Great Video! I pulled my Thermostat and the fan stopped running. Replaced the thermostat with new one and viola! Everything back to normal. Thank you so much.
Just wanted to thank you cus I tried the bad thermostat test and did it. So when the man came to look over my air again I pointed out what you said he tried it to and it stopped. Then he looked at the thermostat and found the switch was on furnace. Flicked it and all worked great. Thanks again 😮
I had that problem today. The blower would just run. But the problem was a burned transformer. Changed out the transformer and blower stopped running checked system in both heating and cooling mode and now is working properly. Y’all videos are great

For anyone who might need this: He says in the video that if you disconnect your thermostat and the blower, or handling unit, turns off then it’s a faulty thermostat but I don’t think that’s correct. When I removed my thermostat my blower kept running and would only stop when I opened the breaker for the furnace. He says in reason 5 that in this case it could be a faulty module. In order to completely rule out the thermostat, you should disconnect your thermostat and pull the breaker to get the blower to stop running. Close your circuit breaker and see if your blower comes on. If it does the problem is not your thermostat. If it doesn’t than the problem is your thermostat. I did this and narrowed the problem down to the thermostat, which I replaced, and the problem went away. It must have been internally shorted. Overall this video is very good. I couldn’t have figured this problem out without it. Thank you!
I tried this, I took the thermostat off, changed the batteries, they were heavily corroded, turned the AC breaker off, the blower turned off. Flipped the breaker back on and the blower came back on....
Thank you! You’re such a great teacher that provides great detail on how and why things work or don’t. I watched over 4 hours of video for my issue and by watching your video my case was the first problem you mentioned, a bad thermostat! Of the videos I watched no one mentioned it. I’m glad I didn’t order a new control panel at $230. I ran to hardware store this morning snd bought a $39 thermostat controller and we’re back in business. My visitors are now all warm and cozy! Thank you again Sir!
Just gonna put this out here it might help someone. Figured out none of this is the problem of my furnace but the nest thermostat I installed. So when you install a nest or smart thermostat and it has an airwave feature, by default it will be set to ON. Just turn it off and that should fix it. Good luck!
Ac service Tech LLC.: thanks for your videos, it helped me a lot. I followed the 5 causes your recommended , I could fix my problem (package unit) once again ,, thanks for sharing your knowledge...
Thanks took my SEQUENCER out and took the top cover off and it's fried ordered a new one from Amazon, I'll update after installing the new one. I replaced the fried SEQUENCER with the new one today's system is now fixed fan now turning off on schedule. Auto and fan on working normally. Thanks for all your help AC Service Tech LLC! 😀
@@HsingSun The blower fan would not turn off when the systems reached the desired temperature. The strange thing is that it happened with no warning and the only way to turn it off was to go up into the attic and pull the breaker.
Thank you for your post this info. Sometime ago, I wanted to replace the Sequencer, but it got stuck mechanically inside the air-handler. I will try one more time to take it out and order it now.
Thank god I found your video! I’m house sitting and it’s 3am and the fan on the unit keeps running So I took the circuit breaker out of the outside unit and it still ran! I can’t find the inside breaker box anywhere!🤷🏼♀️ so I pulled the thermostat off the wall and the fan finally stopped! UPDATE - It did fit !! yeah it was blower motor . replaced it and could tell it was working right away at the vents . It waa blowing weakly beflore so replaced capacitor at first but that wasn't it . Only $16 . Next suspected motor . Great that I fixed it . Century universal motor $74 plus needed bracket $30 YAY
Excellent video on troubleshooting why the air handler fan continues to run. My issue was the sequencer and didn't realize it. I had unplugged that connector since it also had wiring for the strip heater which I don't use so that's why I unplugged it. When I plugged the connector back in the board, the fan started working correctly. Self inflicted but lesson learned. Thanks for sharing your HVAC knowledge.
thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. my blower continues to cycle when the heat is turned off? i restrung all my heating elements last year but did not replace my limit switchs? :0 any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. my furnace is very old and i am on very fixed income. TYVM
In the last scenario where you disconnected the connector, and it keeps running the motor does this mean that the motor needs to be replaced, or are electronics in the motor tat can be fixed?
