Gives me an Alternators Optimus Prime vibe
It does! I used to own the Alternators Prime
They should revisit the concept of “Carrimus Prime,” (what I’m calling Alternators Optimus) in Legacy, hopefully.
I’d like to see Transformers embrace the Weird and change designs instead of being addicted to G1/Prime/Movieverse/Animated designs. I wanna see Grimlock as a Construction Vehicle or Megatron as a Dodge Avenger or Bumblebee as a Volkswagen Jetta, something in that sort of idea or direction. I wanna see Optimus Prime as a car or another altmode instead of a Semi-Truck.

This mold is full of those Alternators and old-school Masterpiece energy with that real-life vehicle details.
Which is good, since Skids' appearances in the G1 cartoon was practically cameo levels.
It's part of Honda's anniversary.
not sure about that with its lack of interior.
I like this "older" style MP transformation. Simple, intuitive and nostalgic. Blending the G1 toy and cartoon look, rather than trying to be totally 'toon like the recent MP offerings. I suspect this was designed years ago, and was probably awaiting licensing from Honda.
that could be the case, but also, skids almost never appears in the g1 cartoon, so it’s possible that it’s more toy-accurate because that’s almost all they went off when designing it

Aye, nice not having to mess about with flaps and endless fiddly panels. Just a good solid fun transformation.
That leg transformation is definitely an oldschool 'Masterpiece moment' for sure
I wished we got a MP Jazz after the MP Datsuns (I know Porsche wont let them). Then it would of been in the toy style not the newer cartoon style.
Despite being a new MP figure, this figure really brings back the nostalgic vibes of the older, simpler MP figures. This certainly is one of the contender for Best MP this year.
Kinda hoping we will get Masterpiece Crosscut for those Interstellar fans that would want Geewun versions of the entire cast

According to TF Wiki, Reboost is based on a Diaclone figure that later became G1 Skids.

Kind of humbling that engineering from Alternators days are now being classed as Masterpiece
transformation being more complex is often a failure not an achievement. This one did it right. No unnecessary moves. Very clean

I like the colors of Reboost. I think that he will definitely stand out in the shelf.
I imagine this character being like a cringy homeless uncle hidden in the shadows of Cybertron's streets who's a bit insecure, but has a big heart and is kind since he looks up to Optimus Prime as a role model.
He doesn't realize how much the Autobots need him (whatever that may be). He then realizes his worth later on and meets Optimus Prime and hears him say "I'm proud of you, soldier."
I don't know. I think that would be cool.

Reboost doesn’t seem to have much about him on a story-telling standpoint at the moment, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s good friends with Optimus or is even heavily inspired by the legendary Prime and believes in the same things and such. But I’m not sure.
So tempting! Prime's got a red compact bike as an accessory.

It looks almost like a diecast with the nice paint
Takara Finally going back to its MP roots. It's what started it all and I'm so so happy it is all coming Full circle. Love it.
I like it, it's a solidly engineered and G1 reminiscent figure. However, I know nothing about the character and he sort of looks a bit like they've just taken design features from several other bots and crammed them in to make a new one.
That's because there was NEVER a character named "reboost" in G1.. Its simply a red repaint of skids to pay homage to te red pre transformers Diaclone car robo version of the toy that would become skids.
Nope, he's a Diaclone figure, hence why he comes with the clear plastic figure. Skids is the G1 Transformer. Kind of like Tracks and Road Rage as Road Rage is also a Diaclone. I bought this as he reminds me of You're Under Arrest with the Honda Today and Honda Motocompo.
There's something about this guy that does it for me. Kinda generic in both modes but I kinda really really like that. It almost makes him unique, paradoxically.

I have Skids on pre-order but this version looks amazing too. Alternators/Binaltech Skids to this day is one of my favourite TF toys, and this is giving me major, major vibes of that toy, both in terms of the looks, and the transformation. I can't wait until my Skids arrives, but I'm slightly wishing I'd gotten this red one. When I was a kid, my aunt would visit us every weekend, and she had a red Fiat which looked so similar to this Honda. I feel I should have gotten the red one now for this nostalgia value!!
Reboost is just optimus prime as a Honda City turbo instead of a truck😁
Actually he's a regular Honda city. The turbo has some visible differences that aren't just specs, like the different front grilles.

I just realised what it reminds me of that SUV Optimus Takara made a few years ago where the body panels were swapable coloured parts - this one looks like the default red version of that Optimus quite a Bit - I really do agree with PvsP this looks really very nice indeed. so much so that I might buy a Crosscut as well if they make one.
But this one is the must buy colour as it's a "New" Character and so goes into the pile of off-camera crew with things like Road Rage.
I do wish they'd make a Masterpiece Slicer though.
My only criticism is that the motorcycle could have either been a gun or combined with a gun in some way.
My thoughts? Orion Pax I he never became Optimus Prime, but he does look soooo good! I don't collect MP, but he is very tempting.
My headcanon name for this guy is City Convoy. :D

Agreed, super easy Target Red Card exclusive (since they seem to always be red in color. Red Wing, T-Wrecks, and Road Rage so far)

Well my English friend you aren't wrong about that official MP Hound, my old man got me one for Christmas 2020, and the left leg broke easily after falling from a very very small height. I later on got the KO MP Hound and worked just fine
I picked the right time to dive back into robot purchasing.

