OLD CLOTH AND WOOD FRAME WITH A HUGE ENGINE. WE HAULED IT ON A HAY TRAILER HOME AND HE WORKED ON THAT PLANE FOR FIVE YEARS AND HE FLEW IT IN THE FRENCH BOTTOMS OF THE MISSOURI RIVER. HE SOLD IT TO A RANCHER MAKING A VERY HEALTHY PROFIT. HIS EXPERIENCE WAS A MODEL AIRPLANE BUILDER.
Especially on a twin, always test the throttle, mixture and prop controls. The long control cable runs on a twin will often seize up, and replacing those cables is both expensive, and a huge amount of work! I'm also very nervous about the turbos sitting still for so many years, especially out doors!
Hi Jimmy. I really enjoy watching your shows. For the mildew, you may try to RMR-86. You basically spray it, let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse it off. It's magical. Google the reviews. But on a more serious note, have you watched Hoovies Garage? Are you related to Tyler Hoover? If you are not, you have a voice twin :-).
Honestly if he paid money over the scrap metal valuation of the planes, it was a terrible deal. Poor op... And, if he isn't poor, he certainly will be.
The Aztec is a pure keeper and the 310...... well, if you can swing the restoration costs then more power to you as it should be saved. Good call on the Bonanza. You mentioned throwing gas in it and I was thinking throwing gas ON it as it sadly needs a good Viking funereal imo ;-)
3:19 - Wow, this avionics is the coolest I've ever seen. The newest generation digital equipment has all these gauges, that look exactly like the old school analog ones. The top of your bills! 🤔
Do it, would probably become my favorite story to follow. See of the engine can be salvaged on the third and sell it. Junk the rest unless you can sell some of the other parts. Then get the other two cleaned. Thoroughly. Pressure washer. Then buff. Probably hold off on the wax. That will give you a much better idea of what you are looking at. I personally would do the Aztec first. But I like those older Pipers more than the Cessnas so I'm biased. Subscribed!
Hi Jimmy, Being a pilot of principally whatever flyes I REALLY love what you're doing and wish I had an opportunity to do something similar. I have seen a couple of your videos now and like your humour and mindset! I do have one question though, why didn't the owner(s) of the three planes just airlift them out from where you found them back then 10 years ago? I'm thinking although airlifting such a structure as a light aircraft is tricky even on a calm day it's not more than half a mile, from the looks of it, and the benefits for you now of being on an "airport", even that one, would make the job easier getting them airworthy. Obviously, there are hourly costs for airlifting running several thousand an hour but executed smartly it may be an alternative from where I'm sitting. So what are your thoughts on that?
Aircraft of the definition of “High Risk, High Reward” as if you can get them back up and running and into an airworthy state they can turn a rather large profit. Edit: The Aztec alone could fetch some money as it’s a common aircraft that smaller nations will shill out big money for as they convert them for Ground attack roles :D
The Bonanza was a no-brainer, but I'm SO happy it was heads! The 310 deserves another chance at life!!! The Aztec (not my favorite twin) is super-cool as well with the turbos and that interior. BTW, you're INSANE and I love it!
Stumbled onto your channel today, and it was this video. Thank the YT gods because this is going to be one hell of an adventure with those twins. Can't wait to see how you go. Subbed to follow the journey !
The V-Tail reminds me of a similar airplane sitting at closed air field near Circleville, OH. I drove by it many times wondering if anyone would rescue that airplane, I sure no one has, so sad.
I'd say the 310 looks like it's worth saving, I am no pilot or plane mechanic but if the 310 was a car it would be cool for me as a automotive technician with how fairly clean it looks.
I had a friend with a '73 E model Aztec who damn near went broke keeping that plane in the air. And his plane didn't sit out in a field for years, either.
On the Aztec, after a good wash, soapy water or quick detailer and clay bar by hand it'll take any contaminates off gently. Hope that helps. Really can't believe how nice the interior is after sitting outside for so long. I'm in AZ, after 2 years of the Az sun that thing would have just been left on the seats, and any red vinyl/leather left would have been pink. Good luck with the builds of
I'm with you in this. Aztec was the best move, the 310 is beautiful too but the sexier is the v tail. I'm not a pilot, but one idea is to sell these refurbished planes even outside USA. There are a lot of fans on these models outside USA. In fact, I live in southamerica and you see a lot of classics imported from the US. You or someone should make contact to groups (for recreation, parachute activity, air taxi and even for mail and other limited freight services locally) to see what are they prone to buy. You are the man!
Jimmy, I didn't see where anybody said but the exhaust on the 310 is augmented exhaust and it actually produces some thrust. Aero Commanders use that style of exhaust too.

