    You are right on the wrong naming for the GX9! But when you own a GX85 like me, I don't see enough improvements for double the price of the GX85.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +2

      Justifying the price just released camera over the previous model is always difficult, there are some nice improvements, but generally GX85 is still a great camera.

    Picked the g9 up for about 30% off it's SRP then bought a 15mm Pana Leica. Loving it very much :)

    Its great that we got so many cameras to choose from in the mft format. I've had my E-M1 MkII since it was released and I couldn't be happier. It's been with me up in the swedish mountains hiking for weeks in rain storms, blizzards and (for northern Sweden) extreme heat and never ever have I wished I had "more". It always perform!
    Mft is a great system and you really make that show in this video! The camera seems to be a stellar pice of equipment! Greatly done!

    Agree on GX9 naming... if they called it GX90/95 no one would say a word against it.

    • @TheHybridShooter

      Yes, that would be better choice in my opinion, but people would probably still complaint that the wanted GX8 successor.

    I love your comprehensive reviews. We need to see you! Get in front of the camera sometimes, don't be shy.
    The G9 body is $1,700 US on Amazon. The lens you suggested (12-60MM, F2.8-4.0) is $800. That totals $2,500. I bought my G85 with the 12-60MM, F3.5-4.0) for $812 on Ebay. That's TRIPLE the price!!!! I love my G85 and cannot see enough improvements for the huge price difference. I do like the joystick though.

    I have two GH5's. The only thing that makes me hesitate about picking up a G9 is the video recording limit. I see some people have posted tutorials on how to get around the recording limit. It seems a little sketchy to me.

    I think one of the problems at least in Australia with the GX9 is the price. You can get the G85 for only a few dollars more. If the GX9 had a better viewfinder it would have been better value.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      The G85 is actually a bit cheaper than GX9 pre-order prices here, but the GX9 is brand new camera, wheres the G85 was released in 2016 so that is to be expected.

  • @thatsreallyamoon

    Yeah the naming for the GX9 should really be GX95, a direct improvement to the GX85.
    But hopefully, it doesn't actually result in any problems, as anyone spending $500+ on anything should be reading the description of what the camera is anyways. They will soon see it doesn't have the water resistance of the GX8, etc.

    I'm pretty pleased with to upper read out display it saves me so much time checking my aperture and iso, I never got used to using the back display. Like you said I barely need to go into the menu as I have so many fn buttons. I was waiting for the gx9 but glad I went with the G9 as it's a great camera and I was upgrading from a gx80 and the gx9 doesn't look like much of and upgrade. Thanks for the video great work as always.

    Hey I just want to say that I love your videos and you have helped me so much to make my decision easier, I just would like to ask your opinion, I would like to have the best possible hybrid camera for both photos and videos equally ( I do a lot of vlogs and film B- rolls and I take photos to my instagram and want the best possible of both worlds) Would you pick the Sony a7iii, the gh5 or g9 for my needs with your experience and opinion? Thank you once again and keep up the good work you deserve so much more! I will share your videos to my friends!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      Thank you, I'm glad that my videos where useful, I haven't used A7III yet, I will probably make A7III review next week, but it seems like it will provide the best results, the low light will be great and it has that full frame look, G9 still has very good image quality, the best stabilization and handling and it also has flip-out screen. I would only consider the GH5 if you can use very advanced futures like ALL-I codec or 400 mbps bitrate.

  • @paznit

    I've heard that the weather selling isn't fully covered under the Panasonic warranty service, which leans me towards the Olympus em1 mk2. You may save on price on the G9, but the Olympus support seems worth the extra buck with a better performance on moving subjects. What are your thoughts @Hybrid Shooter?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  5 лет назад

      As far as I know, no camera manufacturer would accept warranty claims for damage caused by weather sealing failure. Panasonic is also launching Pro support, they are really putting a lot of effort into that. WIth FW 1.2 tracking performance is very good on the G9, but I haven't compared it to EM1 II

    two more questions: 1) in manual video mode, can we set the ISO to auto? In G85, it cannot be set to auto. 2) In cinelike-D, is continuous autofocus working? I remember you mentioned that, on G85 cinelike-D, AFC is not working

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +1

      1) Yes, that is finally possible on G9. 2) Yes, that you can use AF-C with Cinelike-D. AF-C works with Cinelike-D on G85 as well.

