  • How to fix an indoor air conditioner that is not shutting off. On this video, I deal with an ECM blower motor inside an air conditioner that will not shut off. If the blower motor inside your air conditioner is not an ECM motor, then this repair will be different for you as this repair will only work for units that have an ECM blower motor.

    Great video Lex! Those ECM motors have a learning curve on troubleshooting going from PSC motors. I haven't worked on one in awhile but I do know when testing the motor itself once you unplug the module, you should get roughly the same resistance value across each winding & obviously you want to see OL on your meter from each winding to ground. If those all check out you know it's the module that's bad. When you said the resident stated the motor was ramping up and down, from experience that's an easy tell tell sign it's the module. Thankfully you had a module on hand, those things are expensive! Good luck on those & were all learning something new everyday. Stay safe out there brosph! 🔧

      From the transformer. The transformer has high voltage coming in. Like 120 or 240 volts and it steps it down and comes out low voltage. Thank you so much for watching!

    I have a question. When you checked the incoming signal wires across common (brown) and the purple wire, you got 27 vac. Wasn't that the signal calling for the motor to run? If it was, how did that tell you anything? It was already running, so it was doing what was called for. My newer (now 5 years old) unit has an ecm motor and trying to learn about trouble shooting. My brother has the same unit I have and his ECM IFM is also running all the time.

    • @LexVance
      @LexVance  Год назад

      I was just checking. The module was bad and there really isn't anyway to open it up. But, I was just doing a voltage check for the viewers. Thank you so much for watching!

    Ecms are easy if you have intermittent problems its the ecm. it you have constant air flow its the ecm. no air flow? you guessed it ecm! and here we don’t replace modules we get the evergreen replacement ecms and replace the whole motor

      Try pulling the green wire out of the thermostat. If it doesn't run after you do that then I'd say you've got a bad thermostat. Or, the red and green wire are touching some where causing low voltage to keep telling high voltage to stay on.

    Here's a black Friday question for you. I had a tenant call in an emergency after hour maintenance call around 530 pm yesterday (Thanksgiving) because he said he couldn't find a plunger in the store yesterday. He stated he didn't need a maintenance person to come in he just needed a plunger. I messaged him back and told it's not policy to come in after hours because he didn't have a plunger. I told him there were several stores still open close to where he lives. That if I was onsite I would help him out. But I'm not driving 45 minutes on Thanksgiving because he's not able to take care of his apartment. He because upset that he needed to go buy and actual plunger. I mean if he couldn't get it unblocked on his own. I would have told him to call a plumber at his own expense. My question how much responsibility do you put on the tenant to take care of their own apartment? I mean after hour toilet call. I just don't do them!

    • @LexVance
      @LexVance  2 года назад

      If he has another bathroom, I would tell him to use that other bathroom until someone could address his issue during normal business hours. If he has only one bathroom then I would be required to handle it. It sucks being on call on a holiday. I've had to do it a few times. But, I make dang sure that I won't be on call the next holiday season. Thank you so much for watching Robert!

      say don't lie, has it overflowed on the floor? (long odd silence) ohh uhh well yeah... my reply "stick your hand down in there and clean it out" 🤣🤣🤣
      if your on call to a complex, then you = screwed hard, unless co-worker will take your on-call labor in trade for the pay. not proper and both/all could get in trouble. my buddy and co-worker did that long ago, over spring/summer/fall (we spent weekends in WV mountains playing on rail buggies). at times I wrenched for three nights on repairs only to have tow vehicle need a major repair at 3pm, we had to leave by 5:30pm git-r-done? yup, I most always did. except a few times, we took alternate tow vehicles(poo happens?)