Hey until I’m independently wealthy enough to play with airplanes I’m just gonna live vicariously through you. Really excited about these couple of builds
Sky king 310 a classic and worth money just for that reason and may be worth restoring....maybe
ME TOO VICARIOUSLY LOL
If you can buy a KIA, you could buy a plane.
At this point I can’t buy a Kia😂
@@thaddeusstubblefield9841 One day lol
Although I don't fly, I am a bit of an aviation fan. Dad was a mechanic on B-17s during the war. He was also a private pilot but quit flying before I was born. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with both of those two beautiful old planes. I hate to see airplanes just sit and rot away.
very cool! Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the video!
Definitely get that 310 going please!!! I've wanted one since I flew in one 15 years ago
Yep, pretty sure I love this channel.
Yup.
Yep…
Totally! 😄
Damn right
am looking for a rather average plane
Thanks so much!
In 1956, that 310 must have looked like a space ship. What a gorgeous plane!
Part out the bonanza, sell the Aztec as is once moved, and get the 310 flying again. I would love to have the Aztec personally. But the 310 looks like it was in better shape.
I agree, use the funds to revive the 310.
Yes, Absolutely.
Looks can be deceiving. You got three airframes now. Choose the plane you want most. Maybe think about which one sells best, in case you call it a day. Everything in these three can be repared. It is totally up to you. Reassuring enough, you are not exactly an idiot. Good luck!
nah, better revive the bonanza and maybe sell the the 310
Bonanza parts are worth more than the whole. Owners are hoarding parts.
I love that your channel has become rescuing planes. I really hope you're youtube channel is successful enough to keep spending way too much money on stuff you find with lots of "mouse love"!!!
Jimmy, you’re nuts. But I’m sure we’re all gonna have a great time watching you work! 👍
I absolutely love this type of content! I know a lot of people will.. Save as many as you can Jimmy!
It'd be nice to see those AIR relics go up in the air again but, just to inspect & fix corrosion will cost you fortune to please the FAA
The Beech is scrap where it sits. The Aztec looks phenomenal for being outside, so I'd say either it or the 310 for resurrection!
I would take the Beech and make an artificial reef and use it as a dive attraction if I can fit it on a flat rack container and ship it...and find a place somewhere on the tourist circuit.
V-tail doctor killer needs salvaged, and I’d try to put both the others back in the air...I mean if you’re game to buy three planes...
that 310 flew just the other day before this video was made, the grandkids bombed the hell out of some bridge or another.....
Time out of service of 3 AC, corrosion has control beyond this event.
Yes. I Agree.
So glad You got the Aztec and Cessna 310 Beautiful airplanes and love the vintage avionics in that Aztec,
I’ve always had a passion for Vintage twin engine airplanes.
And he’s still married? That alone is the early Christmas miracle.
My wife wouldn’t let me buy so much as a balsa kit. She keeps them papers close by.
🤣🤣
Thank you
Lol "flight controls free and clear!" As they squeak and grind
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
It's more like "flight controls NOT free and NOT correct"!
@@therealjimmysworld did any control surfaces move when you forced the yoke to move?
Hahahahahahaha
Remove them before flight. Not the tags, the flight controls.
That STC was just for noise reduction? not anything to do with heat issues?
@@therealjimmysworld Well I am sure there are many benefits to that mod. I think the main appeal is actually the storage space.
When I was flying one back in the early 80's the LOUD was the major problem we had with plane. We had no exhaust issues back then. So if *I* was to spend money on the STC it would be to solve the problem I actually had. ;)
So 40 years later what I remember of that plane was that it was a sweet flying fast climbing bird that gave you a headache the rest of the day after flying it! lol
With all that said I think the newer bottom exhaust 310's have a corrosion issue AD where the underwing exhaust let corrosive residue buildup and corrode the trailing edge spar...
@@therealjimmysworld hey Jimmy check your email
@@therealjimmysworld It's more than just noise reduction. Over-the-wing exhaust encourages corrosion in the skins over which the exhaust flows. There was an STC to move the exhaust below the wing, moving some noise away from the cabin while preserving the aft top of the wing.
Seems like it’s basically a straight pipe with no baffling from the engine directly to atmosphere. Super loud indeed
The 310 is a magnificent airplane man you'd be doing yourself good to put it back in the air
:) Chi chi chi
The Bonanza was last run on the ramp in 2014. They asked drain and use some fuel from my plane. They put about three Gallons in and a fresh charged battery- it did start right up.
very cool. Yeah, Jack was telling me that he would just taxi back and forth but never flew it after putting that prop on there... Sounds like a heck of a guy.
Me: Laughing hysterically and saying this is hilarious!
Girlfriend: you watching that Jimmy guy again?
🤣🤣🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
YES!!!!!
There's a hint of jealousy there....
She likes watching Jimmy buying and selling airplanes, taking chances, and coming out on top. Why are you laughing ?
The logs (you CAN find the logs, can't you ??) should tell you everything with regard to the maintenance of these airplanes !! The early 310 with the overwing (augmenter) exhaust, I believe, were subject to an AD concerning corrosion in the aft spar and wing skins.
Love to see the 310 back in the airplane. And yes there is an STC for putting under wing exhaust and getting rid of the over wing exhaust
Definitely save all three! This reminds me how much I love my jet washer!
That's very cool 🙂 👌
OMG! I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes! Love to see lost causes brought back to life… hell save them ALL!
There’s no way you have a wife at home. If so there’s no way she knows about your purchases unless she loves airplanes like we do.
Reminds me of Demolition Ranch - Don't Tell Mere!!!
You are a disturbed man.
Like you said.
What could possibly go wrong.

