Nice review! It’s really annoying me that they did Skids as the turbo, which has meant the Autobot faction is off to the side on the raised part of the bonnet. As opposed to central on his chest.

I'd say that Reboost head mold almost has a Powermaster OP or God Ginrai look.

Yep, with "boost" in the name it would have made more sense to make the red one the Turbo version. 😉

@@gtoney Back when Hasbro looked at Takara Diaclone's assortment to figure out what to import into the States, Hasbro probably figured they needed a blue car to break up all the red and white ones, and they probably thought a turbo hood bump brought cool points. The whole "skids" thing was Budiansky just looking for SOMEBODY to drop the idea of automotive skidmarks onto, because it made total sense for an Autobot.
But when the idea came up of revisiting the Diaclone line for additional Transformers characters to be retroactively introduced, things got tricky. Reboost makes a decent name, but not for a non-boosted, normally aspirated car. But they had already given a different name to the blue Turbo version, and they didn't want to undo it decades later.
Oh well, what's done is done. Takara can shrug it off as that whole language barrier thing. 😋

Good review. I had a Chevy Celebrity,a Ford Crown Vic,a Nissan 240sx,and now a Nissan Xterra. I always wondered how at least three of those vehicles would transform if they were turned into Transformers.

I have both of these. I really like them. I agree on you're negatives. I lost an arm to the hologram dude. It's so flimsy. But I recommend both figures

Anyone else noticed the windows on reboost's calf faux parts are painted to match the actual windows while on Skids they aren't?
If this was intentional I really don't understand why. It's not because of budget or cartoon accuracy as far as I know. It just stands out on an otherwise really good looking figure. It makes the faux parts look especially fake and doesn't serve the purpose faux parts set out to. I'm really puzzled, still getting it though and maybe painting the windows myself
The picture of the animation Skids you show it looks like a cross between a hummer and a minivan it looks nothing like the Honda City
Good ol' animators. This is why I don't see the point of worshipping at the shrine of toon accuracy. Alt modes should be realistic, IMO. Toon should factor into giving bot modes more heroic proportions, as long as alt modes don't have to suffer for it. But I played with my TFs in alt mode far more often as a kid, because the vintage G1 bot modes looked so chonky, so I am biased.

The official TakaraTomy Masterpiece MP-53 G1 Skids mold is G1 toy model-accurate, but has the G1 cartoon Skids paint scheme. The official TakaraTomy Masterpiece version of G1 Skids needs a G1 cartoon model-accurate version 2.0 mold. Version 1.0 ALMOST looks good.
Was Skids a Minibot? I never had him G1. I assumed he was a Carbot.
I may be mistaken, his car mode is definitely smaller than others tho in real life

As a kid in the '80s, I thought the G1 toy represented a minivan. That class of vehicles was all the rage with the middle class back then, so it was a perfectly natural assumption. But yeah, the real Honda City is a subcompact hatchback, so it may as well be a Minicar. However, a Beetle is as big as a Countach, so at some point the dividing lines become very blurred!
P.s.: Skids maybe should be seen as similar in size to the minicar twins from the Bayformers films. NOT similar in personality!

Definitely a huge change from its previous style. Much more Binal Tech like. Realistic vehicle mode much better. Bobby would be pleased. I think this is the better approach.

ahh a new thing; "MP chug" -- cheap plastics, crappy arms and even pushing the envelope to see if the fandom will stomach a little waffles on the inside thigh there., 😬
Got mine and was happy with Reboost ... until I got near the end and find he has a PATHETIC loose right shoulder joint.
I cannot stand how they are being made with such shoddy QC. All joints on any figure should be nice and tight when fresh from a box. Unacceptable. And this is why I gave up on MP's especially after the over priced "cartoon accurate" releases took over.