Nice video. Okay, suppose the blower is NOT blowing when it's supposed to? Twice, after overnight severe thunder storms here in Houston, the next morning the blowers on the AC units were not blowing. We have three 5-ton units. All three blowers ceased to function. Everything else in the shop works. Everything! Including the 5-ton units outside the building. They come on, and they push cold air into the housing cavity. ( You can easily feel the cold air when you remove the air filters) But.. the blowers do not come on and blow the cold air into the shop. This is the second time in 3-4 weeks that this has happened. After the first time, the AC crew replaced those blowers. This time, we can't get them to come back for service. We've been without AC for 7 weeks now. I do know that there are no surge protectors anywhere inside nor outside any of the three units. What would cause "all three" blowers to go out after a severe thunderstorm? Just seems so odd. Thanks! Hot and Sweaty By the way, those three AC units were installed 1 year ago almost to the date.
Don't forget to check where your leads are plugged in. Just got back from a call that had me stumped but whoever was there before me plugged the blower into the bottom of the contactor so it ran as long as there was power.
This is the best video out there to troubleshoot this symptom you guys are truly masters of your craft, thank you for helping me. I have the fan on instead of Auto.
An excellent video..My Trane 3.5 ton with ECM has intermittent "fan continues to run" problems....Suspecting one of the relays you described. Sticking contacts. Will follow your methods next time it malfunctions. Thanks for this great video and the tech information ! jP in Titusville Fl.
Thank you for posting really I learn lot from you and I'm going to add one more thing on your video happened with me today on package unit or rooftop loss belt keeps the blower fun running
I had to work on a smart thermostat and my problem was the c wire connected! The wires ran were 18/4 I had to run 18/5 and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps someone
The AC was working just fine. I left town for a few days and turned it off by turning off 2 breakers on the wall. Apparently, it was very hot, and the temperature inside was close to 100. When I turned the breaker ON, the blower did not turn on. What could possibly go bad from high temp? I checked the thermostat, compressor... OK. It is clearly with the blower. Looks like a control board inside does not have 24v. Like it lost power. Are there any heat breakers that could melt up? What about just short them - I do not use Em Heat anyway. Please advise.
Thanks so much for making this video. Was the green wire for me LOL I never knew it had such an important role in the air conditioning system. Boggled me for like 3 or 4 hours
what color wire goes to which terminal on a new goodman heat pump installation in the air handler? fan will not stop running when desired cool temp is reached in cooling mode. Thanks
Hi thank you for your video. The blower fan up stair which is not the one connected to the evaporator keeps running but slower than when the ac is on. What could be the problem. Thanks.
Very informative thank you so much we have had a HVAC man out here twice first he did maintenance but we have to turn the blower off by the circuit breaker because it does not shut off it keeps running but the temperature on the thermostat keeps getting hotter and hotter and hotter when we turn it off at the breaker and then flip it back on after it's set for a few minutes it will turn the air back on.
I wonder if my thermostat is bad! I will show this video to my husband when he is off his work call. My scenario: It is winter, the A/C system is turned OFF and the FAN is in the OFF position but air is coming out of the registers! The air conditioning unit outside is not actually running but the air coming through the registers is cold due to the outside air temp, I think. My baseboard heating system is on but is controlled by a separate thermostat in a different room.
We have a gas furnace. Blower is on and not stopping, but I don't feel air moving through the vents. I suspect a flap or something in the ductwork that's temperature controlled is still closed.....? It's 2am, I can't really call anyone. Can I turn off the breakers in the main panel and deal with it in the morning? I'm guessing the gas value would be either electrically or temperature controlled, such that I don't need to worry about leaking gas ......? I had to unplug the furnace, that breaker also controls the garage door, so I has to leave it on. Pilot light (s) are still on, hope they'll be ok. I will try to actually diagnose the issue in the morning. Your video makes it seem so simple, I really hope I can fix it!! Thank you for posting this troubleshooting information!
@zantiagotron07 We actually ended up calling an HVAC technician. It was some sensor, I'm sorry I don't remember what it was called. The repair was just under $400. Which is fairly inexpensive for heating cooling calls. Alot of $ to me, but worth it to have heat again in winter.