HAHAHA, that's awesome!
Yes I would love to see the Cessna 310 back in the air again 👍
get Patey to build you a best tugs with 4wd and offroad tyres for 'field plane recoveries' 👌

Stumbled upon this channel and i know next to nothing about airplanes but hes the MAN !!!! WILL BE BINGEN ON THIS FOR A WHILE appreciate the content
Hi jimmy, I am wandering what is the best way to find a old planes to fix it , love your videos very educational, thanks ,

Its funny how we are all so excited about these projects even though he might go bankrupt over them 😄
One man’s pleasure is another man’s pain.
He'll at least make a little from the RUclips videos...
Honestly if he paid money over the scrap metal valuation of the planes, it was a terrible deal. Poor op... And, if he isn't poor, he certainly will be.
Piper Aztec gets my vote…but the 310 is a nice plane…you made the right decision! They both deserve saving…the Aztec is phenomenal!
Famous last words "What could possibly go wrong" :D
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
The wise words of a man known as Jeremy Clarkson
Really happy to see the 310 is going to be a project. For my untrained eye she looked like to be in the better shape of the two.
Subscribed!
I'm glad you decided to keep the 310 and bring it back to life. Those exhaust exits are super cool looking.

Hi Jimmy,
Being a pilot of principally whatever flyes I REALLY love what you're doing and wish I had an opportunity to do something similar.
The prop on the Bonanza needs another overhaul: it’s been well over 5 years.
When Jimmy’s son gets his goes to high school, he won’t have a car because he will have a plane instead 😂
Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the video!
The Bonanza was a no-brainer, but I'm SO happy it was heads! The 310 deserves another chance at life!!! The Aztec (not my favorite twin) is super-cool as well with the turbos and that interior. BTW, you're INSANE and I love it!
Love to see all of them fly again Jimmy. From New Zealand
Stumbled onto your channel today, and it was this video. Thank the YT gods because this is going to be one hell of an adventure with those twins. Can't wait to see how you go. Subbed to follow the journey !
without doubt one of the top ten personalitys on the net, love it, cheers mr chuckles, ya great. and i love that sermon thing you do its awsome.
The V-Tail reminds me of a similar airplane sitting at closed air field near Circleville, OH. I drove by it many times wondering if anyone would rescue that airplane, I sure no one has, so sad.
ABSOLUTELY love this “crazy’guy even though he knows exactly what he’s doing!!
Watch this barn find, will it start? ruclips.net/video/0tUMBAYUy5o/видео.html
i almost went to buy that aztec now i get to see if it was a good choice to pass up or a missed chance

Europe was the most important to the two Alfredo huoslr countries 🏗
I'm with you in this. Aztec was the best move, the 310 is beautiful too but the sexier is the v tail. I'm not a pilot, but one idea is to sell these refurbished planes even outside USA. There are a lot of fans on these models outside USA. In fact, I live in southamerica and you see a lot of classics imported from the US. You or someone should make contact to groups (for recreation, parachute activity, air taxi and even for mail and other limited freight services locally) to see what are they prone to buy. You are the man!
I am pretty sure you are the Hoovie of airplanes.
love it man , keep it up and best of luck !!
Jimmy, I didn't see where anybody said but the exhaust on the 310 is augmented exhaust and it actually produces some thrust. Aero Commanders use that style of exhaust too.
