    Damn, I wish BWE was still around, he was such a valuable asset to the firearms community. Zinc phosphate is a light gray like he said, and it eventually turns greenish from contact with oils, the really dark color park jobs also utilize a “pre-black” dip treatment, it blackens the steel prior to the phosphate dip. m16s are anodized (aluminum doesn’t parkerize)

    I've bought a solution of phosporous acid that says you can parkerize with it at room temperature. Is that as durable as the heat treating method?

    Can parkerizing affect final tolerances?

    • @BWEFirearms
      @BWEFirearms  2 года назад +1

      Yes it can if the tolerances are extremely tight. The media blasting will roughen up the surface and the parkerizing will build up on the surface. Zinc Phosphate parkerizing is thicker than Magnesium Phosphate parkerizing.

    Couldn’t the “nimrods” have used 309 to fuse unknown different alloys together? Not all “stainless” is the same. The reasons for different fillers may not be apparent or may have been for best strength rather than final show finish.