Excellent video.. What this video doesn't tell you was that the problem finds YOU sometimes.. My Blower circuit board relay contactors must have fused together, and that burned plastic smell was pretty obvious... Causing the blower to run continuously.. After a couple of days the relay literally burned up and scorched the circuit board. blower kept running Since the Rheem AHU was over 10 years old, the original circuit board was no longer available.. Had to hire an AC guy to rewire the replacement, which I HATE TO DO... Cost over $200 This year decided to start replacing the electricalsthat hadn't been replaced/failed yet.. AHU Blower transformer and capacitor.. Cost $20.. Why wait for failure? Then outside replaced the contactor and dual capacitor.. Another $20 Added a hard start kit.. $30
Is the outdoor fan on hvac unit supposed to always run while in heat mode? It never shuts off while I'm running heat mode. In AC mode the fan turns on and off
What if it only does it occasionally when there is a rapid outdoor temperature drop..or if it rains..or if it gets excessive humidity from the Florida swamp weather?..Mine functions perfectly UNTIL it goes from 90 degrees to 70 degrees outside..then my air handler won't shut off..even though the outside unit has shut off...So it just continues to blow hot air until you shut it off for a half hour
Need help. The red wire that comes from the sequencer and then goes back to the board fried that white 9 pin connector and that whole wire runs warm and is discolored I assume from the heat. I replaced the connector but it still runs constantly and also won't cool (no a\c). Any idea what might be causing that? Also I replaced the sequencer about a year ago or so when it just blew hot air constantly if that helps. Hope to hear from you. Thanks
My indoor fan keeps running but at like a half speed after it's suppose to shut off reaching temperature. I've pulled the tstat and it still continues to run at half speed. Any ideas?
hi, i have a 1991 bryant furnace/ac, fan continues to run after unit is satisfied, changed thermostat, limit switch, the relays r soldered right to the board. any help would be great. tnx, mike
Hmm so I sometimes get little to no voltage coming out of the control bord (very intermittent) everything else before the last step is good. Is this pretty much guaranteed to be the cuntrol board? They are expensive AF so it would be an expensive miss diagnoses
I had a bard unit that stayed running even after it got satisfied but it would delay shut off like your saying but only if you set the temp quite a bit higher than the setting.
I'm trying to trouble shoot this problem but it happens intermittently. I can't force it to happen. It happens like 1 time every 2 weeks. It seems to happen in the middle if the night so my wife forces me to get up and flip of and on the furnace. Is there a way to pinpoint this problem if it's intermittent? I'm guessing it's the fan relay or high limit switch malfunctioning. I'm confused because it goes into a regular state of working weeks at a time. Would you guess the problem is narrowed down to a 120v switch that is bonding a switch to stay live due to heat and overcurrent? As opposed to a thermostat or possible low power shorts from the thermostat?
I have a heat pump in a condo and my fan won't shut off when the temperature in the house reaches the set temperature. If I hit my inside unit a few times with the palm of my hand it shuts off. When the thermostat calls for heat or ac again the blower comes on but stays on again when the temperature is met. Is this a bad relay or something else in your opinion?
if i unplug the thermostat and it kills the blower is it for certian a bad thermostat or could it be the thermostat wires? there is no wire going to c in the thermostat box so i cant check from g to c for 24volts
Doing electrical work in a new building . It was uncomfortably warm or hot even for winter. The building Mgr. called HVAC tech. Tech replaced T-Stat. Next day same thing. Mgr calls different HVAC Company. Tech replaces T-Stat. (counting the original this is the third one) same problem. Finally a guy showed up who was not in a hurry. He pulled the T-Stat off the wall and just stood there shaking his head in disbelief, he called me over and said.. “ look at this “ someone had knocked a rectangular hole approximately 3”x2” to fish out of the wall a small 18/6 T-Stat cable. HVAC guy said..” put your hand against that hole and feel the cold air that was being forced into the back of these thermostats, no wonder it was calling for heat..” He was right, usually office walls are packed with insulation or there is enough to restrict most airflow but not in this instance. HVAC guy took duct seal, sheet rock putty and sealed hole up tight around 18/6 cable-problem solved.
Good explanation. I have short of not exact but similar issue. My AC unit keeps running even after set temp is reached at thermostat. For ex I set temp at 74 and system turns on and once it reached 74 it stays on for more than 25-30 min. However if I turned the set temp higher than actual temp than system turns off immediately. Also if I manually toggle the off button from thermostat it turns off. On average my unit runs for almost 1 hours even whenever I check the thermostat it’s at 74. What could be the issue?
