This piece is certainly not line-defining, but I do love it. It feels like a throwback to the MP-10 era of masterpieces

It really does, the superfluous detail is killing it for me. It's like it's been sitting on a shelf for a decade at takara and they forgot to release it
I wanted to comment about those mirrors but I told myself to wait until the end. Gave me a laugh. Can't wait for the versus.
having an unpainted mid section seems reasonable as all the articulation in that part might cause some paint chipping otherwise

Man, this is like the nicest official MP that's come out in a while. Simple but effective. Not trying to be fancy, nothing faux, just a Masterpiece take on Skids

Saw this transformation on another channel and thought "if I get that, I will 100% ALWAYS forget to put those mirrors away." Nice to see it won't just be me...
Gaps, tons of clear plastic, limited articulation, and a hollow chest. Not a good contrast to what expected flaws the Legacy figure will be offering. Maybe it's a "difficult Character design".
It take a lot of cues from the original toy. Like they were doing at the beginning of the MP line. Which I personally preferred, I like how they were in between the cartoon and the toy. I liked the hound better once I added a few details, like the gold on the hood and the additional stars. Sunstreaker pops so much better with the black along the bottom and a little metallic dark red in the back, as well as matte black in the sides in the depression. Adding some chrome details to Inferno, as well as swapping some of the MP Artfire's chrome parts, along with custom chrome bumpers for the rear lifted him from being a red brick. Just my opinion, but they look so much better now, especially in their alt modes.
MP skids side mirrors should be folded into the hood in bot mode. Its a beautiful piece, the xtb version looks like typical china crap next to it.

I just feel Skids doesn't get the 'love' that others do by companies. As a G1 comic/cartoon look I've always liked him, but its just not translating over for me into a figure. At this point Id be happy with an IDW Skids figure
Same engineering as in Binaltech, but better proportions.
I am really liking this guy! Good paint, straightforward transformation, solid construction, and a price that won’t murder my wallet.

Great review. I have swapped out the xtb, even though I think that looks better in a lot of ways (but not the head sculpt, yeesh), because the TT is more fun. I still mess with my TF's and that's a big factor for me. My real nitpick is the lack of rear hip movement, there's no reason for that.
completely agree about the extension of the hip joint. I wonder though if it was done intentionally to give the alt mode more stability as the hips fall right into the middle of the vehicle mode. If they had put in the hip extension they would have had to figure out how to 'lock' the center of the robot into place when in alt mode else he'd fold in half causing issues, imo. (Not an engineer)
The raw plastic feels very mid-grade CHUG. It's fine, but doesn't quite feel as premium as an MP should. I've got some loose hips on mine as well. I find him oddly limited in posing him as well. A just 'fine' release.
This is the 1st official MP, in a very long time, that I'm entertaining the prospect of buying. But Drift needs to work on them arms.
If you ask me, the cartoon accurate but stupid complex stuff hasn't really been my cup of tea. Skids, and his mold mates, feel like a breath of fresh air. Is he the best thing ever? No. And he's not trying to be. He's Skids, and a fun, affordable Skids at that. That's enough for me.
How many people commented that you forgot that transformation step instead of watching the whole video to see if you corrected it 🤣

Thanks for the review! I agree with the hollow criticism for sure. The Datsuns I think are comparable with hollowness in the back of their legs and similar looking backpacks. I feel like this skids is meant to "fit in" with those figures. I think this piece has taken 12 months from tease to release so I suppose we'll see a new tease of their super dopey skyfire soon But All I want for Christmas/NY from TT is a tease for another beast wars mp figure. 😂
I'd settle for at least the 3 remaining Maximals, c'mon TT don't make me wait 10 years for some 3rd Party to finally fill the gaps when there's only 3 left, but I'd settle for just Airazor+Rattrap.