    Hey @The Hybrid Shooter I am currently using Nikon but I really like the look of the Panasonic cameras and they seem great. Just one question, does that micro 4 thirds sensor ever prevent you from getting the bokeh you want? That 80 megapixel mode seems so cool though! The possibilities there, man.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      The bokeh depends more on the lens than the sensor size, if you use something like F0.95 lens or even Panasonics F1.4 lenses on MFT you can get good amount of background blur.

  • @leanderhoefler7054
    @leanderhoefler7054 6 лет назад +1

    I use the G9 for landscape photography and the High Res mode is great (also delivers better results then the OM-D EM 1 Mark II as far as I can tell). Just wish Panasonic would allow bracketing in this mode..
    One question: With my copy, when pressing the Play button to review my pictures it takes about 1-2s before I can see the images and can scroll through them. I have no similar thing on my GX80 though and I‘m using UHS II cards from SanDisk on the G9. Not a dealbreaker but annoying. Have you experienced a similar problem?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, it unfortunately happens on mine as well. I hope that Panasonic will fix that in the FW update.

    • @RuiCorreiaRuca
      @RuiCorreiaRuca 6 лет назад

      I've experienced that issue using a Lexar 1000x on my G7 and testing a GH5, not a problem on the G9 so I gees they upgraded the "SD card electronics").....read This: www.cameramemoryspeed.com/panasonic-gh5/fastest-sd-cards/

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +1

      I use SanDisk Extreme Pro 128 and 64 GB UHS-I cards and it is definitely slower than on G85 for example, it usually takes less than 1 second on my G9, but I still hope that they will fix that in FW update.

  • @Shok1t
    @Shok1t 6 лет назад

    Hello my friend, I became re-acclimated with photography using the FZ1000. I like it for most subjects. I am more of a stills shooter. My concerns are low light & reach wrt to shooting birds, airshow subjects which the fz1000 doesn't do well with in low light or at long distances. If I migrate to the G9 w/ Panny's 100-400, how comparable would the results be against the Nikon's D500 w/ 200-500? I see that many wildlife shooters go w/ Nikons dslrs. My other interests include cityscape, landscape, food, and car photography. Also wondering if I should consider Fuji's XT-2. I would rather not chimp with an OVF but maybe it's not that big of a compromise if the IQ from Nikon long glass is significant. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      I have never used Nikon D500 or XT-2 so I unfortunately can't compare those to the G9.

    vs. the x-h1 ?? for me i love that panasonics built in diopter covers my +3, which fuji and nikon do not (granted nikon has screw ons but only for their high end cams which are full frame)

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +1

      I do like the X-H1, I would love to test it, but it unfortunately won't happen. I would still choose the G9, but X-H1 is definitely step in right direction.

    • @giannagiavelli5098
      @giannagiavelli5098 6 лет назад

      I think so also. I'm very happy with panasonic. I think the 80mb mode is going to be cool. the only issue is you lose the 10bit color of the gh5 which is actually a huge deal for grading. but the new viewfinder sounds fantastic. its hard to chose between them but as I'm poor and can't afford these fancy toys, I'm happy with my g7 for now. its a good travel camera and does nice video. with my old metal nikon f mount lenses on a reducing convertor its really nice.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      From what I have seen the 10-bit on GH5 is very disappointing and it makes little difference in comparison to 8-bit, take a look at EVA1 vs GH5 video on Andyax channel.