First, awesome stuff! I brought an UVC light for the HVAC. Install from manufacture has it powered by 110 v AC all the time. Just doesn't seem efficient for a bulb that has a run life of 9k hours. Watched this video to see if I could tie it into the Blower Motor Fan. What are your thoughts?
What causes the contacts to stick? I just installed a White Rodgers control board and the blower will come on when the thermostat is completely off! The only way to stop it is either disconnect power to the control board or while it has power I can tap the board in the general area of the contacts and it will stop the motor! Please help me figure this puzzle out! Thank you in advance!
My blower motor wouldn't turn off, after my landlord had just done a whole new furnace install. I finally figured out that he had the blower moter on/off switch pressed to on when it didn't have to be! I turned it off, cranked the thermostat until the furnace started, then waited patiently to see if the blower motor would turn itself on...three mins went by and it did! Yay! I bet my electric bill goes back to normal again!
very informative; QUESTION; I HAVE A COLEMAN DGAT056BDF GAS FURNACE-I REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR NO CAPACITOR ON THIS MODEL; JUST THE POWER WIRE FROM THE MOTOR TO THE MOLEX PLUG-IN CONNECTOR; I ATTEMPTED TO START THE FURNACE WITH THE THERMOSTAT SET AT BELOW INTERIOR TEMPERATURE- THE FURNACE CAME ON AND PRODUCED HEAT; HOWEVER THE BLOWER MOTOR DID NOT CYCLE ON I HAVE A GREEN LIGHT IN THE CONTROL BOX AND THE FUSE IS GOOD?? When it is hotter out my attic AC fan will come on even though the thermostat is set to "off" and the fan is set to auto. It will go off only when it gets eventually gets cooler as sun sets. It will run with thermo pulled. So the attic temp seems to have an effect. Thoughts?
I had an interesting call once. Turns out install never jumped the Rh/Rc on the tstat. If I remember common was on Rc so when in cooling it would just run. In heat everything worked fine. That was on a honeywell T6 pro.
I have a Thermostat problem as you mentioned. It runs constantly. Even the Condenser Compressor is on the Rooftop. Worst location to place any A/C Unit. You can't reach it. Find a good way to get to it? My A/C Unit has to be raised. It feels like my Condenser Compressor is still running. Now how to fix this matter? Thank You!
Interesting. My AC fan upstairs has been stuck in on position for a whole day. Tried a few things but it keeps staying on. Think il just call up the home warranty and have them service it. It's cool to see bow these systems work though
What could it be if it shuts off like it should when I am running the AC but it won't when I run the heat? My brother is having this issue right now with his.
First of all, thank you for the informative video! My fan blower wouldn't turn off even after I disconnected the fan wire from my thermostat. It stayed on from about 1am to 7am and finally turned off. This has happened like this twice now. I believe it's either cb or the relay. Unit is a single stage heat pump. Presently, the unit is working as it should but I know there's a problem. Will I be able to accurately troubleshoot with my multimeter if it's not currently malfunctioning? Has anyone encountered this before?
I have the fan running when I put thermostadt on heat or em heat. Tomorrow I will bring my meter to test ohms and voltage. My fan relay appears to be soldered into the board. If it turns out to be the relay stuck closed can a generic relay be used between the thermostadt and existing relay. Board is obsolete. Amana bba36a2a air handler. Heat only being used. Pulled the old ac unit out r22.
I have a RunTru23 split systen HVAC unit. When it is in cool mode, the blower fan runs continuously even when cooling is not called for. This is causing serious humidity swings which do not occur when it is in heat mode as the blower fan only runs when heating is called for. Can an external thermostat help me with this?
I have issue with the Carrier furnace blower that keeps turn on/off very 20 seconds or so when it was called for heating from the controller. Searching around, there are few comment about the limit switch went bad. so, I have replaced the limited switches but the problem is till there. Is this mean the blower motor is bad or the CAP ? Please give me some feedback before I called the HVac service and cost me arm & leg for this. Thanks in advance
That is all great information, but what about a blower that is running but running very slowly? There are no shorts in the motor and it runs fine when I turn the fan switch to ON,but in the Auto position it runs very slowly, which would typically be a shorted winding in the motor along with a main contactor that opens only one side of the line. Since the motor is not shorted to ground and is NOT an ECM motor why would it be turning slowly??
