People say why would someone build a car that cost more than it's worth?? Well I build my cars for me with no intentions of selling it, and some people want a piticular car no matter the cost. That's where you and guys like you come in with the skills to build that car. Good job your skills are evident.
Great job Kiwi, a massive project well done by a master! Thanks fer takin' us along.... ps if I ever hit the big jackpot, I'll be down to visit with either a project car or a sound PPI...
I couldn't help but chuckle when you said "it'll just drop right out and roll it like a wheelbarrow". Like yeah right, when is it ever that easy, something is still hanging on or it'll get caught. Man that came out pretty as a picture. Nice work! 😁👍

Wow! What a job. The owner of this swiss cheese Stang is very lucky to have you doing the work Chris. This definitely beyond what your run of the mill shop could do correctly. I'm looking forward to seeing the front part of the MTF system, it sounds like it will be a full chassis when done, which is going to be much better than the original. Especially with the new power train. Kudos, and carry on sir!
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. You and your buddy Kevin are going to keep everybody eyes wide open with these projects ! I’ll have remember I have my own project. ( LOL ) your giving this old guy a few lessons ☕️👀😎👍.
Wow, Kiwi! You, got all that done, in 24 minutes! Fairly, short space of time, indeed!😃 Excellent craftsmanship, as always! Looking forward, to the completed car!
You made a rickshaw! 😂 Swiss cheese, not on your sandwich! 😉🤣 Going down to Florida next week to make some $. I've got a burning desire for another project car, saving up.
you have created a new meaning to gutting a car lol, quite alot of work involved in this that the time lapse does not show. great work in bringing this lightweight optioned body back to having steel back in it where it needs to be.👍
Well sir, that seems to be the way to go on this car. It is good when you have a customer who is willing to fix this body up right and also realizes that it is more involved to get all these years of rot and rust attended to properly. And also, it gives the opportunity to make any modification to the suspension as you have pointed out. It also gives people the opportunity to see just what is involved in repair of these unibody vehicles. Anyone thinking about buying one of these cars would benefit from viewing your videos and perhaps they can go into a possible purchase knowing what to expect. Perhaps you could create a network of respectable shops that are knowledgeable for people to take a vehicle that they are considering purchasing for inspection.
OMG ! ...What a Humungous Project, won't be much left of the original body when you're done... more power to ya brother, and I hope the owner has a huge Bank account to match the job. Cheers to ya Chris 🍺
Good Lord, I'm glad you are doing this job and not me. Years ago a car with only 1/10 this rust damage would have gone to the scrap yard. These cars must be getting harder to find.
Hi Chris enjoy your channel. I been watch you a couple of years now. Don't know where he sources his parts. He seem like very nice bloke. I found him though another channel i follow. I'm also a kiwi like you living in Aus. Hope you having a great weekend.
Prettier? Man you just need someone to show you how to stack dimes in 4G. Its all about technique. If you want to see some super cool craftsmanship. Look up "cornfield customs" Kiwi. I went to high schoo with the guy. He built a 27 ford from flat sheet metal to driver. He does everything by hand. All self taught.
Speaking of rust buckets, how is yours doing since the last update video ? That's a big step forward. Getting rid of that one big piece sure got rid of a lot of rust. The finished product is going to be so much nicer IMHO doing it this way, rather than patching in a couple hundred small pieces.. It has to be a lot faster too, I would think.
Going to be a cool project! Lots of work, but I’m sure worth it in the end. I’m curious why you don’t use a plasma cutter or oxy-acetylene torch over the grinder and saw on these bigger cutting jobs? Maybe just personal preference?
Chemical stripping better than sand blasting? I had a 63 Belair sand blasted in 89 and never ever got rid of the sand from in the sills. Of course no one had a big enough chemical tank in NZ then until later in Penrose but not there anymore.
Both ways have their issues. Chemical stripping can leave residual amounts stripped that can leak out later and tear up paint jobs. They have to be meticulously flushed and cleaned. And both ways benefit from being on a rotissere after the strip to get all the product out.
Wouldn't it be better to build a jig? You could then just assemble the individual panels. (Every single part of the Mustang is available.) Or is the theory that the Ship of Theseus is more "authentic" if you replace one part at a time rather than completely dismantling it?
Making a jig is very labour intensive. Simpler to just buy a body shell pre done. We chose to repair this one as a lot of it is being replaced with modern/custom stuff
That was an option we looked at but with the amount that we'd cut out and throw away to make way for the custom sheet metal it made more sense repair this one.
"I know what you are. I know what you want. If you are looking for metal' I can tell you I don't have any spare, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for rust like you. If you let this Mustang go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you." Kiwi Classics and Customs, 2024
Sometimes just because you can doesnt mean you should. It would be great to know how this car makes economic sense to do all this work. Surely a better donor car or just start from scratch with all new panels. If you could explain it would be greatly appreciated
Even if you brought a repop shell you really a complete donor car as well which your lucky to get for under 10k today. This car was purchased as a running driving car that appeared to be a bit shabby but ok. Turns out it wasn't, a flipper had worked their "special" magic on it. So then the options were reshell or repair. New shells are about 18k plus 2k shipping, now if the car was going back stock or close to it then that would have been the way to go but that's not what the customer wanted. He wants a full custom which would mean your throwing quite a bit of the new shell away. So with that in mind the decision was made to modify/repair the old rusty shell. A better donor car would have been ideal but it is what it is and this is what Ryan ended up with. It will be built to the exact spec that he alone wants and he's willing to pay for that. Will he end up spending more than the cars worth? Absolutely he will, welcome to the world of hot rodding😎👍
