  • To enhance fuel economy Chrysler released the A500/A518 overdrives in the late 80s and 90s. The units were retitled 42/48RH/RE. Computer control was limited on these models.
To further improve the offering Chrysler released the RFE (Rear wheel, Fully Electronic) family of transmissions in 1999. Although the transmissions started out as four speed, they became five speeds and even six speeds in later years. The list entails 45RFE, 545RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE & 68RFE.
Over the years, changes have occurred to components such as the pump, valve body and solenoid body with the most recent changes occurring in 2019. Use caution when interchanging parts.

So You Can Pretty Much Turn A 5 Check Ball Valve Body Into A 7 Check Ball Valve Body? Just Add 3 Check Balls, 7 Ball Separator Plate And Use The White Solenoid Pack And Correct TRS?

To have a universal valve body requires modification and not just adding or deleting check balls. Companies that do this work have developed the best procedures to avoid issues.

Did the 2018 and Prior RFE's have a separate TCC solenoid like the 2019+?

I just rebuilt the valve body on my 2004 Ram 1500 545rfe and in the process I accidentally moved the TRS plate from its original position. Can you tell me where it should be located to match the park position of the gearshift lever?

I had replaced the valve body and the solenoid shift module, I feel I received a bad shift solenoid . I get incorrect gear ratio 5th gear or sometimes 6th gear . It’s 100% solid shifts from start to 6th on highway…. If I need to kick down to 5th or 4th. From 6th (because of hill or whatever). It will everytime bump and give me code of that incorrect gear ratio .. now my question is , am I right about the shift solenoid being bad ? I almost feel like the center screw was stripped when I attached it to the new valve body. 2016 ram 2500 6.4 .
