If you look at some of the most hated modern mps like bumblebee and optimus, they are panely messes. Newer releases like Jetfire, trailbreaker, and skids are complex but they aren't unnecessarily so. There is a balance you need to strike imo.

Skids (and Reboost and Crosscut) aren't as random a release as you might think. The car they're based on, the Honda City, is very popular in Japan, and 2021 is the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the City model.
Am I wrong in thinking that the engineering seems comparable to a leader class figure? While Skids looks great, there's just something about it (and this is just strictly an opinion) that makes me think he could have easily been on the more sophisticated side of a leader class price point.
Finally a good-size, good-price, good-transforming MP figure that's actually worthy of the MP line. Took them long enough. Here's hoping this will spark more figures of this design philosophy but I doubt it.
The way it's got so much sculpted detail it feels like a sculpt from a decade ago as well. Not that that's a bad thing, it just fits in more with the MP-10 aesthetic than the MP-44
I haven’t liked Masterpiece since they went full cartoon. Sunstreaker was the last one I ever got. (Glad you like them, but I’m more of a toy guy.) Thank you for this review, I’m totally going to pick Skids up as he does remind me of older masterpiece figures, which is much more my thing.
At my childhood, i though that, Skids first appearance was at Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, but actually, the first time Skids appear from Transformers G1 Marvel comic book 😅. Weird because at Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Skids's face was hideous and his body design was fat and his right arm was bigger and longer and his left arm was smaller and shorter and lastly his legs was short and major his body colouration was lighter green, that's why 😅, but compared with G1 Skids from Transformers G1 Marvel comic book, Skids's face was handsome and major his body design was humanoid and his major body colouration was dark blue and he come with two guns 😃. Masterpiece type figure is little bit expensive for me to add in my Transformers collection ☹️. Overall, cool review, EmGo's 😄. Salam dari Malaysia 🇲🇾.
Glad they’re going back to the more toy-accurate designs again and not so cartoon focused. I really have not enjoyed the simpler color schemes and blockier designs of the cartoon aesthetic.

We have a masterpiece skids because of a RUclipsre named Thew Atoms, He did a skid's retrospective about a year ago before we got this figure Looking at all the figures of skids from the past my guess is somebody from the car it was from takara or Hasbro was watching
When I stand this next to my Prowl and Sideswipe, it's obvious this is a very old design they decided to release anyway without updating to the more modern toon aesthetic with super articulation.
It sucks but I'm starting to think we're never going to be getting MP versions that desperately need one like the rest of the Dinobots, Jazz, Mirage, Galvatron, etc.
Im a little dissapointed that it dosnt come with the city turbos little fold up honda bike, i believe the g1 figure comes with it, as does the x transbots version
I think they are seeing what is selling in the third party companies and then making them. Before the release there was savant, before the release of raider there was news of the third party version

I thought the same thing. I saw some things that were better and some that were a LOT worse. Honestly I think the X-Transbots one is better. Glad I got their build of this character rather than waiting on Takara's release.
He's cool but for some reason he just doesn't scream MP to me. His arms are super skinny,definitely like his G1 counterpart. He seems like a souped up Studio Series to me.Awesome review as always! Thanks Em!

X-Transbots made a mp Skits a few years ago as well, but it has some arm issues.
After his 5 seconds of screentime in G1 and the constant requests of the fanbase, this was inevitable.
I appreciate the design on this figure, I miss MPs having that nice mix of cartoon accuracy and real-world details for the alt-mode.

The PHD is a good analogy because some of the later masterpiece figures require you to take out a loan
Personally I would have preferred the Seacon's as the first MP Combiner.

Skids was a favorite of mine in the G1 era (yes, I'm old). I will have to see how much he is and get him if he won't damage the wallet too much.
Happy to report that the price is fairly reasonable, unlike previous releases like Prime 2.0, Hound, Arcee and Bee 2.0

5 inches long, probably $700. Somehow this toy will manage to out price a real City Turbo.

Skids of all the characters to release in the masterpiece line is the only figure in recent years that isn’t plagued with QC issues.
