Anybody else feel like it's a little weird that we finally got a really smart Christian on JRE, and so many Christians are criticizing him for how he did it? Like, come on guys can we tighten up and focus on the fact that he brought joe closer to Jesus and probably a lot of viewers closer to Jesus.

Everyone will have their criticisms- it's human nature. But yes, when we skip past that part... this opened so many doors.
Just to see the evidence on a podcast like this that Jesus was real, that he was crucified and the reason why Wes believes it's a historical fact that he rose... it's profound.❤

Huff wasn't there wasn't there to give a sermon and preach. I'm not entirely certain that's in his skill set. What he was there to do was to have a sit-down interview and answer questions. Wesley was there for apologetics. I think he did a great job representing the faith to viewers that would probably be more likely to tune out if he preached to for 3 hours.

Agree 100%. It followed the normal flow of a JRE interview where Joe asked a lot of questions about his guests area of expertise (ancient biblical texts). To expect Wes to explain the gospel message to Joe for three straight hours isn’t the right expectation.

Of course we are. Because we are flawed and sinful. We have been brought out of the muck and while we are being sanctified we are going to stumble and fail miserably. But praise GOD that our salvation is not works-based but Grace-based. If you are setting your eyes on Christians then you are not setting them on Christ. And if you are a Christian then exhort your brothers and sisters with biblical truths so they can be broken up about their sin and repent. And pray for them. When we stop looking down at each other cloaked in Christ righteousness and believing we were born this way, and start seeing each other as both being in the same boat of unworthiness, then we will begin to be more compassionate to each other.
      Heb 2:17-18
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

I saw all 3+ hours and it was awesome. I think Wes did it a great job at gently nudging the conversation or focus back on Jesus. Especially when Joe wanted to go down so many rabbit holes. I’ve only had a few conversations on the streets (Chicago) where it was just like that. You’re trying to meet people where they’re at. It’s a balance of being gentle, but also getting to the core of the gospel.

Let's not put all this negativity on Wes, okay guys? The guy needs encouragement from his fellow Christians, not criticism. It doesn't fall on his shoulders to convert Joe Rogan. Joe is not gonna believe in God after one conversation. We only need to preach the word and good does the rest. It is a show process. Wes witnessed to Joe through his kindness, patience, his whole being. And that's enough

Wes HuffԤ specialty is the historic part of Christianity not evangelicalism so if someone comes by and tries to evangelize Joe then those foundations of the historic aspect of it will make Joe more likely to believe in God
Plus Joe was more interested in the whole Billy thing which is why Wes got on in the first place

  • @heythere6983

He said the Laws of Moses dont save us and that Jesus died and resurrected for us. He also said we couldnt save ourselves and our sins. This makes it obvious what the Gospel is no? Especially on a podcast where the viewers constantly see people talk about Jesus. He did spread the Gospel, I think people were expecting him to say "Do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?" to make it clearer..
edit- As I continue to watch the video this is what youre saying too. I agree. Some people need to hear more than "Jesus died for your sins" and thats okay. I think most people dismiss the Gospel because they feel its not very well thought out, but Wes laying out Christianity like he did is fine. Some people have more questions. This way it sounds natural and it doesnt run into peoples walls if its the same line theyve heard a thousand times.

Joe Rogan knows what the Gospel is, he’s wrestling with if it’s actually worth putting his faith into it. Wes was helping him put it together specifically on Rogan’s questions on the historicity of the resurrection and how the Bible came together and its authenticity. Rogan having Wes on in and of itself is a huge win, he’s asking the right questions and looking for the most convincing arguments, this is miles ahead of where he was a few years ago.