Hi! I have 9 Haier air handlers with control boards that do not have fuses. Some of these control boards keep blowing out from power outages. I want to add an inline fuse to these control boards. Can you tell me which wire l should add the fuse to in order to prevent the control board from going bad and having to replace it. Thank you
My Ruud heat pump outside condenser fan will not shut off. The contractor maybe wired incorrectly with the fan wire going to the contactor that is bridged. Help!
I just had a ridiculous intermittent short from R. To y at the defrost control board, it threw me through a loop the blower would run all the time and the contactor would chatter
Good video, nice details! Have a question, I have a Tappan 92.1 H.E. gas furnace, the thermostat went blank with good batteries in it, and new batteries, battery terminal had some bad corrosion on it, cleaned it up with vinigar.. then it came on, went off.. bought new replacement similiar model, and it did turn on cycle ignitor, and both fans ignited, Just before that I had a blocked n cracked j-tube, cleaned it, trimed and reinstalled. Also the power relay had a burnt Hole in it.. arouand where the two parts connect I believe. I was going to order another board, but will take some time to receive. Am I able to use the furnace for heat safely at night, or before going to bed and shut it down...?? I know the blower fan has two speeds to it ... low and high.. have not checked, but the high kicks on I believe..(definitely not the low speed. 10-15 minutes ran it, from the new thermostat installed. Also jumped it from the board with no thermostat before buying new one. Old one came on, then off after 5 or so minutes. Everything seems to cycle on, and off when shut down. Will check if it shuts down when it reaches optimum temp. (think it did but forgot) Part number T9AV1D12-22 Power Relay. that is damaged on from, smoke residue around front rear of board not burnt . Appreciate adice on being able to run the furnace temporarily/ sparingly while a new control board comes. Eric, MN
My all electric older EB15 unit stays on (both heat and blower) once it get a heat call from thermastat. The HVAC companies have diag it and were unable to determine the issue. Thermastat good, Thermastat wire good, Sequencers checked, replaced twice and good. Somehow its heat related becaise with all covers off, it works as it should. Put the covers back on and it fails to shut off.
Is there a high temp sensor that keeps the fan running after the heat turns off? If so if that sensor thinks the box is still hot would that not keep the fan running. I have not opened mine up yet but did disconnect the thermostat wires last night before unplugging the unit when the fan continued to run.
Blower motor continues to run and coils freeze after thermostat shuts off. But yesterday I noticed the condenser unit outside was still running even after I turned thermostat off. I powered off both at breaker box. It happens randomly so it's hard to get a tech here at the time. Any advice?
My blower motor stays on. But My thermostat is a vintage one that uses mercury. Would it have the same or similar problems, and could it even actually be the thermostat itself causing the issue?
My blower motor started failing on me. Only way I could get it to work at times is when I kill the power and power it back on. Once it reaches the set temperature and goes on after the temperature drops, the blower don't kick back on the 2nd time around. What do you think it could be?

In order to completely rule out the thermostat, you should disconnect your thermostat and pull the breaker to get the blower to stop running. Close your circuit breaker and see if your blower comes on. If it does the problem is not your thermostat. If it doesn’t than the problem is your thermostat.
I did this and narrowed the problem down to the thermostat, which I replaced, and the problem went away. It must have been internally shorted.
Overall this video is very good. I couldn’t have figured this problem out without it. Thank you!
I’ve installed new units and have had the red and green from thermostat wire shorted and kept blower running even after pulling tstat
I had a bad transformer.
ty very much!
How would a bad 24V Transformer keep the blower fan constantly on and not turning off ?
I tried this, I took the thermostat off, changed the batteries, they were heavily corroded, turned the AC breaker off, the blower turned off. Flipped the breaker back on and the blower came back on....
Excellent video! As a teacher of electrical engineering, if I were a student, this the type of lesson I would to receive!
This was too hard for me to understand. But you answered my query should my blower run all the time. So I will call my guy. Thanks.
Good luck!
thank you so much for your comment, this fixed my issue too
Hi there, I am having the same problem I just installed new Smart Honeywell thermostat and fan stays on . Please advise, what should I do.
Thanks
Going to check my nest
Replace Nest with a Honeywell 👍

Nice work!
@DangeRuss, What was the problem before you replaced the Sequencer?
@@HsingSun The blower fan would not turn off when the systems reached the desired temperature. The strange thing is that it happened with no warning and the only way to turn it off was to go up into the attic and pull the breaker.