It's actually a retool, not a repaint. Reboost is a regular Honda city as opposed to the city turbo of Skids. The most noticeable visual difference is the front grille.
I think that was true of Crosscut too wasn't it... no hood bulge on Crosscut either this seems to be pretty much Crosscut in red. Hopefully they will make Crosscut as you'd kinda need them to complement Road Rage.
"Super-cool shiny" parts are vac-metallised or PVD (physical vapour deposition). I don't know if that term (VM/PVD) has left the collectors' vocabulary, as I haven't heard it used or even mentioned, but once, it was a big deal to collectors!
If they made a licensed "You're Under Arrest " version, it would sell like mad!
Oh hell, if I missed it, it would be one of the extremely, extremely few figures I'd be willing to pay a scalper for. It's also the reason why I chose Reboost over Skids as this reminded of the Honda Today and the Honda Motocompo from You're Under Arrest. I don't think Skids comes with the Motocompo.

I think X-Transbot did better on the bot mode in turns of engineering. X-Trans backpack is more clean and "fill up" inside of the chest better. MP-54 upper body is sooo...hollow....you see too many "holes"...and this is a MP... Vehicle mode they fairly the same except MP has the official branded logo.

Love the guy. My only issue is the human falls apart every time you mess with it. If someone has a trick like a rubbery glue that also can be removed later, please comment.

Yeah, Reboost & Crosscut are based on Diaclone variants (Reboost's head is basically a blue Crosscut). I'm not entirely sure, but I think Skids himself was also a variant; I think that the original Honda City figure was basically Skids but with black parts instead of blue.
You're right, that transformation IS pretty simplistic, a very welcome return to form!! Those hands remind me of Hot Rod's, soooooo...these guys *may* kinda suck at holding their weapons (just like Hot Rod).

Finally something good from Takara. This will be the first official masterpiece i buy in years.
My second in years. I bought the Masterpiece Bumblebee Optimus Prime and I really like that figure. I'm so glad I pre-ordered this figure now. It was either Skids or Reboost but I like the mini bike and figure so Reboost it was.
Yeah it's even not an insane price either (like Dinobot or Beast Megatron are)

@@maskai3408No I have not. I seen most of them in hand ( owned by other collectors) In my eyes they are masterpiece size figures with legends scale details. Just look at the recent legends.

I think I'd like to get this guy/Skids mainly for the vehicle mode. I was gonna raise a stink about the windshield behind his head, but it turns out that *is* cartoon accurate, so I guess I can't fault Takara for that.
SG Reboost didn't go through some experience that normaltrash bots would deem traumatic. But you wouldn't know it by watching him.
The brave little robot is known for his reserved personality and his unusual hobbies everyone looks down on. He doesn't let malignant personalities pressure him into living the way THEY think a person should live their lives. He doesn't hide the fact that he has been suffering from a psychological disability all of his life and pampered normaltrash will know when he's suffering more than usual from his disability. The fascists who can't handle that may try to bully him and mock him, but Reboost bravely tries to live with his disability.

i do not even remember this character but this toy itself is cool. I have all recent released so called toon like or 3.0 MP figures, especially MP44, it is not transforming , it is PANEL FORMING.
That's because the character does NOT exist.

This Honda transformer should of been Iron hide instead of optimus because this car seems like what iron hide,s vehicle mode would have been. I'm used to seeing optimus have track window chest.

He’s cool but all those painted transparent parts just make me worry for the longevity of the figure. I’m thinking about gettting either Skids or Crosscut but I really do wish they’d have been able to tuck the panels that make up the upper canopy more into Reboost’s diaphragm. He looks really cool, and I’m all about this hatchback, but I’d still love to see the other guys before I dive in.
Weren’t they going to make a Japanese police version of this too?
If you also do a Skids review can you show him in vehicle mode next to some mp cars? We’ve never had that comparison in any official photos.
My mp skids delivery got pushed back from Dec ‘21 to July ‘22 😒
Nice to see a return to the old "actual" Masterpiece style - rather than the unpleasant "live cartoon" style that has been plaguing the line in the last five years or so. Probably the first Masterpiece I am looking forward to since Cordon. Can't wait to pick this guy up! Thanks for the great review!!!

im gonna pass on this one. X-Transbots knocked this one outta the park. XTB has more diecast, better paint, and the moto compo stows away in the trunk like the real honda city. Official licensing does not a better figure make!

Is a head more short than mp Sunstreaker. If MP Skids have the same size, the figure is out of scale because is too tiny.

@@uainjansun There is still hope though; since VW already licensed the Beetle for the Bee movie and toyline, it's safe to say that they're not as uptight as before on the whole "no licensing to war franchises" thing. With VW and Porsche under the same corporate umbrella, it's only a matter of how much Hasbro is willing to negotiate to make it happen.