How the Gospel is preached to someone like Joe Rogan may not be the same way we needed to hear it. Every person is different and this is why testimony is so important, for instance I can significantly reach a brother facing lust. However the person who is not facing lust will just look at me shrug their shoulders and move on. "...Not just being restored back to God so that you can go to heaven, but being restored back to God so that you can help usher heaven on earth"- I think that's the most logical, selfless and loving statement that I've ever personally heard a Christian say 💯 wow! Im actually surprised, lol. I'm a nonbeliever, I'd say the most powerful thing a believer can do is to lead their own life in service and sacrifice to humanity through Christ and show how joyful that can be, no matter the fleshly cost. Don't need to bore me with perceived "wisdom" or entice me with "heaven". I'll see you and the joy you present in your own life picking up your own cross for the love of others and humanity... and I'll know it's real. That's the miracle and a true power, that i don't believe that can be taken from believing. Ive personally never seen that

This is a serious problem in the Christian community. So many people are obsessed with things being explicit or ham-fisted in presenting the Gospel, when some of the most powerful ways to actually get people to accept the Gospel are long, sometimes subtle, and oftentimes meandering conversations that actually address the person across from them. Preaching John 3:16 at someone isn't going to convert them. Getting to know the person and weaving John 3:16 into the conversation and having the Gospel be the back bone of the conversation will be much more effective. People don't like being preached at, they want to be known, understood, and then reached.
This is a problem a lot of Christian movies and music have (and other media). The stereotype I always hear is that Christian media is just a knock off of secular media, and that it is really preachy and cheesy/bad. The stereotype should be the Chronicle's of Narnia and LOTR though. It should be top notch media bathed in the Christian worldview and that either explicitly or subtly explores the Gospel, not ham-fisted or cheesy or low quality feeling works that have a good message, but no one takes seriously. When people start asking, "Where's the Gospel?" when looking at Christian media, they need to first backup and go, "Is this meant to be presenting a Christian worldview and themes at a broad level, or is this meant to be much more explicit?" Both pieces of media are important. Even if something doesn't explicitly share the Gospel, it could still be doing important work that will lead people to have a more friendly view of Christianity and the Gospel, which then allows other people/works that are explicitly sharing the Gospel to actually make headway with the nonbeliever they're engaging with. We're in such a hostile environment, that just getting people to take Christianity seriously in media is a brutal headache. Laying the groundwork and stumping for Christianity's importance itself is important in potentially getting people to consider the Gospel. Sometimes it's more effective than actually preaching the Gospel to some people too. Especially if they already know the Gospel but rejected it. They need a world view shift, not another Gospel sermonette.
All of that said, the people who are really concerned about the Gospel being explicitly shared have a great heart. I just want them to understand that there are more ways to share the Gospel and grow the Kingdom beyond what they're envisioning. It's always depressing to watch someone who loves sharing the Gospel tear down other Christians for not sharing the Gospel in a way that meets their expectations.

People dont even know what the 1st gospel is. We have this modernized southern baptist version in our minds. Wes defended and spoke about the 3 big essentials 1. Diety 2. Death 3. Resurrection of Christ and he did so in an apologetic manner. That IS the gospel, not some formula messege that fits in with modern churchyanity.
I would encourage everyone to read Scott McKnights book on this subject "The King Jesus Gospel".

Joe Rogan doesn't need scripture yet. Joe Rogan needs to know the validity and purity of the translations (as well as a lot of his viewers). This has always been his problem and Wes showed him what he needed to know and even more. Once you show him the truth of the translations and he's thought about it more and comes closer to the truth than you give him scripture. This podcast wasn't for preaching it was for giving Joe the information he was seeking in understanding that the Bible is not just a mishmash of telephone conversations of events that may or may not have happened.

The Bible says "We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God - 2 Corinthians 5:20 - Begging is not casual it's desperate because it's so important. (not saying Wes did a bad job. Apologetics as a process is a means to disable the minefield so that someone can take Christianity more seriously.