Thank you for your post this info. Sometime ago, I wanted to replace the Sequencer, but it got stuck mechanically inside the air-handler. I will try one more time to take it out and order it now.
This was very useful, the only bad thing is, i dont think i wanna mess with any of it but at least when the tech comes ik whats going on. Thanks!
Thanks for this video, zeroed in on the contactor/sequencer being the issue, replaced for 20$. I have hvac system working properly now.
Was so afraid to go to sleep Incase the fan burned up and caught something on fire! Thank you for your videos! Now off to sleep! 🤦♀️
Wow, if only every diy youtube video was this good. hats off to you!
One of the greatest resources for techs new in the trade.
Especially on long drives
Incredibly sharp and detailed with great examples. The Best! Thanks so much!!!
thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. my blower continues to cycle when the heat is turned off? i restrung all my heating elements last year but did not replace my limit switchs? :0 any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. my furnace is very old and i am on very fixed income. TYVM
In the last scenario where you disconnected the connector, and it keeps running the motor
does this mean that the motor needs to be replaced, or are electronics in the motor tat can be fixed?
Awesome video. I disconnected my thermostat and put new batteries in. It seems to work fine now.
Well, that was last year. Now its running all the time again. Time to call the experts.
@@ast-og-losta so what was the problem mine wont shut off on heat once it reaches temp setting either
Thanks!
Hot and Sweaty
By the way, those three AC units were installed 1 year ago almost to the date.
Don't forget to check where your leads are plugged in. Just got back from a call that had me stumped but whoever was there before me plugged the blower into the bottom of the contactor so it ran as long as there was power.
This was great. I think the ECM Motor controller may be the culprit. I wonder if just an ecm controller can be obtained?
Is that Black wire in the. Photo outside the Case a Ground Wire for the Thermostat?
I have same problem with Carrier blower. Stays on, diagnosed it’s the ECM. Is there a way to change the component within the ECM to repair it
Thanks for this amazing video! What about if the humidity doesn't go away? What could be causing that?
Thank you for being so precise and sharing your expertise!
This is the best video out there to troubleshoot this symptom you guys are truly masters of your craft, thank you for helping me. I have the fan on instead of Auto.
Thanks a lot Brayardo!

Thank you for posting really I learn lot from you and I'm going to add one more thing on your video happened with me today on package unit or rooftop loss belt keeps the blower fun running
Hey Craig, can you make some live service call videos showing your steps of troubleshooting? 😁
I had to work on a smart thermostat and my problem was the c wire connected! The wires ran were 18/4 I had to run 18/5 and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps someone
Great explanations, thanks for sharing your knowledge and time, blessings to you and your family!
? Is that element wired correctly? Thanks for all you share.
Hi great video.. Do you have a video trouble shooting a fan that won't power on?
Thanks
What do you do if you have turned off the fan outside but the thermostat still shows cooling and the interior temperature gets hotter and hotter?
Hi thank you for your video. The blower fan up stair which is not the one connected to the evaporator keeps running but slower than when the ac is on. What could be the problem. Thanks.
hey your talking about your out door fan condenser?
Very informative thank you so much we have had a HVAC man out here twice first he did maintenance but we have to turn the blower off by the circuit breaker because it does not shut off it keeps running but the temperature on the thermostat keeps getting hotter and hotter and hotter when we turn it off at the breaker and then flip it back on after it's set for a few minutes it will turn the air back on.
Sounds like a bad high limit switch
I'd check the sequencer and check the limit control switch.
@@jaywalton9552is the sequencer the same as contactor in outside unit
Thanks for your videos
Do you have any videos on Lennox Inverter units or any other venders
Can you tell me how you fixed this?
@zantiagotron07 We actually ended up calling an HVAC technician. It was some sensor, I'm sorry I don't remember what it was called. The repair was just under $400. Which is fairly inexpensive for heating cooling calls. Alot of $ to me, but worth it to have heat again in winter.
Excellent video.. What this video doesn't tell you was that the problem finds YOU sometimes.. My Blower circuit board relay contactors must have fused together, and that burned plastic smell was pretty obvious... Causing the blower to run continuously.. After a couple of days the relay literally burned up and scorched the circuit board. blower kept running
Since the Rheem AHU was over 10 years old, the original circuit board was no longer available.. Had to hire an AC guy to rewire the replacement, which I HATE TO DO... Cost over $200
This year decided to start replacing the electricalsthat hadn't been replaced/failed yet.. AHU Blower transformer and capacitor.. Cost $20.. Why wait for failure?
