Gear shift indicator would not show park or neutral when the vehicle warmed up, often having me wait or be stuck somewhere for an hour before it would display correctly and allow me to start the engine. I just had my son's truck fixed, it was stalling out and wouldn't shift right, the trans shop said there is a update to the trans (Newer computer pack and he also said he always replaces the (2) valves and springs in the valve body . He said he has seen enough other shops customers coming in right after they had their computers replaced and all he had to do is replace the valves with new ones. He told me he's been doing it for 3 years now and hasn't had anyone coming back with shifting problems, He has had a few where he had to replace the whole valve body in order to correct the shifting problem, he said he tore the valve bodies apart completely, and he couldn't see anything wrong with them, but they still shifted hard or mis-shifted right to lockup , and all he had to do was replace the valve body and it corrected it. IF you replace your computer and still have a hard shift or erratic shift, then replace the valve body and you should be fine. My son's Cost $750 all together for the updated computer & harness end, valves, Used valve body and fluids, (2) filters and seal And a $125 flash from the jeep Auto dealer, and it works great I know I got a cheap deal on my work but he had now run into the problem with replacing the valve bodies till now and he worked on it for 2 days, He could have charged me for all the hours he had 2 guys working on it, but he told me it was a learning session for them also so he didn't charge me more, he's a great guy to deal with. . You also have to have your Engine computer checked to see if it has the latest flash from the factory. so the updated computer will work, most vehicles are updated cause most people usual take a newer vehicle to the dealer for maintenance while they are new and they always do service recalls then for their customers. The guy who had my sons never did that so his wasn't flashed to the newest update and the recall was out of warranty so I had to pay to have it done. Hope you have good luck and don't run into problems like we did with my sons truck.