    Good video. just bought the G9, just curious why is it you don't like about the slow-mo ?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      Thank you, the slow-mo video is soft and it looks compressed and it is not proper 180 frames, just slowed down 25 or 30 frames, also the manual settings and AF are not available while shooting slow-mo.

    • @RuiCorreiaRuca
      @RuiCorreiaRuca 6 лет назад

      Very happy with the g9(...g6»»»g7...) and slomo is good enough for me if in good light and if you watch out for moiré;) just for people movement you can always shoot 60p and slow down to 25/24p!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      180p slow-motion is usable for some applications, but I only 4K 60p slow-mo on G9. If I want higher frame rate, I use Sony A6500, since it shoots proper 120 fps footage.

    Hmmmm I have been waiting a year for a GX8 MkII but everything else has been introduced instead. I was put off by the G9 because of size, the LCD and similarity to the DSLRs I recently dumped but I have to say the G9 is starting to grow on me ;-)

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +1

      I was also awaiting the GX8 successor, I hope that they will renew the high-end rangefinder in the future. If the G9 is too big for you take a look at G85, that is still great camera IMO.

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox 6 лет назад +1

      I wanted a 20MP rangefinder style upgrade to my lovely GX7 but I wanted weatherproofing for nature rambles, filter removal and shock proof shutter. The GX9 would be absolutely perfect but no weather sealing. I have considered the G85, it is a great camera and has all my required upgrades but not the 20MP. I prefer the rangefinder form factor as it matches my Leica X113 and T. With 4 Panasonic flagship camera releases in a year i cant see a GX9 upgrade any time soon but who knows, maybe ;-)

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      Yes, it definitely should have been weather sealed, there is no excuse for that.

      Well I had the D7100 and I completely lost it on holiday when I missed a watervole fumbling with the compensation, I ended up using my Olympus TG-3 all week to avoid teh weight and the Nikon was left in a drawer. When i got home I bought a used GX7 to try MFT and was blown away that with an Olympus 17mm f1.8 and a 14-140mm it actually had better image quality. I sold all my Nikon stuff and switched to Panasonic. It perfectly matches my Leicas ;-)

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox 6 лет назад

      I have been a Nikon user since 1990 and still have a FM2n with three primes that I use for film. My attempts at converting it to digital were a disappointment, I went through D80, D7100 and D700 in 3 years. In the end I just sold it all and bought a cheap used Leica T and an adapter for my Nikkor prime lenses and bought a complete Panasonic system for daily use. Yes the jpgs out of the Panasonic are better than the raw out of my D7100. The D700 image quality was lovely but it is over a Kilo with a prime on it. I can slip my Panasonic GX7 and a couple of lenses in my handbag. Happy at last ;-)

    Hi, I wish the preview button hadn't been moved to the left corner of the G9. I like having quick access to this button with my right thumb. Do you know if It's possible to reconfigure the preview to a right side function button? Also on my Fz2500 I've changed the exposure button on top - next to the shutter - to be my focus ( I made the front wheel my exposure ). I prefer that it's not on the back of the camera but closer to the shutter button. I assume that the top 3 buttons on the G9 are dedicated / fixed & can not be changed. Could you tell me if one of the two front - by the lens - function buttons can be re-set to be the focus? I've subscribed & have been enjoying your videos. Thanks, Ray

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      Thank you Ray, I appreciate your subscription. You can set both preview and AF-ON to any of the custom buttons expect those 3 button on the top and the video recording button.

    • @rayjenkins2754

      Then this would mean that the default green preview button - upper left corner - could then be configured to be something else?

      The preview is by default set to the lower button on the front of the camera, it can be changed to anything else. Only the buttons on the top and the playback menu buttons can't be reprogrammed.

      Depends on your preferences. GH5 has some special futures like unlimited recording, 10-bit and so on, so it depends on whether you can use that. G9 ha the best stabilization, handling and better AF, A6500 has the best AF, image quality and low light.