    • @joeldiaz141
      @joeldiaz141 16 дней назад

Yeah, I hear you. There is a "cookie cutter" way to explain it. Which is fine....
However, according to a letter Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he writes the following: "I have become all things to all people" in 1 Corinthians 9:22. Meaning he adapted himself to different people in order to spread the Gospel and potentially win them over to Christianity; essentially, he became like them, in a sense and to a certain degree, to connect with them on their level.
I also believe one of the best ways to share the Gospel is by allowing God to work in you and through you so others may see what happens when you allow Him to be the center of your life and help you in every aspect of your life as well.
In return, others should automatically take notice and see "the strange", or " the unorthodox" way you live and soon enough ask you questions that can trigger an encouraging conversation.
For example, "why is it that you...." Or "why don't you....." "Why do you look so....". Etc. I hope you get the gist.
It's also better to share the Gospel with others in a way that is somewhat tangible.
      Hope this helps. Be blessed!

More simply, be with people. Talk with them. Ask questions, the meaningful ones. Be open about your life. Enjoy their company. Show them you value them and don't immediately judge them for their actions, but that you want to know and understand them. Therein, and by praying to God for opportunities, opportunities will arise. Just slow down and be with people, and you'll see them.

Even Jesus in John 13:35 said that others will KNOW you are His disciples by how you love one another. And if you listen to the whole podcast, you will hear Wes continually redirect back to the Bible and the intent of why he was there to begin with. Wes yielded to Joe's intellect by answering the questions Joe was asking or has been in question about and redirected Joe back to the Bible and the proven Truths of the Bible. Like most people, Joe KNOWS the Gospel, but he is asking it to be proven, and that is what Wes handed in. In my opinion, Wes was being more "Christian" than most pastors behind a lot of our pulpits! There are different seeds and different watering cans, but there is only ONE Harvester, and that is God Almighty. We are His vessel in how He created us to be, and in our surrender to Him, He will guide us in the world around us and in each heart He has us encounter. This need to control in the church is WHY the church is in a lot of the state it is in!

Maybe God knows how to talk to. Joe Rogan maybe this is what he needed to hear to put two and two together for himself and maybe Wes just planted a seed so that Joe Rogan can think and ponder about and God can grow it

I disagree. I think he took a scholastic and practical approach. Often we may think that preaching the Gospel requires a whole emotional plot of inescapable doom and at the last second, redemption appears. But if that were the case then we wouldn’t need 27 books to exegete the Old Testament so that, as John puts it, “…but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20:31.
Another example is Thomas. He didn’t believe what he was told but what he could see with his own eyes. But it didn’t make him in less a believer or any less saved.
Wes, guided by the Holy Spirit, spoke the Gospel in words that would penetrate the doubts of Joe Rogan and many of his listeners. We are commissioned by Christ to go out into the world and preach the Gospel to all creation. And Paul, in his 1st letter to Corinth, tells them, “…so neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” Ch 3:7.
My point is this, while it is ok to discuss and even exhort what is unbiblical, I think we do better by elaborating on what Wes shared, rather than opine on whether or not he did it most effectively. May God continue to bless you and yours, and may your content continue to Bless God.

Peace everyone and God bless. According to God’s word, The gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, which the Apostle Paul recorded in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Therefore, Wes didn’t fail to preach the gospel. However, the question may be asked did he explain how to respond to the gospel? Which is illustrated throughout the book of Acts. I was personally encouraged by Wes. If there is anyone who would like to further investigate the gospel of our Lord, please contact me and let’s encourage one another. God bless! 🙏🏾❤️

Joe Rogan is almost 60 years old. …He’s heard the accounts in the Bible. Joe needs apologetics. Joe needs to know why/how the Bible is historically accurate.

That opening presentation of the Gospel is too basic imho… lost of kids don’t understand why his sacrifice is even necessary… it is a weird time. I thought did an amazing job. Yes! He has Joe articulating it, so he was successful, and Joe was successful at articulating why it is “hard to get your head around”.

Did Jesus “fail to preach the gospel” in Mark 1? Did Paul fail in Acts 17?