Then outside replaced the contactor and dual capacitor.. Another $20
Added a hard start kit.. $30
Big brother we just had a storm with power surge and now my blower motor runs all the time where should I start
Is the outdoor fan on hvac unit supposed to always run while in heat mode? It never shuts off while I'm running heat mode. In AC mode the fan turns on and off
another very informative video, the best HVAC channel!
Which I'm not sure what kind of motor it is but I guess if it has a delay before cutting off it is ECM???
As opposed to a thermostat or possible low power shorts from the thermostat?
does reason number 4 apply in cool mode?
Would you do a video on Rheem heat pump 2 ton condenser fan doesn't turn off and how to fix it.
Hi Craig, what part of town do you live? I'd like to enroll in your classes, have feeling you would be a great teacher.
Excellent instruction. Now I can know if the repair man's diagnosis makes sense!

very informative; QUESTION; I HAVE A COLEMAN DGAT056BDF GAS FURNACE-I REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR NO CAPACITOR ON THIS MODEL; JUST THE POWER WIRE FROM THE MOTOR TO THE MOLEX PLUG-IN CONNECTOR; I ATTEMPTED TO START THE FURNACE WITH THE THERMOSTAT SET AT BELOW INTERIOR TEMPERATURE- THE FURNACE CAME ON AND PRODUCED HEAT; HOWEVER THE BLOWER MOTOR DID NOT CYCLE ON I HAVE A GREEN LIGHT IN THE CONTROL BOX AND THE FUSE IS GOOD?? IT GOT HOT INSIDE THE AIR HANDLER SO I SHUT IT DOWN; ANY IDEAS OR FEEDBACK MUCH APPRECIATED; THANK YOU, PATRICK.P
When it is hotter out my attic AC fan will come on even though the thermostat is set to "off" and the fan is set to auto. It will go off only when it gets eventually gets cooler as sun sets. It will run with thermo pulled. So the attic temp seems to have an effect. Thoughts?
Thank you! I am now a subscriber!
Can you tell me will this issue cause my electric bill to increase ? it’s going to be a couple of days before I can get someone to come look at mine.
My
A/C Unit has to be raised.
Can an external thermostat help me with this?
thank you for sharing knowledge sir

I have issue with the Carrier furnace blower that keeps turn on/off very 20 seconds or so when it was called for heating from the controller. Searching around, there are few comment about the limit switch went bad. so, I have replaced the limited switches but the problem is till there. Is this mean the blower motor is bad or the CAP ? Please give me some feedback before I called the HVac service and cost me arm & leg for this. Thanks in advance
Mine was problem one, do we just replace thermostat?
That is all great information, but what about a blower that is running but running very slowly? There are no shorts in the motor and it runs fine when I turn the fan switch to ON,but in the Auto position it runs very slowly, which would typically be a shorted winding in the motor along with a main contactor that opens only one side of the line. Since the motor is not shorted to ground and is NOT an ECM motor why would it be turning slowly??
Hi! I have 9 Haier air handlers with control boards that do not have fuses. Some of these control boards keep blowing out from power outages. I want to add an inline fuse to these control boards. My Ruud heat pump outside condenser fan will not shut off. The contractor maybe wired incorrectly with the fan wire going to the contactor that is bridged. Help!
Very good Instruction...concise and to the point..
I just had a ridiculous intermittent short from R. To y at the defrost control board, it threw me through a loop the blower would run all the time and the contactor would chatter
Hi my problem is opposite. Blower motor comes on goes right back off. Any insight would be so helpful.

(think it did but forgot)
Part number T9AV1D12-22 Power Relay. that is damaged on from, smoke residue around front rear of board not burnt .
Appreciate adice on being able to run the furnace temporarily/ sparingly while a new control board comes.

For sharing your knowledge….
Craig didn't mention how to know that the blower relay contacts are welded closed. Is there a way to test?
With power disconnected and the wires off the two terminals, the two terminals should not have continuity between them.
My blower motor started failing on me.
Only way I could get it to work at times is when I kill the power and power it back on. Once it reaches the set temperature and goes on after the temperature drops, the blower don't kick back on the 2nd time around.
What do you think it could be?