@@bigfornoreason1 I doubt it. The FansToys one is going to be hard to beat. It's an amazing figure. And I'm no FansToys fanboy, but it's really that good. It's just pricey right now, but then again, so is most everything from Takara.
I have the X-Transbots Chopshop and I was keeping a close eye on the reviews because the early pictures were interesting but after seeing the reviews of it I am 100% happy with X-Transbots. The articulation for X-Transbots is way better than this one. Most reviews don't even notice that the Takara has NO ab crunch. Also the X-Transbots has a waist swivel and does this one have one at all? I can pose my X-Transbots one in so many very cool poses that blow this one out of the water. His legs and ankles are so much better. I posed my Chopshop in the pose of Neo dodging bullets from The Matrix and he could hold the pose perfectly without falling over and he looked amazing. This Takara one can't even get close to any pose this dynamic. Also he doesn't have a faux rear section to his legs which is very noticeable in the Takara one when the part's windshield is now the matte blue plastic color instead of looking like the rear windshield. I love the interior detail of the X-Transbots one which includes seats.
The one area that I really like about this Takara build over the X-Transbots one is that the car mode is smaller so it fits better proportionally with the other carbots. That said I like the rubber tires on the X-Transbots build better and it has a more premium feel with more diecast in it. I am looking forward to the verses here. Thanks for the review Skullface!

Looks more like a chug figure than something from the MP line, and it's styling is completely at odds with something like MP Hound. I would swear this was an older design that they didn't bother updating for the more modern, toon accurate aesthetic.
His mirrors fold in under the engine hood also. Only thing I think you missed on the transformation... AND you fixed it at the end ;P
He is definitely a mixed bag. I like him better than the Xtransbot version. Takara did miss a few things with him.
This gives me the vibes of, "if alternators were done right." Although granted, it'd be bigger & have car seats as an alternator (both of which would be better).
That was my thoughts as well, just a painted Alternator.
I picked up Reboost because I'm keeping XTB Skids, looking forward to the versus. The off-centre shoulders are really jarring and kinda hinder poseability options.

Thanks Bobby, I have to say...another Fail from TT. The cars proportions are a bit off especially the front. The shoulders reminds me of MP Tracks, the Hollow bits in the knees just screams Cheap and the no Swing back legs are just Stupid. Here's my take...Its UnFinished...
Huh. Neat. It definitely gives a vibe of the MP10 era stuff. I think that if it doesn't take TOO LONG to happen, I may hold out and nab this when Crosscut comes out.
I think I'll have to get Skids. I too have the XTB version and I like it but despite not caring for Skids, I think I'd be more than happy with two (something about the colours and the vehicle mode just really do it for me). Clearly, neither are perfect, but both seem to be pretty good.
There are still some weird modern Takara shortcuts, but at least it's not a complete mess like their recent Masterpiece figures...
When you do the VS. I think you'll find that the paint, sculpt, tolerances, and general presence are better on Takara. Accuracy/likeness: Takara is toy accurate and XTB is toon.
This figure kind of reminds me of MMC's Reformatted line, far and above anything Hasbro puts out in the CHUG line, but just short of being considered a Masterpiece-tier figure.
I think this is way batter than the X transbots version, looks soo much better and is my favourite MP figure released since MP 36
Not bad, but the issues with this figure are too glaring in my opinion. The head is too small, and it sits too far back despite the nice sculpt. It's arms are too skinny. It doesn't have much of an abdomen. WAFFLES! The legs can't kick back. Overall, it's an early 2000's c.h.u.g. at an early 2000's masterpiece price. Soft pass, Mr. "Sidepiece" Skullface, so to speak.
Doesn’t fit in with MP Very chug-ish. Too small. Arms are a mess and more Alternator style than most.

I like this weirdo. He's not the greatest but he's better priced I'd say. All in all, I'm happy with my Skids. Interested to see your comparison with XTB. Personally, I'm swapping out and for the most Stupidly pathetically small reason... The Takara version has the scoop which is missing on the XTB version.
Also bought the red one as those are the two G1 versions I have. Well, Diaclone and G1 I suppose.

Good video. I gave up Transformers about 7 years ago. I sold them all and I don't regret it. The quality has gone so far down. It's sad to see KO bots with such better quality that Takara Hasbro. IDK maybe it's a good thing? Either way still fun to watch other people play with them.

I end up getting this because of the alt mode. I love the old school JDM vehicles.

I’d say maybe pick up the reboots/crosswise repaints due to they come with more for the same price, if you like skids then get that figure but if you want bang for buck get the repaints
ofcourse we use the gun to pull up the head, as one would.
This is a weird one for me. I should be happy for any FT / TT release, but i really don t know skids and the quality seems a bit meh to me. I guess the unpainted parts throw it off for me....
I like this Skids, but the thighs are real loose on mine. It kinda looked like yours were too a little. He’s a keeper but yeah they could’ve worked a little harder on this one.
He seems like a souped up Studio Series Skids to me. Nice looking figure, just not sure if MP.

I'll be honest I was expecting a LOT more issues from not having a backwards leg-swing, but i GUESS the split in the thigh can give you that movement while ruining the sculpt so it's not the WORST thing? I'm getting the mold as Reboost, but i'll keep Savant as my Skids.

Good review. I look forward to the Versus. I have watched another versus and was surprised. The hips are a shock as it is almost given you get the full monty and full van damme in articulation. The should joint is weird. I love the alt mode but was disappointed they didn't include the mini bike that you get with their Reboost and Crosscut figures. This figure feels like one they were working on before Sunstreaker that they shelved to remake OP and the Seekers with the new aesthetic. The hip articulation and lack of little bike are the only complaints I have.

Funny how its chuggish around the same time they're making the Legacy version. No such thing as coincidence I guess.
I actually love this thing, maybe because I had low expectations and it's a character I don't expect/need perfection from, but man it's fun. I can go for more like this if it means good looking yet fun transformations. Not perfect by any means, but amazingly one of my favorites of the year.
I had trouble tabbing the backpack in, then checked the instructions. It has you recollapse the slider for the liftgate before tucking it all back in.
It then tabs in better and slightly reduces the size of the windshield behind his head.
Great honest review, other reviewers dont point out the gaps in the knee/thighs which is not masterpiece, and I agree it is still a great figure especially for the pricepoint.

Windows are TOO blue. I really dislike the "toon" blue windows Takara has been using lately but this is almost florescent. The smoked windows that Takara used to use would have been a much better look due to all the blue of the figure overall. IMO. I may try to "tint" or paint them, though I loth making permanent modification to my collectables.
The big window on the back of his head IS correct weather you are using the cartoon or the toy as your reference. It is supposed to be there just like it is on this version.
The hollow bits do suck. Still, a butt load better than XTB Savant. I frigg'n HATE that figure. Most regretted purchase I ever made. Will replace my XTB as soon as Takara is in my hand. Love the return to the "scale model" aesthetic.
SHOULD have come with the rest of the blasters like Crosscut and Reboost Did, as well as a more "toy" style head as a swappable option.... Like Inferno and Grapple did.

The proto images for this dropped immediately after I'd lost patience and picked up the XTB. I much prefer the Takara except for the headsculpt which just doesn't look like Skids to me. Didn't they originally announce swap-out parts to do toy and 'toon versions?...
The toy head is only available with the two repaints, because Takara.
@@GareWorks aren't they both using the alternate Diaclone head? I'm pretty sure Takara teased swap-out shoulder details, too?
We need a Masterpiece G1 Skids 2.0 mold in the works. Version 1.0 ALMOST looks good.
As unsightly as the shoulder hinge is,it’s animation accurate. I wonder if his head snaps in like with Tracks.
It’s not animation accurate but it’s closer than the xtb. The animation model is even worse. More news on this on Saturday

It's a long story about him and his buddy in a biology class or something and there were images of feet of a John Doe on the screen they were watching and his buddy yelled out really loudly "FEET" and it was just one of those things that stuck with him through the years. I may not have it 100% accurate but I think it's pretty close.
@@joshuag286 my wife n I do the same thing when one of us sees (especially the bottoms) feet in a movie or whatever. Feet can easily be funny for some reason. Ever since I was a kid... I still like robot toys so of course I would still find them funny in certain situations as I did when I was a kid.
